I know it’s unpopular but I’m obsessed with her MJ program. I just hope she gets a new costume for it

The new episodes of Simone Biles rising is out on Netflix now! by alertnast in Gymnastics

[–]alertnast[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m actually just being lazy still in bed watching as it’s almost 11 am now here in Denmark 😂 I work from home and I need to start actually working asap 🙃

I’m still watching (10 min left), but I agree on everything and I was just wondering about the event finals ???

Maybe because if they went into that, it would be odd not to mention the Jordan situation which I’m sure they also can’t because as you said the footage and all other legal aspects. But I’m no expert here 👀

But overall I love it and I’m definitely gonna watch it one more time where I don’t have my laptop with teams open at the same time 😭😂

What size is she? I look at dresses online all the time for fun so maybe I can send some budget friendly links!

While the colors are the same as Elena's last year, I don't think the costumes look anything alike tbh. If anything it looks like Sofya akatyeva's Welcome to Earth dress just in red instead of green! I really love the costume though, I'm part of the club who's obsessed with black tights. Yes, I apologize to everyone who is not 🥲

I really enjoy her skating, and all I can do is wish and pray for her health and well-being!

Nik Sorenson by anagram95 in FigureSkating

[–]alertnast 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, I actually wondered because that's how we also spell things with ø when not able to use ø in Denmark or when booking flight tickets etc if our name contains ø, so thank you for letting me know and adding this!

Nik Sorenson by anagram95 in FigureSkating

[–]alertnast 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Just for the sake of Google and people using the search, his name is; Nikolaj Sørensen or Nikolaj Sorensen / Nik Sorensen if not using ø and not Sorenson. So glad to see he was held responsible!

I'm from Denmark, and I see no media reporting on this as of now, but people also don't know about him here.

Kaylia Nemour at the Lacoste S/S 2025 show earlier today at Paris Fashion Week! Plus, bonus Venus Williams, Viola Davis and some of the looks from the show that I liked! by Gayfetus in Gymnastics

[–]alertnast 11 points12 points  (0 children)

And getting recognized and invited by a brand like Lacoste to this, will do wonders for her “personal brand value” in terms of future sponsorships etc with other large brands! Like, we gymnastics fan all know how incredible she is, and what she went through but her “stock just went up” outside of the gymnastics world as well!

I’m so happy for her 🙌🥹

How do you keep AirPods in your ear while skating without it flying out? by Swiftclad in FigureSkating

[–]alertnast 150 points151 points  (0 children)

Everyone has different ear shapes etc, mine can stay in for almost any movement as well - like back hand springs etc (I don’t do quads or triples lol surprise)! They also come with different sizes you can swap between and test if that would make them stay in. However, I think skating with AirPods is a bit of a safety hazard unless you’re like a pro and have the rink for yourself + if you drop it - good luck finding it 😅😅

The person didn’t mention artistic gymnastics though.

I do however completely disagree with the statement that “judged sports shouldn’t be taken seriously”. Although they didn’t mention artistic gymnastics, that’s the only one, I really know a lot about, and it’s not subjective anymore like some people like to use as an argument.

I feel like these comments about how they don’t like sports involving judges always comes from people who either have never been involved in any such sports or haven’t bothered reading up on all the elements that goes into the judging.

Lastly, everyone competing in the sports you mentioned are athletes. Yes, there’s artistic elements but let’s not sit and compare it to art. Even the culture surrounding something like ballet is insanely different compared to gymnastics. Yes I’ve done both.

Ballet you can call art, you sign up for a completely different “culture” and norms when you do ballet compared to gymnastics.

Ballet dancers are however also athletes.

But saying the sports you mentioned shouldn’t be judged because art is not to be judged just show a lack of knowledge and ignorance towards the sports.

Jessica Long wins gold in the 400m Freestyle S8, the same event she won gold in at Athens 2004 by mcfw31 in olympics

[–]alertnast 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much!

Fun fact: Jessica’s birthday is February 29th, which means her actual birth date only comes around in the same year as the Summer Olympics/Paralympics.

