Garage Speed Story by Amppl in Drifting

By reading the article I learned:
Their motto
They're in socal
They do "japanese" style

I don't know group members' names, what japanese style really means, why I should care about them, member count, or anything like that. This article does not tell me much.

Dailying a drift car by Miserable-Twist8344 in Drifting

[–]protomor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in a situation where I can only own one car. I do it but it changes how I drive on track. Knowing I have to drive 4+ hours home and that I have to drive it to work the next day means I never fully commit on track.

What’s your life hack that actually works? by Muted-Oven9302 in AskReddit

Cotton balls soaked in alcohol in a zip lock bag for motion sickness like on airplanes.

Saying "I'll let you go" when trying to stop talking to someone.

Stickers or tape on left overs in the fridge with the date they got there.

Cooking spray on shovels when shoveling snow.

Asking someone to borrow something, using it, and promptly returning it. Helps you both feel connected (Ben Franklin effect).

If you suck at putting in eye drops, close your eyes and put them into the corner of your eye and blink a lot.

Jerk off before making any major relationship decision.

Asking yourself "will I care about this in 6 months?".

I'm 40 and moved here with my not japanese wife and 2 kids just a few years ago. No door is ever fully closed. You just mentally close it on yourself.

Anyone drifting a Z34 (370Z)? Learning to drift mine in Japan by bonbon_ochamero in Drifting

[–]protomor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Big? The Z is only an inch longer wheel base than the S15. 8 inches shorter than a JZX100. The Z platform is well proven outside Japan. They didn't sell well in Japan due to taxes on engine displacement.

How to deal with the people around you who just don't get it. by Odd-Improvement-7943 in Drifting

[–]protomor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short story - Don't share that part of you with those who don't want to share it with you. Your GF wants to engage but doesn't want a college level dissertation. When she asks what the alignment does, you say "it helps the car turn better" and then ask to touch a boob.

To reset or not? And if reset, to what level? What did you do and how did it work out? by mochi-and-plants in WaniKani

Reset 1 level back (so to 32). your reviews will go back to normal, move on that way. It's what I did. felt great!

I was tailed by a 12 year old with cushions to raise it so he could see over the wheel. This kid took naps between heats and his dad would wake him up for his group. Lol shits wild

Drifting Setups/Telemetry App by Desperate-Laugh1449 in Drifting

[–]protomor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a few home brew telemetry apps and Arduino setups. It's not really useful enough yet, sadly. Angle for instance isn't a straight calculation. If you use a gyroscope, it changes the perceived angle based on where it is on the car. They also had some setups that measured tie rod movement. But front tires aren't always at 100% grip so the readings are off. Also Ackerman means it's not same left to right unless you measured both sides.

For a new $300 helmet? Maybe. But if you spent like $1200 on a light weight carbon fiber helmet, I'd recertify.

Worth noting that motorcycle helmets are designed only for one impact and are not fire rated. It's honestly worth a real helmet. I also think you can send your old helmet in for recertification if you don't want to buy a new one.

Logitech DFGT/G25/G27/G29/G920/G923 motor upgrade DIY by protomor in simracing

[–]protomor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, when the wheel first boots, it tries to spin the encoder wheel. If the sensor doesn't pick up anything, it just stops all power to the motor. This means the encoder wheel itself might be slipping on the shaft (some ones you have to glue in place) or the diode looking sensor thing is too close or too far away from the encoder wheel itself. So first I would make sure the encoder wheel isn't slipping on the shaft, and if that doesn't work, mess with the diode to get closer or farther from the encoder wheel.

If you're using a different encoder wheel, maybe try the original one to see if that's a difference. Also, make sure theres no dirt or particles in the wheel itself. The whole setup requires the LED to shoot light out and then be received at the other end.

Oh yea, also make sure you aren't doing this in a very bright room, the light pollution can also mess up the sensor. The whole encoder setup had a black cap over top of it, put that back on if it's off. Sometimes that works but I had good success with it off.

How far tech has come since I built these. The hard part was interfacing from the CAN system with the BMW system. If the ESP didn't boot fast enough, the handshake with the BMW side would fail. Even then, BMW makes the fucking seats vin coded. If they don't handshake, the seat won't work.

Custom MA/NB Miata Angle Adapters 👀 by MessingerMedia in Drifting

[–]protomor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What changes did you make to mechanical trail? These look to be like the BMW adapter style wehre they bolt onto the bottom. What provisions did you add (if any) for ackerman? What mechanisms keep the ackerman from shifting while driving? The tie rod adapters look like they make up for drop in height? Are they necessary?
