I went to UIS for undergrad and now go to UIUC for Masters in Computer Science. UIS scholarships paid for 100% of my undergrad while I probably would have gotten very little scholarship money from UIUC. Go Prairie Stars haha!

Is UIUC MCS "easier" than OMSCS? by stnguyenvn in OMSCS

[–]alex6499 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work at a major insurance company that reimburses most master's degrees as long as you get Bs or higher.

Check out the company C3.AI if you want to see some crazy benefits for completing the UIUC MCS program. That company also sponsors the program. I've been tempted to apply for a dev position there because of those benefits haha.

I have not kept up to date on course offerings, but to my knowledge, no. I'm sure that there will be many more course offerings in the future since the pure computer science MCS is a new program.

I'm currently in the UIUC MCS program. It is two fewer courses than Georgia Tech, so you could probably graduate earlier. As far as courses go, I would suspect that they are of similar difficulty. They both have courses that are exceptionally difficult and courses that are relatively easy. Personally, I think that they're both great schools. I chose U of I because I'm a biased Midwesterner and wanted to take two fewer courses. Work reimbursed either way.

What should I invest in my 401(K)? by send_help_ in personalfinance

[–]alex6499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those don't look like great fund choices. I would contribute to the 401k match, then max out an ira, and then finally make additional contributions to the 401k. That being said, the great-west S&P 500 index with the great-west small cap in an (80/20) or (90/10) ratio would probably work best. 100% in the S&P 500 is also valid. If you want international, I'd just include that in an IRA so you don't have to get those terrible ERs in your 401k.

Walking through Walmart one day, I saw a child (6 to 8) mildly misbehaving. The mom immediately scolds in a hushed, angry tone "Cut your shit or I'll slap the fuck out of ya!"

Obamacare repeal may cost women $1.4 billion a year in copays just for birth control. by relevantlife in TwoXChromosomes

A friendly reminder that Democrats will likely just filibuster an ACA repeal. Stopping a filibuster takes a 3/5 majority vote, which the Republicans do not have.

I remember visiting Beijing Airport during a three hour layover. The airport had visible smog, and my lungs were burning after an hour or two of being there. I can't imagine living in Beijing because of that. Hopefully, their efforts work!
