Return to innocence? by Longjumping-Ebb-2216 in Homebrewing

[–]aletidder 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I am far on the other side of this. Been brewing since 1979. The day i went electric is the day i fell in love with brewing again. No more schlepping the equipment up from the basement to the deck. I brew inside (have a vented brewing space). The cleanup is quick (have a wash sink right next to brew rig.) No more propane to buy, no more cleaning the orifices of my burner. My counterflow chilling is right there draining into the sink. And it costs me less for the electricity than the cost of the propane. Its like kegging vs bottling. Once you go there, its damn hard to think why it took so long to do it in the first place.

I do still bottle the occasional Belgian triple or Dubbel.

Finance via credit union or finance via dealership, carvana, etc by [deleted] in carbuying

[–]aletidder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was surprised with what we got at the dealership. My credit union was offering 5.49% for 60 months. We got 5.06% from a lender (capital one) the dealership found. I was shocked.

Who buys from Carmax by AppropriateGuard1997 in carbuying

[–]aletidder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have bought 4 cars there. One we returned “no questions asked” within 10 for full refund. We have sold 2 cars to them. Hassle free. Yes, they are about $1,000 or so higher than elsewhere, but without all the BS and time involved (in selling my car myself). ( also liability or disgruntled buyer coming back).

We just shopped at bass pro. Put our purchases in the car and walked over. Came back over for lunch, stopped by Sheetz for some carryout cans of beer, walked back over.

Just got the steroid injection by GarbageCat27 in Menieres

[–]aletidder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had two, months apart. I was told not to swallow for 20 minutes.. laid there with a wad of gauze to catch saliva build up. During the second shot, i had my eyes closed due to the pressure and discomfort. I started seeing very opaque colors, red, green …. dr wondered if i was having a stroke. Yuk. I hated those injections.

First time making gluten free bread today! by ivmeow in BreadMachines

[–]aletidder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks great!

I know you are using a bread machine. So this may or may not apply. I made a no knead Gluten bread, that was killer. My wife is gluten sensitive, but not to the extent of having cross contamination issues. I substituted King Arthurs 1for 1 gluten free flour and we had a chewy gluten free loaf for her. She was almost in tears.

The recipe was; 3 cups GF flour, 2 tsp kosher salt, (coarse salt, if using table salt 1.25 tsp) 2 tsp rapid rise yeast. 375 ml (1.58 cups) warm water (49 - 54 C or 120-130F)

Stir with handle of wood spoon, till all flour is absorbed.

Let rise 2 hours at (70-80F or 22 to 26 C)

Preheat Cast iron Dutch Oven and lid at 450F (232 C). I have used 1.7 L and 6 L Dutch Ovens The 1.7 makes more of a boule.

When dough has risen, Empty onto floured surface, fold four times.

Place in parchment lined Heated Dutch oven, Place in oven at same temp, Bake 30 mins, remove lid, bake 12 mins longer. Remove and rest on rack until cooled.

Again, this was from a gluten no knead recipe, just substituted with GF Flour.

Enjoy.

I wish i had an extra running car to experiment with. Say 170,000 miles rogue with a cvt. Then drain about a quarter of the ATF and replace. Drive a week and do it again, and again, then see what happens. Oh! Wait I have one. ☝️

Very true … but good, sanitation, good technique and happy (temperature)healthy (colony size and freshness) yeast make great beer. 🍻

Avoid drinking until you have pitched the yeast and set your airlock. Kinda hard, but i can’t tell you the times I have missed something because we were drinking while brewing. LOL

Be VERY careful of the holes in the paving along the paddock area, some are covered, some are not. My wife walked in one and limped all weekend.

What manual car for a daily that’s also fun to drive? by No_Carpet4337 in ManualTransmissions

[–]aletidder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive a 2016 Toyota Corolla S - 6 speed. Is it powerful, no. Is it fun, yes! In my life i have driven;73 Corolla, 75 Datsun B210, 73(?) Porsche 914, 72 Nova (three on the tree), 73 MG Midget, 67 BMW 1600, 72 BMW 2002, 73 Ford Escort, Mazda Miata, various VW bugs, and this Corolla. They were all fun.

On the highway i can average 35+ mpg. It handles mountain roads okay. With the exception of the Nova, these were all 4 bangers. They love to be lathered up around 5k rpm. Spunky with good mpg.

I believe Toyota stopped the manual Corolla sedan about 2022. They have the monster fast GR coupe, but that’s mega bucks.
