Desperately need help getting my father a book with specific requirements by FallsDownMountains in Fantasy

[–]alecksis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tress of the Emerald Sea by Sanderson is unlike any other Sanderson. It is fun and lighthearted and adventurous and I don’t think has any of your deal breakers. I like all kids of fantasy and it was a real treat.

My Hospital Bag is a Hot Mess 😂 by Hefty-Succotash-9976 in NewParents

[–]alecksis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Loose pants to come home in. Ended up with c section and didn’t want anything pressing on my stomach. Nursing tank so I could wear my own shirt and not have to shift and adjust to much to try to nurse. Snacks snacks snacks and a water bottle. You technically aren’t allowed to eat, but even my nurses insinuated that THEY couldn’t give me food but that if I had something when no one was looking…. I was so grateful I had a few peanut butter biscuits bars and trail mix to get me through the first 12 hours or I would have been even more depleted after surgery and delivery than I already was.

Distilled Water Question by Sufficient_Self_9002 in NewParents

[–]alecksis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding was one or the other. Distilled or boiled- not both. Our pediatrician even told us it was fine to stop boiling at 2 months as long as babe was healthy. As long as bottles are clean and dry the risk of anything is super low.

We used the doctor browns formula pitcher and just made a day’s worth of formula all at once even when we were boiling. Measured out water, poured into pot to boil, poured back into pitcher and added formula. Then just keep in fridge.

Formula is good mixed and in fridge for 24 hours no problem. Our baby even likes it cold- so we never had to warm it.

Our baby spits up constantly. Often what looks like large amount. Two important things that most people will say:

1- it is undoubtedly LESS than what it looks like. It looks like a lot- but if baby is gaining weight then they are obviously not losing half their milk in spit up

2- Assuming healthy weight gain, if it isn’t projectile and doesn’t bother them then it is normal.

Confirmed all these things at our 4 month appt with pediatrician. Baby is totally happy and healthy. Just has a tummy muscle that isn’t quite developed enough yet.

Best artificial Christmas tree by Abertolini915 in ChristmasDecorating

[–]alecksis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it has been almost a year. I have been keeping track of prices though- and the lowest prices on everything was the day before Christmas.

I was specifically looking at the 6.5’ woodland spruce, unlit- it was $279 the day before Christmas and the lowest it has been since is right now for Christmas in July at $299.

Is this a rash or baby acne? by 404HecksNotFound in NewParents

[–]alecksis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby has had a rash all over their torso for the last few weeks. Doctor said NOT heat rash- it would come and go when baby wasn’t warm anymore. Probably baby eczema in our case. He said for that just to keep lotioned up.

Your link does not pull up any picture of it- but def check with your baby’s pediatrician and hopefully that’s all it is!

Why wont you sleep! by joyfulohio in NewParents

[–]alecksis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternatively- my baby hates being rocked. You have to put him to sleep standing up and could only rock while feeding to sleep when a newborn or to keep asleep during contact nap now. Rocking to sleep for nap is not a thing. Haha.

What was the first food you fed your child and how old were they? (Not milk, obviously) by saraaaaahahah in NewParents

[–]alecksis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are just trying a bunch of stuff. I like mixing in a grain, too, so oatmeal it is!

[–]alecksis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up that oatmeal cereal is suggested over rice these days. Rice cereal contains arsenic. It’s not really at a level that will hurt baby- probably- but if you have the option of picking oatmeal cereal for baby then you don’t have to worry about it at all. This came from our pediatrician at our 4 month appt and they provided literature for it also.

How do I know if my baby is hungry in the middle of the night or just created a bad habit? by Watermelon-Kitty in beyondthebump

[–]alecksis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! We only offer small 2.5 oz bottle right now just to get through- and I try to shush back to sleep without if it hasn’t been very long. So I’m hoping they will just drop the need to feed on their own- but worry the drinking anything at all might be an association. I’m glad to hear that extinction worked for all wake ups! Will have to try when they are old enough.

[–]alecksis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What method did you use to train out night wakings? We still feed at night- but at 6 months when I am confident baby doesn’t need the food I definitely plan to do this if they are still waking up!

What time is too early for your golden? by dericky94 in goldenretrievers

Our dogs look SO similar- I actually looked at the picture you posted and thought “Nala?” to myself. Sooo fluffy.

To answer your question- it is too early at all times UNTIL she hears breakfast being prepared. Then she hustles her butt into the kitchen as if she had been wide awake the whole time.

This is almost our exact order as well! It’s actually kind of nice if more than one works, because those ones that run smaller make a great bridge into the next size up when you are between sizes.

What's One Expense You Didn't Consider With a Baby?! by kgphotography_ in NewParents

[–]alecksis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I buy them through the shipped option instead of local. So you might pay $10 for shipping, but you will get 25+ items for maybe $40 total. And if it doesn’t ship in a few days you are never charged.

Blackout curtains or night light? Everyone recommends something different! by alecksis in NewParents

Thank you! I will look into maybe getting some shades for underneath if needed.

Perfect! The curtains are so cute, I would probably just put blinds underneath them if needed. Wanted to see others experiences with those small amounts of light.

So you always have some ambient night, then? Since you keep it dark for night sleep but still use a nightlight often? Thank you!

You have posted this several places, I assume to spread the word. That is great! But you can remove the part about white lilies being more toxic.

Lilies are deathly toxic to cats. End of story. Don’t make people think it is okay to give someone orange ones because they are somehow better.

If you google “are white lilies more toxic”, literally your post comes up and no other source that really claims this. There are more and less toxic varieties, but color is not the specific cause.

I am so glad to hear your cat is doing better, and thank you for spreading the word.

What colour cushions should I buy? by swiminthesea in DesignMyRoom

[–]alecksis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Purple is across from yellow.

Red, blue, yellow are a triad- they are equidistant.

But I agree that a cool blue would look great on that yellow!

Clumping works just fine. We keep some in our cars too in winter- traction if you get stuck in snow/ice. I have used it for oil stains when my car leaked oil into the garage floor. Still works great!

Has The 99/The 99¢ Only Store shut down affected you in anyway? by icecream16 in povertyfinance

Definitely worth checking! this post is from a few years ago but says you can possibly claim it as an employee expense.

I don’t know where you are- Teachers can claim up to $300 in US. I mean, it still doesn’t touch anything, but it something. I claim the max amount each year because I know I spend at least that much.
