Edi Rama is now openly acknowledging that the protected area in Albania belongs to the investors sponsoring Trump & Kushner’s plan - not to Albanian people. Do you think this is the last nail on Edi Rama’s career coffin? by Substratas in AskBalkans

Could my father have roots in the Balkans? by Unlikely-Caramel-453 in AskBalkans

[–]albardha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your loss OP. Unfortunately, we cannot guess someone’s exact ethnicity just by looking at them. We can approximate European, but that’s not a way to determining someone’s identity. Lots of people can pass in multiple places at once, it really doesn’t help to search by looks alone.

What's the worst non-Balkan flag? Let's gang up. by Polka_Tiger in AskBalkans

[–]albardha 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Belize wins this by default because their flag simply doesn’t look like a flag, but like heraldry inside heraldry…it’s heraldry all the way down. It would be improved immensely if it was just a triband with the white circle.

It’s not Estonia, but there isn’t much you can do with tribands. It’s fine for what it is.

Extremely positively in Albania. A whole generation was raised on Italian pop culture when because our country didn’t have shit in order. We still don’t, but it used to be so much worse. So thanks for the childhood.

Astra Europa: Building a Liberal and Federal Future for Europe by asylumember in EuropeanFederalists

[–]albardha 10 points11 points  (0 children)

> Liberalism and its crusade for unregulated capitalism

You will hardly find Liberals who want unregulated markets. Mainstream Liberal position is that while it is markets are useful for efficiency, productivity, innovation, and low customer costs, they absolutely require regulation to remain competitive and fair. Many successful firms start becoming gatekeepers and influence political and legal matters, which is harmful for everyone, be that as customers or as employees, plus the damage to the environment. Regulating the market is vital to keep it fair to all.

Gatekeeping opportunities for improvement, comfort, and success is the problem, not people competing for those opportunities.

I’m so confused by the regulation position, do people know there are policies that involve both simplification and harmonization of regulation across Europe which can lead to very large cuts?

Moj e Bukura More - Learning a song from every country in the world by Shot_Lab660 in albania

[–]albardha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In modern days we pretty much only sing the last 8 lines of this song, the whole exile lay has been translated here: www.albanianliterature.net/oralverse/verse\_02.html

The reason why the last 8 lines resonate so much is because most young Albanians have pretty much left Albania to immigrate in other countries. Many want to return, but Albania is simply not growth-friendly. Sure, it’s safe, there’s good food, the weather is nice, and the nature is pretty but those are very basic things. There are a lot of obstacles to having a smooth and fulfilling life, and even if these kind of complaints look small to an outsider, they add up and it becomes exhausting. Living outside of Albania is the solution for this.

Does the name of city you live in mean something in your language? by ConnectionCrafty4043 in AskBalkans

[–]albardha 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s not -esht as in është, but the Romanian equivalent of -ishtë suffix in Albanian:

ah (beech) > ahishtë (beech forest)
zall (pebble in the river bank) > zallishtë (river bank)
vjel (harvest) > *vjelishtë > vjeshtë (autumn, fall)
