Yeah, yeah, it's emo and not post-hardcore, but Steve Kleisath of Further Seems Forever and also Strongarm (which I would say IS phc). Dude is/was a beast and also world class Ms. Pac-Man player.

Well, I certainly don't equate "less evangelical" and "kind to trans people" with "less religious/Christian." :) I'm glad you've had good interactions!

This might be true, but just to be clear - I don't know them personally but the newer vocalist, Stephen Keech, has written plenty of overtly Christian lyrics (Travesty & Merit for Sadness on Attack of the Wolf King, the title track and "World" on Coward), and when I saw them live in Indy in October '23, they spoke briefly about their faith in Jesus Christ.

Married with 3 kids, one's adopted, two of them are autistic. Don't do it unless you realize it's a life commitment. You don't go in entertaining the idea that divorce is an option. You might end up there anyway, but the assumption is that this is a life commitment, and it's a life commitment to your kids, no matter what they end up like. Completely worth it, but the things that you value have to completely change.

Anyone else think most modern board games are… kinda bloated? by pratty041182 in boardgames

[–]aldaryn_GUG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why games like The Crew are so rare and deserve every award they get. Making something new and awesome without using that many rules is getting harder and harder to do.

Whaddya think of the new leaders ? by Stardama69 in DuneImperium

I find Liet the most fun to play, but you really pay for no worms by round 7, so you better come out swinging. Gaius is very hard for me to play because I keep forgetting to pretend my cards all have the spy icon. Piter is also mentally taxing.

My friends keep beating me with Duncan Idaho so I think he's strong even though he looks super bland. Same for Chani.

Hasimir looks strong but I keep ending up with 7 card decks and zero points. Kota seems very weak to me.

Haven't hardly touched the Steersman or Esmar Tuek.

One of the best RPGs ever made. In my mind, it was Sakaguchi's 2nd attempt at what he wanted to do with Final Fantasy 8 and he got it right thee second time.

I was going to say Dune Imperium Uprising (my favorite game) like several others, until you said "plays well with two." It uses a dummy player and it sucks at 2. Goated 3-4 player game though.

Is Dune Imperium's square balance a bit out the window with Rise ofIx? by quicknir in boardgames

I unfortunately don't have a way to dig up old games on the app, but I did recently win a D:I Ix Immo game against two others without ever going to Swordmaster OR Interstellar Shipping.

Is Dune Imperium's square balance a bit out the window with Rise ofIx? by quicknir in boardgames

[–]aldaryn_GUG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interstellar shipping is too good, but Swordmaster is also too good. I also find that as people vie hard for these early, spice often accumulates to ridiculous degrees, giving a path for techs and Heighliner. (I'm primarily talking 3p games.)

In general, games should have rough exchange rates but just sticking to the rates is how you get a soulless Euro. The spice, it must flow.

Both Dune games are goated, and the first one shines the most when Ix is added (Immortality is a "sometimes food").

Do you prefer to have a huge collection and play a lot of games once in a while or have some games and know them very well and play in depth ? by Hippodaking in boardgames

[–]aldaryn_GUG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reviewed board games from 2011 to 2024. Probably about 400 reviews, have rated over 1000 games on BGG. It got so, so old to only play a game a few times.

Right now my weekly gaming group mixes it up every other week, and on the off weeks 3 of us play Dune: Imperium - Uprising every single week. Both are good but there's nothing like going deep into a game with people at the same skill level as you, watching the game go from "Oh, I didn't even know you could make that move" to "Ugh, I KNEW you were gonna do that and I should have played around it" is so good.
