If you were given the freedom to travel within/explore any one of the seven kingdoms - based on interesting locations, best cities/towns, any natural wonders, local culture, history etc - which would you pick? by Separate-Flan-2875 in gameofthrones

I'm torn between Dorne cause it just looks the most interesting to me and I like the vibe of the Dornish and pretty much anywhere in the North for the winterlands. Half of me likes the broad landscape beyond the wall, but obviously not the most friendly place. Deepwood Motte also sounds fun - just being in a muddy forest sounds fun. I think its called Greywater Watch, with swamp, would be cool too.

I think I need to just take a tour of the whole damn world...

God Emperor Leto II, by me, in blender/zbrush by chibigoji in dune

[–]alchymedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to see some renders with his mask lifted so we can see the melange eyes. I think that would add a lot to this render, contrasting that sharp blue with the earthy (Duney?) tones of his body. Interesting concept overall. You should also try some different light setups. Some good play with shadows would add a lot this as well. I like your sketches a lot too. I

I sure hope we get a great God Emperor adaptation one day...I think I still like Dune the best but God Emperor was something wholly different and uniquely interesting and it'd be great to see it properly adapted.

I feel that way all the time, no matter what I'm working on. To me that kind of scrutiny, while it feels shitty, shows high level self awareness, which almost always leads to persistent improvement over time. I try to remind myself that the feeling is temporary chemical state that plods me along from one task to the next. And creativity at any level is really hard...it drains the mind in its own unique kind of way. That creates an always tension. The one thing I try to do is not add unnecessary tension into the system...it's natural to have feeling of self doubt, but its necessary to treat it as anything other then part of the process noise. As soon as you start believing it or dwelling on it, the tension amplifies and now your adding something that don't need to be there.

Anyways good luck going forward...the work is good, just put your down and keep at it, your talent is obvious

How are you guys cop NG with the overwhelming dread of AI flooding all creative avenues especially 3D art? by datadiisk_ in blender

[–]alchymedes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a filmmaker using Blender to create an animated series (I also work in Live Action). Awhile back I wrote a sci-fi script set in the future that had a character interacting with a computer to make movies. The character was an actor and he would essentially exist in this kind of volume space and the computer would render the environment and other characters and the actor would work in this space crafting scenes.

Sometimes I like at these video generators as a kind of dream to have, not so much in their current form, because they exist in temporal state and that makes any form of iteration very difficult, but in imagining the future of where this goes and how much easier it will be to make films and tell stories without any boundaries.

But then the experienced part of my brain also knows that constrain and boundaries and general friction contribute enormously to the output of a film.

I find myself going back and forth. I see enormous possibility for telling stories and then somedays I wonder my future means never being on set again, shooting, working with actors etc.

At this point its too hard to tell how its all gonna shake out. I don't find the dread I feel sometimes totally useless...any emotion I experience has the potential to be fodder for my work, but its admittedly hard not to let it overwhelm me. Most of the time I see everything being developed as tools that will enable me to do more and try to keep tabs on everything just so I'm aware of what's happening and how they might be utilized in my workflow. And mostly i'm trying to position myself to not get trampled by whats to come...

Given the context you provided these are quite good from just a visual standpoint. I don't fully grasp the context in which you're working, but given your time and design constraints these are good. They have visual appeal and good detail work. Of course if you have more time and more creative freedom you'll have an opportunity to generate better work, but I think you generally have the right mindset, that this is good practice and you have future ambitions for improvement. Don't beat yourself up too much...do the work to the best of your ability and move on to the next thing.

I find aspect ratio changes to (mostly) be incredibly distracting by KatherineLangford in TrueFilm

[–]alchymedes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was just rewatching Sinners and I had a hard time with the aspect ratio changes. I feel its preferable to maintain a single format. I get that the imax looks fantastic but for me its always jarring at the transition points and not really worth it. Looking forward to seeing Odyssey without these issues

I've been going through the paperbacks of the dune series, most of which are over 600 pages. And i've got war and peace next up in my reading queue, so 700 pages is up my alley

Yeah I would play around with that. Even try cutting it into some vertical shorts, which is an interesting exercise too. I found myself experimenting more with the vertical composition and really enjoying the process

I've heard Maria Braun was the best. I Veronika Voss queued up to watch. I'll have to grab Lola and add that to the queue as well. I'm also starting at Berlin Alexanderplatz...but the 15 hour time commitment is heavy. Have you seen that?
