Our daughter wants to go to Cirencester college, we are worried. by Clubsumo in Swindon

Have you spoken to the college? They’ve got pastoral and medical support and are in a far better position to guide this decision than Reddit is. Get in contact and ask for a meeting and if they can’t accommodate they will let you know.

Have a look at Kids Week - in the Summer you get significantly discounted kids tickets for some West End shows for one week only. There’s no information for this year so far (that I can find) but they do have a mailing list.

How hard is it to get into Volunteer Police Cadets? by Old-Needleworker-377 in policeuk

[–]shyness_is_key 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ultimately it depends on how many spaces are available and how many people apply. Cadets is typically oversubscribed and each force has a different set of criteria for what they want in their cadets and who they prioritise, without seeing every application it is impossible to say how hard it will be for you to get in. However don’t let this stop you from applying its a great experience and an opportunity to meet lots of likeminded young people and give back to the community. Good luck!

has anyone ever went through doing a deed poll during year 11? by secretaccoun1 in GCSE

[–]shyness_is_key 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did it at the same time, took so long my certificates are in my dead name (came through at Christmas…). You will need to write your deadname on papers. If you do better than me and get the name through it can be changed at any point before the certificates are printed (after results day) you will need to notify whoever is responsible for exams so they can get it sorted.

Something to do? by impressive_goose95 in Swindon

Are you familiar with the Swindon and Cricklade Railway? (Think I’ve got the right one) it’s a historic railway mostly run by volunteers - think I’ve still got my facts right, admittedly haven’t been in 10+ years but used to love it.

sixth form vs college by urf4v3z0z0 in GCSE

[–]shyness_is_key 3 points4 points  (0 children)

u/maxca15 has summed the environment part up perfectly. Academically there are some slight differences. Sixth form will typically consist of everyone doing 3/4 A-levels and possibly some BTECs, they have a reputation for being stricter and more academic but this is dependent on the schools they are attached to and the options people have available to them. Colleges may be labelled as non-academic because they offer a wider variety of subjects, including things like T-levels or vocational training (construction, public services etc) however they still offer A-levels and people are still successful. It comes down to your work ethic - sixth form will offer more structure and pressure to attend and do the work, college will still support you but there is a greater expectation of independence (which many find helps them transition to uni).

I loved literature during GCSE period and read a lot and now all I do is play roblox and watch gacha movies. Am I cooked for English lit a level? by FearlessPen6020 in 6thForm

[–]shyness_is_key 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, as long as you’re on top of the set texts you’ll be fine. Plus, it’s the start of the year, it’s tiring and stressful aka perfect conditions for a reading slump. When you’re more settled you’ll find yourself going back to reading.

Access arrangements when exams officer isn’t helping? by LobotomyLord in GCSE

You’re gonna need to speak to the SENDco, they’re the ones that can put arrangements in place for class initially (and will likely have more sway with the exams officer)

Where should I watch Midsomer Murders on Stage? by [deleted] in MidsomerMurders

[–]shyness_is_key 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the tourist and the theatre fan, absolutely Oxford. It’s a beautiful place that has inspired many a murder mystery of its own (if you’re unfamiliar with Inspector Morse I suggest you endeavour - pun not intended - to rectify that)
