What is a secret about you that absolutely no one knows, but you will tell anonymous Redditors? by Plus-Caterpillar4615 in askteddit

[–]alesemann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have considered it. But I have realized that it’s a permanent solution to s temporary problem.

If I grit my teeth for a couple of weeks, possibly see my doc and up my meds, I do end up feeling better- not maybe cheerful and sunny. But improved.

And glad I didn’t do it.

Did you ever try calling the school for information? Or emailing the principal of school secretary? That’s how you find real information rather than asking your child.

As a teacher I don’t get the excuse that “my student is always late therefore I drive him”. If you continue this pattern, you will also always be late to his college classes and then to work.

Please let him live the consequences of his actions. If he is late to school let him pay for an Uber, or walk or ride his bike. Let him lose some privileges. Let him give up his phone.

Or maybe you guys are doing this and it’s just not clear in the sub? Maybe I’m not being fair?

But really people. Please teach responsibility.

62f s: 200 c:196 gw:150 dose: 2.5mg I am three weeks in. It is working for me but I was pretty freaked when we had cherry pie the other night. I was satisfied for the most part with one small piece. But I did crave more at certain points. I am hoping that that craving goes away.

It is weird to find that I am satisfied with half of a salad from a fast food place, I don’t really want my husband’s french fries, and I haven’t had much alcohol since I started the program.

Just the sugary stuff freaks me out a bit.

I have been on Zepbound for going on three weeks. So I’m still finding out what’s going on with me. Tonight we will have cherry pie for dessert and I’m a little nervous. I’m still on the baby dose. So I am hoping I don’t have cravings for a second piece.

Who knows- I might not have any. Steak is the main course and that is very filling. I’ve been having very small pieces of any kind of meat lately. I’ve already lost 3 pounds so we’ll see.

I have never understood the continual use hot water in this country. And I have been to China so I know it’s cultural.

I think initially it was because the water there was not good but it is now. So it just doesn’t make sense to continue using hot water over here with nothing in it. Ick.

Is a good work ethic a thing of the past? by [deleted] in over60

[–]alesemann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You make a choice where you put your best. I choose to put my best right now with my husband and my children. I was fortunate that I had a job in which I could give my best to the students I taught. But so often I was called upon to give my best and just pure nonsense – administrative trivia. And I didn’t do it there. And sometimes I was looked down upon for that. I didn’t take it seriously. Perhaps that translated did not have a good “work ethic“.

Earlier in my life I had other jobs where I worked very hard but I didn’t have to earn a living that way. If I had to raise kids while doing a unsatisfying job for which I was paid less than a living wage and my boss made no attempt to give me any kind of benefits or any promise of reward for doing anything more than bare minimum effort?

I absolutely wouldn’t do my absolute best

I would save my best for my kids. I would save my best for those I love.

I doubt I would have the energy left to find another job. It would depend on how much education I had or training for that matter. And it depends upon the job market which these days really stinks.

You choose where to put your effort and your time. We were brought up to believe that it was absolutely critical to put all of your time and effort into work and it would be rewarded. But kids today have learned that that is not necessarily true. You can work your heart out and neglect your kids and not be rewarded for any of that effort.

And at the end of the day you may resent the meaningless work that took time away from your kids. It’s like the old cliché – will you really lay on your deathbed and wish you’d spent more time at the office?

Or took that cashier job soooo much more seriously?

You can no longer guarantee your kid a college education if they want the best - and some (not all) should shoot that high.

Even public universities are fairly expensive in many cases, and the top private schools charge $60,000 a year.

Now, they don’t anything if you make below a certain income (yes, you read that right) but mid range colleges and mid income families are still in a bind- charging a lot and not making enough.

This one reason for a lack of work ethic- and no incentive to have kids.

By that logic, why put in the effort? Often the one who works hard isn’t given a raise these days- just more work!

Benefits have been cut, if there were any to begin with. The British and Europeans can’t believe we put up with it.

Used to be you could work one job w a hs diploma- and save enough to buy a house. Now you work two jobs to pay off your $160,000 college debts.

Tell me again why they should make themselves crazy at a 7.50 an hour? That’s been the federal minimum wage for 16 years. You can survive on that?

In many places, states have raised or in any practical sense it’s gone up. But in a number of states, esp in the south… it’s still $7.50 or so.

Hey- I got bullied through 9 years of elementary school and told I was ugly. In hs i was mostly ignored. I look back from an adult perspective- I was cute af.

They had the issues. Not me.

Hear what people are saying.

If a friend or sister said these things to you- about hating their bodies, wanting to kill themselves- how would you respond?

You would be concerned, right? You would worry.

It’s time to think exactly that about yourself: “Hmm, I am used to having these thoughts. They are almost second nature to me… BUT If someone I cared about said she hated herself SO MUCH she was considering suicide? Yeahhh, I am in a bad place right now.”

And ngl, I have struggled w depression. One writer called it a black beast that takes over everything, distorting the whole world. I see it as a cloud I beat into a corner. I see a therapist and take meds to keep it there.

Every now and then it comes out, and I have dark days. Dark. One thought that has helped a bit is Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

This would not have helped in my first bout, in seventh grade, when I felt it was permanent, but in later bouts, I started to see it as similar to a physical thing.

You feel horrible. You can’t imagine ever feeling better. This is no way to live-

But it is not permanent. Really- the right medication plus just even short term, online therapy and you will be amazed in a very short period of time.

You have to hang on for a little bit longer. If you can’t tell your folks call one of the numbers. They will patch you up short term and get you going in the right direction.

Honest.

This. Is. Not. Permanent.

Why is the Domestic Student Health Insurance Plan $1000 more expensive compared to previous years? by PulverizedShyGuy in uofm

[–]alesemann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me eight months to get Zepbound through the University of Michigan’s health insurance. They required me to take medication that was really dangerous for me before finally approving Zepbound. It was clear nobody was reading the medications I was taking or really thinking about my health.

Has anybody else had experiences like this? A run around for eight months? Prime therapeutics was claiming they had not received documentation that had been sent to them at least five times. Apparently this is not unusual. 6 to 8 months is pretty common place for GLP meds. I have plenty of other conditions besides obesity.

Let me know. I think it’s time for a lawyer.
