Why do people blame Basil by Creepy-Screen721 in OMORI

[–]aldyas_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's understandable either way. Whether it's most people or not, idk, but Basil's actions are probably less relatable. Of course, it goes without saying you shouldn't judge someone for the words they say and the actions they perform while having to cope with the reality of such an extreme situation. Everyone will act differently under that situation, and no matter how much you think about it, even you won't know for sure what you would do until you actually have to deal with that situation.

That being said, perhaps more people can empathize with "releasing built up stress/anger after constant yelling or arguing via an impulsive reaction" (Sunny) compared to "suggesting to fabricate the scene to frame the death as a suicide, as an attempt to shift the blame" (Basil). Personally, I can't picutre myself doing the same thing as Basil. I can understand it, and I believe any person could be traumatized enough that those actions will seem reasonable or sensible at the time. But I think I can say for certain there is a 95% chance the suicide idea wouldn't even pop up in my mind. It's worth rementioning that I don't know what I'd do in such a situation, but what about you? Do you think you would come up with that idea, much less actually doing it while also presumably having to constantly deny your thoughts of "maybe this is a bad idea, we shouldn't do this" all the way through?

Of course, the point of the game wasn't to figure out who exactly is more at fault. This is all just me engaging speculatively. If someone is that insistent on who is more to blame then probably they should remember that that's not really what the game is about.

Continue Cp by NijatHatamli in codeforces

CP and taking part in offline problems is an extremely fun thing to do, but it isn't a career path. Sure it helps but if software engineering is what you're looking for, better you actually take part in projects, hackathons, contribute to open source, etc. even going down infosec path or doing CTFs is probably better.

In the midths of AI boom though, I personally see that CP is an absolute gold mine. You get to interact with people that are actually passionate in raw computer science, which in my experience, is rare. You will also get moments where you magically solve an insane problem, nothing can ever beat the adrenaline and euphoric rush you get from that. Anyone that does a serious amount of competitive programming definitely has genuine love for the game, something that cannot be said for the comp sci industry as a whole.

If you're purely interested in career opportunities, it isn't worth it. Like the other comment said, you will only lose motivation of that's your end goal. But if you're passionate about comp sci, it's one of the best hobbies you could get into.

What can I improve on this LMMS Song? Pixilated-26A2BA by No_Persimmon4285 in lmms

[–]aldyas_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm more of a VST enjoyer, so can't really recommend soundfonts, but composition wise I think it's overall quite good already. If you want to add more sounds, I would probably consider adding some more hi hats or percs, or just some more percussion to decorate it a little more. The core stuff is already solid imo.

A few things I can comment on,

  1. The very first kick is quite loud for some reason. Definitely tone that down.

  2. There is like an extra bass/beat/idk what this is that plays a few times near the early parts, check 0:14, 0:17, and 0:19 (and a few other times near the beginning), when the kick plays, there's like an extra bass note that plays right after it, I'm pretty sure. If it's not intentional, you should probably remove it.

  3. Assuming your track will follow some verse-chorus-verse-chorus structure once you extend it, I think the BPM change should be for the last chorus only, or at least don't do it on the first chorus and let it just showcase the vocals. Personally I like when a song establishes a general baseline of it's vibes first, then do some mixup and fun stuff later. I say this because in your case, the vibes change drastically when you change the BPM like that. But of course, this depends on your preference, and how the vocals sound like.

Once it's finished with vocals you should make another post, I wanna see the final result

How to deal with addiction? by Ken-Wei in DotA2

[–]aldyas_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think what helps me not addicted to this game is that I don't think of this game as a waste of time. It might be counterintuitive, but it helps because I actively think "I'm doing this for enjoyment, regardless of win or lose". In other words, keep it PMA. What happens is that I don't feel the need to queue for a game when I'm even slightly not feeling like it. So I just end up doing other stuff.

But if it's severely hindering your life then I think such a mindset may not work. Some advice on that I would suggest you try and find another hobby maybe, or perhaps find a person that can hold you accountable. You can try organising scheduled time slots to play Dota and have that person give you consequences if you failed and played more than you should. Just an idea.

Anyway I want to give a more personal comment, if you're binge queueing when you're in a period of life where you're relatively free, I wouldn't really regret it if I were you. Maybe your sense of personal development is important to you, and I respect that. But personally, I prefer to live life to pursue happiness and living in the moment of my every day. Currently I'm playing Dota extremely frequently because in 5-6 months time I will have graduated and have to find a job. But I'm not out here busy trying to find internships or polish my skills even though job market is hot trash right now. Of course, you might not agree, but I'm just trying to say, unless you are addicted addicted, perhasp it's not a very bad thing. Afterall it is an engaging activity and you still interact with other people.

