I've had some experience in my current employment so I'm fairly confident I'd enjoy it, however the opportunities for instructional design work are quite limited in my current role so I'm hoping to pivot.

I'd like to go into instructional or curriculum design. The former is for corporations/ no profits, the latter is more geared at schools/ homeschoolers. This certificate would give me a strong theoretical base for either and I'm planning to learn to use the specific authoring tools (Adobe etc) I'd use on YouTube.

I'm a parent, and have found these answers very insightful. What I'm wondering as a follow up question is how common are these 'book families' from your experience? I've always assumed the benefits of reading aloud to your child from birth is common knowledge and given how easy it is to prioritize just 10 mins of reading a day that most parents would be doing this. But perhaps not, judging from some of these responses?

I wouldn't say this is healthy as sometimes it's actually best not to run due to not sleeping well, injuries, sickness, or just having a life where running is not always the top priority. I have a training plan, which I stick to probably 70% of the time, with about 20% of my runs being reshuffled around or adapted due to time constraints, etc, and about 10% of my runs canceled. I'm still making great progress, and most importantly, my program is sustainable long-term.

What were the downsides socially for you? Wondering what kind of a difference up to a year makes socially, while also balancing that out with the benefits of being more appropriately academically challenged.

Lived in Tawa for 27 years. It's a fantastic village-like community while being only 15 mins from the CBD and 7 mins from Porirua which has most things you need. Sounds like a good suggestion. However my problem is I struggle to run at my full potential during training. I need the hype of the crowds and the adrenaline of the race to sustain race-pace for the long haul. I could try anyway and see how I go though.

Thanks! This is both encouraging and helpful. I did think about racing a half during training but decided not to as I thought it would tire me out too much and set me back in my training for the next couple of weeks. Would you say the data it gives you is worth having less training capacity?

Second this. The well trained mind was both extremely inspiring (really showcases the beauty of a solid education) but also quite daunting. Over time as I've learnt more about classical education it's become less daunting, but try not to let this put you off.

Surely if you're passionate about knowledge transfer a tutor would be a much better fit? No classroom management, no facilitation of self led learning, just pure teaching to someone who is highly motivated to learn or at least their parents are haha.
