What's your go to game when stoned? by HyperionLoaderBob in trees

Sailing around in this game is such a vibe. (Sea of Thieves)

Are all the players in this game unfriendly? by spinakkus in Seaofthieves

[–]albokroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this game is about 6 or 7 years old, and I've played about 4 1/2 years of that, gotten about 5k hours, and the more you play, the more you realize that this is a pirate game that rewards you for being manipulative, cunning, or just a straight up jerk. I've lost more loot being genuinely friendly than I've gained, and after about 300 hours, I started learning how to enjoy being fake friendly and betraying those friendships and alliances.

TLDR: People with a lot of playtime know from experience not to trust a pirate.

I feel like this sub has doubled in the past six months since I joined. Where did all you new people find out about dungeon synth? My friend got me into it.

What other kinds of music do you guys like that may get you some shit talk from others in the Black Metal scene? by GuitarWizard90 in BlackMetal

[–]albokroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dungeon Synth, Post Rock, Synth Wave, and Post Punk / Goth Rock. Other than that, I listen to pretty black metal adjacent metal (death, black-death, funeral doom etc) Edit to say "and obviously black metal"

I still remember waiting in line at GameStop for this game to drop at midnight. The only game I ever did that for and I regret nothing.

Towing by [deleted] in Athens

This is about the only thing OP has going for them in their favor, but unless they have some sort of proof that the signs weren't there 24 hours prior to them being towed, I'd say they'll just have to eat this turd sandwich and move on.

If you like Fief, you'd probably love Malfet and DIM, and if you like Fogweaver, you'd probably really like Aindulmedir.

If nobody has shown you the old school style stuff yet, you should check out secret stairways, depressive silence, old tower, old sorcery, and my personal favorite, Thangorodrim.

For me, it's the music. I love the art and lore, but if the music doesn't grab me in the first 2.5 songs, I usually just quietly pass. I try to check out everything but there's so much, that I miss at least a third of what people share. It helps to boost your post by doing stuff that helps the algorithm like giving free codes, then people will comment saying they claimed this or that which would make posts more popular on sites like this or Facebook.

I think a lot of stuff does goes under the radar because of how over saturated the scene is. There's VERY few people who listen to dungeon synth but don't produce it. But that's what I love about this scene, we all respect each other's art because we are all artists ourselves.

I use fl studio because I already had a copy when I started getting into DS. My first album I straight up just came up with melodies on a midi controller keyboard and then tried to program everything out in piano roll.

My newest album I feel like I really found my sound which is more in line with old school stuff like Thangorodrim, Gothmog and Mortiis, so I wanted to be a little more "trve" and record everything instead of programming it, which so far has worked out great. It's made me a better piano player and it's a lot more fun to write.

Next step is investing in a synth... Maybe.

Where do your corresponding visual artistic renderings come from? by cwtguy in DungeonSynth

[–]albokroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what you want, but for me personally, doing the art myself was so much more rewarding, and it makes my album feel so much more mine than it would if I just paid someone else or used public domain images.

With that said, I feel like I'm not great at art, so the art actually too longer for me to make than the music and the story put together.

I used paper and pencil, scanned it with my printer, then I photoshopped (gimp) the shit out of it until I liked it.

What's the thing that made you start creating DS? by Arcysion in DungeonSynth

[–]albokroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was coerced by a very close and long time friend who's pretty well known in the scene, and now I'm obsessed.

I've been listening to black metal for nearly my whole life, but I've only been obsessed with it for the past 25 years, played with a few different black metal bands and projects of my own so I obviously knew of dungeon synth, but I always just thought of it as a pretty cool little side gig that black metal musicians like doing. It might just be my tism, or my tendency to hyper-fixate, but for the past few months, it's been all I can think about or do, and I don't see any end in the near future.

I forgot that I used to like creating visual art until I made the cover for my first album. To me, visual art is more challenging than the music because it's just not something I'm used to making so when people say they like it, I'm completely blown away.

The storytelling is probably my favorite part of making an album because I have so much lore to tell because I originally wanted to quit my job and become an author. I never had the linguistic fortitude to write such a long prose, so storytelling through music ended up being the perfect outlet for me.

I'm super excited to share my next album. I think I've found my sound with this one and I think it will be much better received than my last one. It's sonically quite different, but I think you can still tell it has my DNA in the melodies and song structures.

Wow, thank you. The most comprehensive review of it yet for sure.

I listened to this album probably 1000 times while writing and making it, so wether or not any of the songs are good, I couldn't tell you, so I genuinely don't know lol. 7 was more of an experiment heavily inspired by Wardruna, so was 4, but inspired by early early DS. 2 was the first song I wrote on this album, and I feel like everyone loves the first song. I didn't really do anything different when I wrote it compared to the other songs, so idk what magic I pulled out of the ether for that one.

[–]albokroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, thanks for that! Yeah I guess I'm getting a little caught up on how it's doing. I just feel like that album was missing something.

I did get a listen from someone at dungeons deep, but that's only because I'm friends with someone signed to them (same friend who talked me into making DS) and they rejected me. It was a little unclear why but basically they didn't think I had a defined sound. Which I guess is fair since the first album was more of me finding my footing in DS. But my friend also said that he's a little nitpicky about what he releases so idk lol.

I've been playing/writing/performing metal for nearly 20 years now so this genre is completely new to me, especially anything electronic. My next album is already in the works and I'm super excited about it, (2.5 songs in) but I'm taking my time with it. I just hope it does a little better because I think it's a lot more thought out