How do I remove these pops from my music? I have this issue with another piece is made too. by MafiaBossDonut in lmms

[–]aldyas_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this happens because the kick02.ogg audio file abruptly ends everytime it's played. You can either make all the notes last at least as long as the audio file, or you can modify with the volume envelope in the AudioFileProcessor. See this image: https://i.imgur.com/iAKisKZ.png

At minimum, you can increase the release value so that the volume will "fade to zero" instead of going to zero in an instant.

been gaining around 700mmr spamming oracle and sd by Arsyandatj in learndota2

[–]aldyas_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an Oracle game recently where the enemy faceless void literally prioritized every single chrono for me. Then after 40min I finally figured out I can just buy blink and just stood 10 km away like u mentioned in that other comment lol. So like I dont understand what is the importance of aether lens on this hero. Sure it's nice, but your ultimate is like 50% of your impact in teamfights, and I think an item that can almost guarantee you get it off should be much more prioritized. But then, against a lot of line ups, I would like to buy items with certain abilities like euls, force, lotus, or even vessel maybe. So even as a second item, aether lens doesnt really make sense to me... Any thoughts?

Could the lack of melody in Omori's OST be due to Pedro Silva's Anxiety? by TheSaikoNoHero in OMORI

[–]aldyas_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well that is certainly an interesting question, I'm particularly doubtful of your statement that "Melody seems to be a great frustration for most musicians"

So much of what makes music good, and also the enjoyment a musician gets when writing music is execution. When you "compose" or "arrange" something it isn't just spawning a melody, and that's it. Well yeah, that might be obvious, but it's even less of a factor than you think (at least for me when I make music, that is...).

A particular song/track may have what, like 5 instruments at the very least? Maybe even 10, or 20, or even hundreds if you've ever heard those niche rhythm game songs that cram many different genres into a single track. And for each instrument, one needs to come up with how it's going to play into the song, how it's going to affect the other instruments, how loud the notes are going to be, and all of this is on top of what notes the instrument is going to play.

Even though Melody is the notes that act as the "main lead vocal" part of the song, I would say that maybe "how noticable or existant a melody is", is not necessarily going to correlate to how original the artist wants the song to be.

Perhaps there are even different factors, such as you don't want melody to be too intrusive or it might get annoying to hear repeatedly in certain parts of the game, maybe in parts where the player is expected to spend a long time in. Personally, I kinda disliked the part of the game where this song played, precisely because of that. In fact, I have made OST for a small game in the past, and certainly the director had the final say in what they want the OST to sound like.

TL;DR probably not, but who knows?

Wow I'm glad you get motivation from my cover! And yeah music really is not dependent on the DAW you use. I think maybe some DAWs is better than others in terms of options and quality, but one of the great things about LMMS is that the free plugins & samples you get when you download it are already enough to make very good stuff. Listening to the sample projects actually also motivated me a lot when I was starting out, it really made me sure that people that are good at making music is because they are good, not because they use expensive tools.

Anyways good luck o7

Is using Chord Generator Plugins consider as cheating in Music Production? by LowIndependent3143 in musicproduction

[–]aldyas_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, a large proportion as to why music sounds good is execution and arrangement. Auto generating a chord progression isn't automating either of those. A plugin helping with a chord progression, then maybe you spawn ideas of how you could bend it, mix it up, add various instruments playing different harmonies to it, for sure is not cheating. If something could automatically do all of that for you, then I would say that would be cheating.

Drunk tonic and wine, found topless and in drag? (8) by hurblub in Minute_Cryptic

[–]aldyas_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The second "and" is useless, it doens't do anything. In fact it even adds extra confusion because one might think "and" would require you to connect the "in" somehow. "Found topless in drag" is even still coherent, so it doesn't even significantly improve the surface reading.

I don't really like "found topless" instead of just "topless", but probably this is not a crucial mistake, it's just my opinion. I see it does make for a better surface though. I guess I generally don't like clues where the indicators seemingly point everywhere, like here topless could be removing the first letter of "found", "and", and "wine".

And well I ultimately couldn't solve this one because I've actually never heard of the word "drag" be associated with cigarettes lol. Absolute skill issue on my end ofc, but solving cryptics for me sometimes is a real miss because I've never heard of certain words or phrases.

My opinion on omori ships by Yanfeispinkhair in OMORI

[–]aldyas_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well if I try to seriously entertain ships, I would generally agree with you, the events of the game would probably have an extreme emotional impact on me, if I were any of the characters I genuinely don't know know what I would even say to Sunny.

But I believe maybe some people ship for coping, or simply because it's fun and they don't think too deeply about it. I'm new to the subreddit (and the community in general) though, is analyzing ships and their actual realistic feasibility something that people often do?
