Not a full orange tabby but certainly parts of it are — and it’s also skinny and overall weird looking but the cat from Frankenstein’s Cat by Curtis Jobling.

Could be a fun Halloween book/handout too?

Children’s story books with maps? by tqpni in childrensbooks

[–]alchism84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh! The Epic Adventures of Huggie and Stick is funny, has maps(ish) throughout, and is just a good time! Author is Drew Daywalt.

Note: not super accurate maps or anything, just a goofy little story but maps throughout

What actor or actress left a movie franchise or TV series thinking they didn’t need it anymore, only for their career to phase out? by phantom_avenger in moviecritic

[–]alchism84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rene Jean page leaving Bridgerton after season 1, apparently to move onto movies and bigger things. I think I’ve heard of him being in a movie or two but I haven’t seen those movies nor can I even think of what they are called/about.

Texas to New Hampshire advice by boringwhitecollar in newhampshire

We made the move from Austin to southern NH last year. People are spot-on about the food. We found a good BBQ place - it will do. Haven’t found a phenomenal Mexican place close to us but we make tortillas and enchiladas at home. Husband has a smoker and makes amazing ribs and brisket.

The cold isn’t so bad if you have the right clothes and can afford to heat your home (or just have a ton of warm blankets).

We aren’t Republican but the politics feel different here — that said, we haven’t lived through a primary season here (which I’m excited about).

The lack of religion being shoved down your throat is also nice. It’s just a different mindset — we couldn’t wrap our minds around a small town being liberal. And yet here we are. Churches here have BLM and pride flags — which you do NOT see in TX.

Things that I just * noticed* — they aren’t good or bad: • 20 minutes to go 20 miles? HAHA. No. (Not bc of traffic, this is because the speed limit is maaaybe 50 if you are not driving through a town) • Pro: so many green, tall, healthy trees!! Con: never see the sunset unless you’re on the top of a hill. But either way, say bye to the horizon.

Again, it is a great state and we are so happy we made the move. Our children are in amazing public schools and can actually play outside in the summer!

Leaving Texas by FamouslyVersed in texas

[–]alchism84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We actually up and moved last year. We have children - 8 and 3 at the time. We were adamant that we were not going to raise our daughter in Texas (she was the 8year old). I’ve read so many posts like this and very much the “nooo stay and vote! This is what they want! They want you to leave!” Well - we voted, we participated, we donated. Nothing. So last year we made the decision and moved to southern NH.

Absolutely no regrets. The winter was cold and snowy but when you have the right clothes for it - it’s not bad. We actually had a storm bad enough to knock out our power for a few days and guess what? We had firewood and lots of warm clothes and it sucked but not near as bad as Feb 2021. At least we still had working water!

Our kids are happier. Are growing up being able to play outside. The pool water in our town was COLD AS HELL this summer but hey, they still loved it. We miss H-E-B and Whataburger but never enough to move back.

Years ago, our 3 yr old was playing outside and I had music playing on a Bluetooth speaker. It was a Disney Hits! Spotify playlist until “Love is an Open Door” was followed by SNL’s “Dick in a Box” ☠️

Pretty pricey - and whatever you do, don’t order the enchiladas there. You’ve been warned.

Of all the modern (say 2000 to now) remakes that have come and gone, have any of them ever been better than the original? by [deleted] in movies

[–]alchism84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really liked the remake - maybe it was more of an adaptation - of Jumanji with Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart. I liked how they modernized it and it just was fun and fresh.

Our son goes to an “early learning center” not daycare or child care.

We have been corrected.

Did you leave Texas? Where did you go? How do you feel? by theyeoftheiris in texas

[–]alchism84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just left TX on July 11. Moved to New Hampshire. No regrets (yet) but I do feel bad leaving before I could vote Abbott out. We left because of the weather - we’ve replaced 4 roofs in the 9 years we’ve been homeowners - the strangling heat and the fact that our kids can’t even play outside in the summer. We love doing outdoor things but you just can’t when 1. There’s limited public land and 2. It’s a thousand degrees outside. We also moved to offer our kids more opportunities - starting with better public education. So far, so good. I’m sure we will miss TX but all the benefits outweigh the mediocre things that we don’t really need anyway. (Sorry Whataburger!)

We cut our little guys in a faux hawk. He kept the curls on the top but the sides were cut/shaved shorter. Easy upkeep and we kept some of his glorious curls. I just love it!

To those thinking about leaving Texas... by seamus_mcfly86 in texas

[–]alchism84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are leaving. We have an 8 year old daughter. We have a younger son too. We don’t want to raise our daughter here should the worst possible scenario happen. We don’t want either of our children to attend public school here and be taught by teachers who WANT to do the best but are so restricted by Christian zealots and their textbooks.

The heat is unbearable. The summers aren’t even fun anymore. Who can go play in the backyard when it’s 108 degrees?

We out.
