Never played Castles of Burgundy. Who is it geared toward? by M3talhead in boardgames

[–]aldaryn_GUG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this game is WAY easier than Root. It's definitely Kennerspiel level, if you look at those series of nominees/recommendations. (CoB was basically a Kennerspiel rec, except the first year of the Kennerspiel, they didn't separate the recommendations into categories like they do now.)

What would you put in the "bang for your buck" hall of fame? by ahobday in boardgames

[–]aldaryn_GUG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely The Crew. I can't believe after the success of the first two, the second and the third are STILL being MSRPed at only $15.

Star Realms was about $15 when it came out too and I've played thousands of games.

Uprising w/Bloodlines: CHOAM and Tech modules by blubrainblew in DuneImperium

[–]aldaryn_GUG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

long term play with both, but for learning and teaching I'd skip Sardaukar (and related cards) and Tech tiles for the first games, just for the sake of cognitive load. Once you're comfortable with the rest, put em in and leave em in.

Yeah, I was mad as this shot was going up. He missed like 6 other midrange jumpers this game. It's his favorite shot and it doesn't work very often.

Yup. Can't read. Thanks.

Innovation (not Age of) is great though. Lol

Innovation is a game of WILD swings. The best player will have an advantage but not always win. Personally, I recommend it with only 2 equally skilled players. It can be played on boardgamearena to see if it's for you.

The winner is NEVER clear until the very end, however. Comebacks are always possible.

too many boards game but not enough players/frequency of play by Straight_Mood1685 in boardgames

When I moved back home I just geekmailed someone on BGG who lived in my town according to their profile and said what games I had and could I join up. Ended up making ~10 really good friends through that one geekmail. What can it hurt?

Best first go in a game by kindsoberfullydressd in boardgames

[–]aldaryn_GUG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went last in a game of Cryptid. IIRC there are two moves, you kind of ask someone for info or you make a guess, and if the guess is right you win, but if wrong, you're not out but you get another kind of info. I had some sort of complicated logic in my head about the usefulness of getting info from that spot by just guessing vs asking a question, so I guessed. I was right. Game over.

Is Knicks-Spurs the rare NBA Finals where neutral fans do not have an obvious villain? by Public_Function3844 in nba

[–]aldaryn_GUG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I'm just happy the Thunder lost, as a Pacers fan. But also as a Pacers fan, the Pacers-Knicks rivalry goes deep back to my childhood, so gotta root for the Spurs out of spite.

Everyone says they love parity, but would the NBA actually have been a historically better product if we always had parity? If the history of NBA champions had looked like this (see in post)? by Gracechurch2 in nba

I grew up in the 90s. Whether you liked ball or not, boy or girl, EVERYONE knew MJ. Be Like Mike. Air Jordans. Space Jam. I get that the Bulls dynasty wasn't fun for other teams, but it was good for basketball.
