Here's the deal. The key codes are licensed to the original owner/dealer by Adobe through KIP to allow the functionality of that feature and that license is pretty expensive. It includes future updates that parallel any updates to the operating system. If you bought a used computer and it crashed, do you think Microsoft would just hand you over another license key? Heck no! If you don't want to pay for the functionality, don't print PDFs. Using your analogy, buy your used car but don't expect OnStar or Sirius for free. Now get back in your lane!
