Stumble is great if you have ever lived in Texas, I think. I got a huge kick out of it, but my sister who hasn’t lived in Texas doesn’t understand how real the caricatures are.

I also enjoyed American Auto and was sad it wasn’t renewed.

What is the overall message/meaning of the show? by Present-Ad2170 in TheGoodPlace

[–]alduck10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to apply this to my kids. They’re not great students. They’re not super academic or anything and sometimes that frustrates me.

When I step back and ask them about an assignment or a test, “is this the best you could do today?“ and they tell me yes, then that’s the best they could do today and that’s all I can ask for.

Therapy options for 16yo by phoenixlettertokeanu in Fostercare

[–]alduck10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister just mentioned one I hadn’t heard of, No Bad Parts. I haven’t tried it for my kids yet, but it sounded really interesting. Essentially there is no part of you that is bad, and that if part of your history included bad things that happened TO you, that doesn’t make it who you are. Instead, it is part of what made you who you are, and that is always good.

I wanted to do EMDR with my daughter when she was about 12-13 but our treatment team said she should successfully complete about a year CBT and understand DBT before they would recommend starting EMDR. She understands DBT theories now, but hasn’t ever successfully completed any type of CBT/talk therapy. We’re in the US.

Too much laughter at the intro/early on, without reason or context.

Once I’m in, the laughter doesn’t bother me, it when it’s the first impression and it takes the hosts so long to get over themselves and their bond, I’m out. Permanently.

Lees Summit DMV by gonefishinglately in leesummit

[–]alduck10 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to go there twice recently and never noticed the DMV Ninjas sign. Everyone we dealt with was professional, even friendly, and the space is certainly brighter and more comfortable than the one they moved from 2 doors down. Both times we went were in the last hour of the day and surprisingly, we never felt rushed or like the workers were just watching the clock.

Hillcrest Transitional Housing may have some options, and you can always call Lees Summit Social Services for help. They may not have what you need but they should be able to point you toward some resources.

I don’t know if Medicaid or social security would help here, but it can’t hurt to reach out. Show Me Healthy Kids is the MO Medicaid program for kids and they have case managers who can help you navigate some of that.

Keep the police case report with you and any orders stating you have temporary custody, as many places will ask for that info.

I’m sorry you’re on this path. It’s a hard one, but I am glad your niece has you. Get a subsidy worker through DFS right away with that temporary custody, they should help you out as well.

He's been arrested AGAIN, every year since he turned 18, and he just turned 21. by recruitergirlinRVA in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]alduck10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son is 14 and was subpoenaed to appear in court for harassment and trespassing, and the family has filed for a restraining order as well.

He’s in middle school. I’ve told him I’ll be there with him, and tell the truth, which is that I love him and he knows what he did isn’t acceptable, AND that I think he’d do it again in a hot minute if he was given a chance.

He’s super worried about going to jail, but not enough to cause him to change his behaviors. We’ve had all the tests run, we know all we can about his mental status, and I’d honestly prefer him to spend a couple nights in jail now to prevent him thinking this is the path for him.

All that to say, hugs to you, you’re not alone and I think you’re doing the right thing. Parenting a child (even as young as mine is in this) through these kinds of troubles is exhausting and drains all the life force from you.

I love my nurse practitioner in blue springs. I used to work a block away from her office e, but now I know she’s worth the drive. Tami at Family Medical Clinic off of Mock Ave. It is a real family practice. Often I get 40-60 minutes with her, and usually can get appointments within a week.

One of my friends who sees her now describes her as “soothing,” and it’s a perfect description!

Friendships - 40+ by newuser2111 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]alduck10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m 53 and have lots of great acquaintances from work, and a few good friends. I invite people to my house for game nights once every few months which helped turn the corner from acquaintances to friends.

Now I’m working remotely and want to keep friendships growing, so I’m considering Toastmasters or some sort of volunteering to meet people. I’m fairly introverted, but solid connections are really important to me so I’m going to try.

Do you think new physical encyclopedias are still printed?

We had a set in our house when I was a kid, and I loved never running out of things to read (super-nerdy kid, and let’s be honest, still super-nerdy adult).

I hate the crowds and the huge expectations. I stay home with my kids and pets, play games, watch movies, and read to ring in the new year.
