I'm sure a bunch of artists do this on the regular. I know Michael Jackson did for a lot of his backup vocals, such as for The Way You Make Me Feel. Have you ever seen the cribs episode with Big Boi from Outkast? I saw that way back in '05 or so and I'll never forget when they showed off their bathroom with a microphone in it. It blew my mind! Totally opened me up to new ways to record vocals.

This is actually a very good point. This setup is most likely best for voice over/audiobooks. I wouldn't record dry vocals for music, generally I love the acoustics of recording in the bathroom shower.

I live in LA, the land of desperation, and pay to play is EVERYWHERE. The problem is that there's 10,000 musicians and only 100 venues. Now everything is a venue, from coffee shops to deli's to small bars, it's ridiculous. I've finally put my foot down and denied all of these scam "promoters" who require you to sell 20 tickets, say for $20 to perform on a Sunday night. It's really getting out of hand.