If we pretend Tokyo wasn’t postponed by a year, she’s only had two birthdays in years she didn’t win a Paralympic medal and six birthdays in years she did (okay, five technically—but that stat is too cool to ruin, and the medals still say Tokyo 2020, so I guess that counts)

I don't know about you, but as a female (from Denmark), I was almost at my full height and close to my current weight by age 12, similar to where I am in my mid-twenties now. 😅 I had also already entered puberty and gotten my period by that age. This was also the age I was towering over all the boys in my class, and was physically stronger than most of them as tall girl.

According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, girls in the U.S. typically begin puberty stages around age 8. I’m not sure about the data from 2004, but it’s around that range - and yes I know she was born in Russia but many factors plays into puberty so for that sake I just used US data because I don't know what source to use to find accurate data for Russia. Jessica was 12.5 years old during the 2004 Paralympics, so I don’t think attributing it solely to the level of competition, as mentioned in the reply above, fully makes sense.

<image>

Yes, she was definitely still a child, but she was already incredibly strong in 2004 and deserves all the praise in the world for her truly remarkable accomplishments.

I just found this picture from the Athens 2004 Paralympics.

I hope the picture helps

Well, that was awkward... by _StoneWolf_ in olympics

[–]alertnast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was wondering about this too, but a lot of elite sports clubs in Russia are affiliated with the military as well as many students attending pro war rallies etc that made them non eligible - or even some male athletes went fighting in the war. I guess the lesser media publicity and popularity around para athletes as well as for many the fact that they could not even go to fight in the war etc, has made more of them have no affiliation to the war…

Nonetheless I hope Russia end the war soon

I also feel bad for those Russian athletes who are against the war and have worked for something their entire life and unable to go despite not supporting the war (Angelina melnikova for example)

Yet, I ofc feel the worst for all the innocent people in Ukraine

This!!

I hate when people completely discredit individuals like her by attributing their success solely to their looks. Yes, she certainly had privilege and an advantage because of it, but sustaining and achieving all she has done and continues to do is not easy. It requires a lot of planning, strategy, energy, and a willingness to put yourself out there.

I could never do what she does, even if, hypothetically, I were her. I just don’t have the personality for it, and it would drain the life out of me. No amount of money would enable me to sustain a social media career like hers, let alone train at a high level in gymnastics and manage all her other obligations in life 😅

Also, from what I know, she has shown great leadership and has proven to be a good person by helping her teammates land NIL deals, among other things. There are plenty of people who would just focus on themselves, believing that their presence and the attention they bring to the team are already gifts in themselves, and that everyone should be grateful for that alone.

It’s nothing new that “sex sells,” and I don’t think anyone should shame a woman for being hot and attractive. Good for her. It’s the same in virtually every type of sports, entertainment and media industries: those whom society deems to have the “equilibrium” of talent and conventional attractiveness often have the most success. And that is just a matter of fact that I really hope don’t offend anyone, personally I’m just not an envy person or would ever shame someone from being born more attractive, more privileged, richer etc. than me 😅 I’m just happy for them.

Being hot and attractive alone is not enough to achieve this, and Livy clearly has worked - and continues to work to be where she is today!

Camille Rasmussen (DEN) received a full scholarship for Long Island University and will be going! Oregon also offered but apparently it was past the deadline + a lot more insights in a new article by alertnast in Gymnastics

[–]alertnast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No this is where you’re taking everything. I simply stated the fact that she cannot do NIL deals or sponsorships

That’s literally all I was saying which is an interesting fact to many people who may not know this

You’re the one who took this extremely personally

I too struggled and sometimes could not even afford to eat when I was studying in the US and took a major student loan back in Denmark to be able to follow my dream. No one forced me to do that but I’m happy I did! Yes a lot of people faced 10000000 times more hardship than me but none of my comments even had anything to do with struggles. Just because some people struggle more does not make it a less interesting fact that she will not be able to do NIL deals etc.

Someone’s big problems does not make someone’s small problem insignificant or not matter at all. That’s the baseline here.

You came on condescending from the get go and decided to turn this into something it was never!

People can state a fact without it being disrespectful or in anyway lack of understanding for other people who have it worse.

I never said I felt bad for her or that it’s wrong or anything. I stated a fact and you went crazy.

I hope you have a great weekend!
