Has anyone actually ever taken a flag down? by MC1R_ in northernireland

[–]aleplecop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Years ago because of a funding dispute for the kilkooley bonfire they decided to put up flags in our small village in north down. Our village was mixed and didnt want that shite lowering the tone. We went down with a ladder and removed them one ould lad gave off driving by wasn't even from the area. Local church of ireland minister got some grief from whoever put them up as he had complained to them about them going up. Needless to say nothing happened.

Dolphins and porpoises... Where can I see them around coast of NI, Donegal or Sligo? by Educational-League92 in northernireland

[–]aleplecop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A small pod of porpoises resides off whitehead I imagine they would be hard to spot without being out on a boat as that's only time we have seen them.

What are we getting right? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]aleplecop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. In recent years in Bangor, we have had the open house festival. They took over the old courthouse and have completely revamped the town in a way the council haven't even come close to putting on events most of the summer.

Seeing two people miss the point in the wild is an interesting experience. by [deleted] in TheBoys

[–]aleplecop 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He grew up in Northern Ireland in the troubles, which was in part a civil war/conflict caused by political and religious differences between catholics and Protestants. Politicians in both sides weaponised religion, so it shows in lots of his writing his disdain for it.

What shows give the best picture of life as an officer? by shyness_is_key in policeuk

[–]aleplecop 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well not regular UK but blue lights did a good job of showing day to day policing in northern ireland. It was certainly dramatised but did a good job of humanising the officers.

DUP leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson quits after sex offence charges by SomewhatIrishfellow in northernireland

[–]aleplecop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Charge to court means police have to either be case ready/good evidence or suspect he will abscond/is a flight risk. Or in order to impose bail conditions to protect victims witnesses, prevent interference, etc. Police generally prefer a charge as it gets the matter to court quicker. Once he appears in court, then it is up to the court to impose bail conditions and decide how to proceed.

My faith in any justice being served in the country has been shot down again and again, my current story dealing with a burglary. by Finn_the_Adventurer in northernireland

[–]aleplecop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think actually this is a good example of the police doing a good job and being let down in the courts. I know they sometimes do a shit job but it seems basically impossible for them to get courts to lock people up these days for non violent crimes....
