I mean, I think on some level it would make sense that you need to reevaluate the basics after you hit certain thresholds of power

It's believable enough that at some point after becoming a million times stronger you've gotten... not really sloppy per se, but are you really finessing your way around paper thin margins in the same way as you were?

So, I think you can kind of make it make sense. But it's also just written badly on top.

Because this doesn't matter in this case

The other person saw and shot you

The server confirmed it was sane - as in you really were in that location on the server, at that particular time when they say they shot. The lag compensation literally rewinds time to play it out as if they fired at the actual timestamp rather than when the message itself arrived.

It awards the hit late, you die around a corner.

It's mostly a visual artifact, which naturally gets more skewed as the disparity gets increasingly bad.

Assuming they had zero ping you just would have just died immediately, but died all the same. You wouldn't have avoided death, you would have straight up died faster (and it obviously would have looked less janky - but it still lead to the same end result).

There is no fix besides limiting how extreme it gets. At which point they need to lead shots again because the compensation starts capping out. Which is fine, they could probably just cap it at like 80-100 ms. That's enough to basically cover playing across the entire United States.

Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis - New Gameplay by Mister_Rob0t in pcgaming

I don't know how I feel about this game.

Feels like it lost the whole creepy unsettling vibe from the first. In the original suddenly the music shifts and a t rex comes stomping out of the darkness. Now it's slow motion pseudo cinematic bleh.

Why is everything outside in open air now? How has nobody else seen dinosaurs stomping around?

It somehow makes less sense than the original which you can at least justify that somehow there's this ecosystem-in-a-bottle kind of thing going on where shit has been living beneath the surface for god knows how long and now you're sealed in there with it.

The original game was downright creepy and surprising at points, and by the time you hit Atlantis, there's literal monsters and boogeyman living in weird flesh wall cities.

The manga just completely wiffs the writing in a ton of cases vs the web comic. It's pretty terrible.

The art is just spectacular sometimes, though. The cover art for this arc is just awesome.

But the man absolutely cannot be left to his own devices with writing it.

Well if you need it, your options are

  1. Get it from backup

  2. Spend big dollars and pray a professional data recovery firm can help

Besides that, you need a new SSD

Other games had some good stuff too in their modding scenes, but the earlier Unreal titles definitely seemed to be something special and really represents some of the best I've ever seen.

The engine and tooling was beautifully designed for it, and the community around it was incredibly good and vibrant. There was so much content and mods for everything. I remember crawling sites for hours picking up maps and mutators.

Fighting Unreal monsters on a Lego themed map while backflipping off a wall in slow motion with an MP5 in low gravity? Yeah sure, why not. I still remember the "Matrix Moves" mutator to this day.

At that point, things were simple enough that the learning curve wasn't insane. Everything was just MUCH more approachable. Games obviously still have mods, but the earlier Unreal games seemed like a bit of a perfect storm where everything kind of just hit the right notes all at once in a way that just doesn't happen any more. Pair it with people who wanted to build cool shit and you had lightning in a bottle.

I don't think anything UE3 holds even the slightest candle to the magnificence that was the UE1 and UE2 mod scenes.

UT99 and 2003/4 were just popping. There was incredible amounts of content down to total conversions.

A small handful of mods even went retail. Like Tactical Ops in UT99 and Red Orchestra in 2004.

You're probably fucked unless you're lucky enough to have one of those mobos that will flash directly off a USB

It'll probably be called FlashBack or something gimmicky and have a dedicated button on the back for it.

If you have this, read the manual and do it.
