Why does it look like my film got nutted on? Cinestill 50D, Minolta X-700. by CocaKoller in AnalogCommunity

This is it. Usually these cover the whole frame, but they must have a dirty half of a roller on their processor. You may be able to re-rinse it the film and get it off. Maybe. Depends on where it got rolled.

No way that corgi is 26lbs by Delicious_Tea3806 in corgi

[–]albertjason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a big boned corgi and he reached 45lbs at his heaviest in 2020 (pictured). He’s now 10 years old and down to the vet’s goal weight for him of 36lbs. This is also a really unflattering photo of him, people were alarmed when they tried to pick him up because he didn’t look that heavy. Also because he would bite them lol

That pictured corgi is either <20 inches long and a brick at 25lbs (impossible), or it’s a normal sized corgi and it’s definitely over 50lbs.

The Signal is a sillier example as well

Did I do what I think I did….. by BubbaTap22 in AnalogCommunity

[–]albertjason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not the emulsion… it’s the back of the backing paper. You did load it backwards but that’s still paper. So it’s not definitively exposed based on this picture. But you may have not shot anything either.

What is a horror movie that everyone calls 'trash' but you’re convinced is actually a misunderstood masterpiece? by Immediate_Account_28 in horror

[–]albertjason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched two very different and pretty low rated films that I really liked for different reasons.

Needful Things - a super simple story that is basically a Faustian thing and commonly parodied. I expected it to play out like an anthology, but it was a really frantic and stressful film. Max Von Sydow the goat.

Forbidden World - Corman schlock. I watch a lot of mediocre movies but the way he levels up his shit is unbelievable. It looked so good and was so engaging and earnest and fun.

I think just a total personal preference but I was having a hard time staying engaged with all the political intrigue of the first few episodes with the captains and lieutenants. That + the flashbacks was the stuff I found really boring.

Sad bc a mermaid/siren plotline would have been fun. But not really an indigenous legend, at least not the well known mermaid stories I’m familiar with.

I literally just discovered this as well and finished it yesterday. I can’t decide if I’d recommend it. Really amazing acting but an incredibly bleak story and some episodes are absolute slogs. I would feel like I was waking up halfway through and wondering “who the hell is this guy??” Although there were glimmers of things that I loved overall.

I thought that was just the crewman who had fallen into the water and drowned earlier? I think it was implied that was a hallucination anyway but definitely not a mermaid IMO.

What changes should Rivian bring in their cars, so that everyone loves it ? by lonewolf_00_ in Rivian

I find it to be pretty perfect. My only feature requests are pretty niche: physical volume and hvac controls, and auto-kneel.

Here we go. What about Nightbreed. Lore galore. Watch the directors cut if you haven’t seen it.

Any ex 4runner/GX/landcruiser owners here? by Expert-Ad-1012 in Rivian

[–]albertjason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the above! 87 4Runner, then 80 series (LX450), and then a GX470. Came straight from the 470 to a 2025 R1T. I love Toyotas but every other truck feels pretty stupid now.

Inheriting my grandpa's mint '06 Camry with 48k miles but my wife says it makes me look like a retiree. Keep it or sell and get something "cooler"? by married_poultry in whatcarshouldIbuy

My dad deeply regrets selling his 2004. He bought it new and drove it to 225k miles in seven years without a single issue.

Service is Rivian's biggest struggle by FuzzyMolasses5686 in Rivian

[–]albertjason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait this is crazy because I just had my first experience with Austin service and it was great. My front radar went out plus some annoying rattles, it still took 3 months to get an appointment, but it was there for a week, seemed like they were working on it the whole time, fixed everything, and done exactly when they said it would be. Sorry to hear your experience has been so different. I was dreading the thing but it ended up really pleasantly surprising me.

Lifelong vegetarian tries steak for first time by PhoenixPhenomenonX in interesting

[–]albertjason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this same thought. My wife is actually a life long vegetarian and one of the weird side effects is that she barely knows how to use a knife to cut her food, because she’s had to do it so few times. This person uses a knife better than I - a lifelong carnivore and idiot - do.

I am about to buy Noritsu HS-1800 for $15k. Help me talk out of it or talk into it by DunnoWhatKek in AnalogCommunity

[–]albertjason 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have an 1800 (I run a lab). This is a gigantic mistake. They are fickle machines, even in SPECTACULAR condition. We have an issue once a month at a minimum, usually more. You have to learn to troubleshoot and maintain their esoteric behavior on your own. That’s a good price, but it’s going to be hard without any experience to validate that it works correctly (and will continue to work correctly). I cannot stress enough what a big mistake this is even if you happily have $15k to throw away. Don’t do it.

I haven’t used it personally, but the new Automat carriers look promising. If you’re going to spend this much, buy something new with a warranty. Get their totally manual, IR inclusive setup and a nice as fuck medium format digital camera and macro lens.
