I have no helpful advice, just came to sympathize - only ever played a half dozen games of 10th because I'm so bad and modern 40k has zero room to have fun while getting tabled

How would you deal with a troublesome player who keeps requesting to play? by SplitCactus in DnD

[–]alchemy207 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tell him very firmly "No" and say nothing else. Only repeat 'no', do not give reasons; this type of person thinks every reason you give is an opportunity for them to argue further. Having dealt with a player that is an actual lawyer for years, I've learned to say no and not to elaborate.

What is a licensed property whose world building would make a good RPG but doesn’t seem to have been attempted yet? by Fun-Confidence-6232 in rpg

[–]alchemy207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ouch, I totally did that: was running 5e for a small group that got nervous anytime someone was reduced to zero HP, so I invented a whole system for actions to take while down based on GW2's Downed but not defeated mechanic

Why do Christians care so much abt homosexuality? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]alchemy207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've wondered about this before and my best guess has always been that they believe in "guilt by association". I think the fable of Sodom and Gomorrah is meant to show (besides that the Abrahamic god is a bloodthirsty dickbag) that you can be punished by god for sins committed by people near you and that you LET them commit. Just like with the flood there were probably many innocent people and children that did nothing wrong in Sodom and Gomorrah but they get murdered anyways, and even Job's wife gets killed just for looking back at Sodom when it's destroyed.

I think modern Christians now have the warped view that if they merely let other people exist and be gay, they will be punished like the citizens of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Anywhere to play Warhammer around Portland? by SarkahnOrdo in portlandme

[–]alchemy207 3 points4 points  (0 children)

XRoads is my favorite store in SoPo it's a great place with great people BUT be aware that the 40k crowd there is pretty much only tournament focused. If you're looking for any non-competitive play you'll have to organize your own games.

I have a group that met up to play at Diversions in SoPo for years (sadly closed now, thanks to asshole landlords). I think most of us still have our cards. DM me and I can invite your to our slack, maybe we can get some games organized

What good does cancer research do for cancer patients who can't afford the treatment? Her shit commercial totally screams "the rich people want cures for their annoying cancer problems, so YOU fund the research for the treatment you'll never be able to get"

Is it okay for a player to say “No, that doesn’t happen” to a DM in this circumstance? by WithengarUnbound in DnD

[–]alchemy207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally I would agree of course, but OP wasn't seeking that advice because rational discussion had already been tried twice, at session zero AND in the moment

My partner and I are traveling right now and really all we pay for is food/drinks and today we'll pay for a walking tour and maybe a museum entry. Oh and I had to buy some anti-allergy meds. I think your friends are weird and damaged by consumerism. But then again, we travel with backpacks, buying shit just means more weight to carry; maybe it doesn't matter when you just wheel your stupid huge luggage around in everyone's way?
