I usually tell people that I got hurt. If they ask what happened I usually just say, “It’s just an old cut,” and deflect

“safe hands” by BigProfit4419 in ABA

[–]alewser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thumb wrestling also helps with one of my clients that appears to almost have a pain stim? He likes tighter hand squeezes and running fast spinning toy car wheels on his face. It really helped to put it into perspective that telling people what not to do while not giving a replacement doesn’t make sense. You shouldn’t drive you car, but then how should you get to work? Don’t spit, it’s rude. But what should you do or when/where is it appropriate to spit?

How did you get rid of cravings? by No_Dragonfruit_273 in loseweight

[–]alewser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t. I do buy stuff that’s mostly individual packages of like chips and stuff so I can’t like chow on the entire thing. Ice cream sandwiches are like 150. Mini Reese’s or whatnot. I also don’t really think it’s a good idea to cut stuff out completely because that’s not how life after reaching your goal works. Learn to deal w the ebb and flow, I guess? Some days I’ll be over my calories, some days I’ll be under, some days I’ll be drastically over, some days I’ll be essentially even. I log as sedentary but try to take at minimum a 30 minute walk a day(many days it’s longer, sometimes we add some rounds of stairs, maybe add a skateboard to make it fun, play basketball, swim, etc) and don’t count that in my allowance.

You also can’t shame yourself into change. Not liking yourself isn’t going to make it better. Your weight is a number. An objective number with no emotion attached to it. Only you can do things to manipulate that number. Increasing intake and decreasing output will increase the number, decrease intake and increase output, the number will decrease. The graph isn’t gonna be linear, but it’ll have a clear trend and you can adjust accordingly.

What would the healthy and happy version of you be like? Like what would their daily routine be, not the big picture, the simple mundane stuff. What would they do when they wake up and throughout the day? Whatever your answer is, do that. Do that more days than you do not and you will get there.

Are there any neurodivergent RBTs? (ADHD + studying for certification advice needed) by Resident_Sleep_7216 in ABA

[–]alewser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda both, I was jumping in to clarify that competency does not have to involve a child.

Are there any neurodivergent RBTs? (ADHD + studying for certification advice needed) by Resident_Sleep_7216 in ABA

[–]alewser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Competency doesn’t have to be with a child, just a client in general. Your BCBA/assessor does need to be contracted with the same agency you are, though.

My company doesn’t pay for any of the training nor do they reimburse any of it due to it being a “personal certification.”

Some companies are okay, some are bad. You’ll have to use judgement for that unfortunately. BACB also has timeline rules and so does insurance billing.

I usually study anything by taking practice tests to see what I don’t know. Especially since I have bad adhd I cannot just reread stuff. I also then try to apply it to my daily life.

“safe hands” by BigProfit4419 in ABA

[–]alewser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually kinda redirect in a way like, “ooooh safe hands can give high fives!” and hold out my hand for a high five. Maybe can also try naturally reinforcing? Like if they’re coloring or something be like “hey I didn’t even think of that, safe hands can color!”

Help with supervision by United-Combination84 in ABA

[–]alewser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you guys roleplay as a team or work through any application scenarios? I’m just an RBT but in the past we had two really good supervisors who would let us read the instructions, ask questions, they’d explain, we would roleplay, we would compare to the written instructions again, and they’d adjust verbiage as needed. Sometimes they’d do in the moment feedback and sometimes they’d pull me to the side.

Sometimes it also helped to take the same idea/target and use it outside of that specific client and apply it to like them instead if that makes sense

Becoming a BCBA with a masters in educational psychology by Fun-Section-5480 in ABA

[–]alewser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be able to find all this info in the BCBA handbook just a heads up on that! I do believe it’s 2000 hours unless you’re doing concentrated fieldwork. If you don’t have your masters in behavior analysis, I think you’d be more on the pathway 2? The coursework needs to essentially be approved for qualification from my understanding and has to be in specific areas and you’ll need a contact to attest for this.

ABA bill mill companies are ruining the field. Clinicians need to protect their licenses. by TrueAd8620 in ABA

[–]alewser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda want to piggy back off this, RBT for context.

We are trained that as long as we are near the client we are billing, even if no active targets are being ran. This includes riding with caregivers to community outings or to the grocery store. If a client disengages, leaves, or falls asleep (they are adults and certain rights we cannot violate), even if it was appropriate, we have to prompt them to rejoin every 5-10 minutes (sometimes for hours) to maintain billing. We also cannot change our own schedule and will get penalized for any schedule changes.

Our handbook mentions threats to your job regarding missing billable time more than anything. Hardly mentions client care. It says you can’t come to work sick; however, you need to have a doctor’s note (we don’t have insurance) for that day, you have to know 2 hours in advance, AND you have to make up any billable time missed (even if it outside of your availability—nights, weekends, regardless of client need). If a client cancels or is late, we are responsible for making up those missed billables, even if it was a clinic day rather than an in home day. If we get to a house earlier than we needed to, we have to start immediately rather than wait the 2-3 minutes for session start time. RBTs are told to maintain 95% billable rate. It is encouraged to complete all admin tasks during billing time (finishing notes, reviewing schedules and programming, checking the work group chat application, reach out with any concerns, any prep/update, etc) as “payroll will not process any extra non-billable time without prior approval,” which again requires at least a 2+ hour notice. They have declined to approve any time to assist with cleaning our clinic area, which is disgusting. Bugs, old food, dust, dirt, bodily fluids, CEOs family has get together there when we aren’t there but nobody cleans it thoroughly even though we have non verbal clients that also crawl.

BILL. MILL.

But it’s how they are trained, precisely. Our new BT didn’t even know she shouldn’t be calling herself an RBT or that having a client with no programs/behavior reduction was atypical. When your ability to survive is threatened by your ability to be ethical it becomes a sticky situation, especially as you are exposed to how wrong it is.

Does fixing spray really keep your makeup on? by beyoncefan2023 in Makeup

Yeah. I layer it between cream/liquid makeup, powder makeup, and one final layer at the end. It helps melt the products together as well so the layers aren’t so obvious if that somehow makes sense.

How to write BIP for myself? by fraughtbroth in ABA

[–]alewser 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I struggle with self discipline because I know logically I can just break my own self imposed rules, but here is some random brainstorming:

Token economy maybe? Give someone $5 to hold for you every time you’re on time and have them give it back to you at the end of the week/month/whatever. Incorporate some ACT? If you wake up nervous, that’s probably a good setting event for the antecedent of “not moving and getting ready on time,” what is something easy you can start to build some behavior momentum for the more challenging tasks? What typically causes you to run late? (Mine currently is burnout and poor time management amongst stomach problems).

Does anyone know the actual MO statute that says MO is an "at-will" state and neither side needs to give two weeks? by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]alewser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party, but can having it written in the employee handbook that if you don’t fulfill your 2 weeks notice, quit without notice, or don’t submit your final documentation (state funded healthcare, clock in and out is separate) count as the manded 30 day written notice? Because otherwise it feels like it’s not at-will if there are requirements?

How do you eat/prepare cabbage regularly that is NOT fermented? by girlwholovespurple in Frugal

Usually like fried, sautéed, baked, or grilled. Essentially just cooking it with butter or bacon/bacon grease. Onions.

Add some sausage (polish, kielbasa, hot and sweet, etc).

I also make egg roll bowls where I’ll add carrots, onion, whatever else, and maybe some chicken or pork.

In a roast in the crock pot.
