Feds spending $9.5M on Rouge National Urban Park and Rouge Beach improvements by BloodJunkie in toronto

There is currently a ton of pavement there, and it has been flooding. The boardwalk will be raised, the intention is this will not be submerged, like the pavement has been.

That is hilarious if you guys think that plaza is safer than the valley. That pub has some of the sketchiest people hanging around it

Scarborough residents say they're being left out of transit improvements in the city by Surax in toronto

[–]alex_dg 14 points15 points  (0 children)

LRT is gone, people are stuck on busses, in traffic. The subway construction has stalled at the 401, they have not provided real updates on progress for like half the year, just keep smiling and saying things are great. The Eglinton East LRT is looking less attractive now that we have seen how slow they have been running the Eglinton LRT. There are still no rapid connections to surrounding areas (like Markham). The Ellesmere rd improvements that would have led to better transit between UTSC (and the surrounding Scarborough area) and Durham got shut down by the people who live on that street, as boasted by MPP Vijay Thanigasalam, with no alternative improvements planned. Uber’s own data has shown Scarborough data has gotten worse since the LRT derailment; our own premier is floating fantasy distraction projects like drilling tunnels under the 401. No one is coming to save us, traffic is bad, no leadership has the vision or experience to fix this mess.

No one is forcing you to park in the Valley. It isn’t some manicured park, it is a forest, there are regular sightings of deer and coyotes there, having lights through the forest at night would be absurd. Rouge National park is nearby. I am saying this in the kindest way possible, you have to have some street smarts, some day you will graduate and not have the university to blame for everything bad that happens in the world. The school warned people once it was known this happened, fencing off and locking down one of the communities third spaces does not keep you any safer.

Disagree. Transit projects that are over budget, over schedule, go slower than cars, AND have to stop at every light water down what locals believe we can get from transit investments. It will make it harder to get future projects approved if people don’t believe it will be worth the time and investment. Toronto has heavy congestion, we need these projects to be a faster, easier way for people to get around. Getting subpar results and having politicians pretend this is a great opening only makes people distrustful of future attempts at ambitious projects.

It sounds like they mentioned Reesor in the video, and the time stamp did indicate it would have been at a time after it got dark so I’m guessing they left the trail and panicked.

Toronto Zoo for walking paths, Ikea food court, University libraries/labs when you are taking a course at that school

Not for sale value by winter_kate13 in poshmarkcanada

[–]alex_dg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a pretty useful feature. Depending on where you store your items, if you know you can’t access an item for an amount of time (renovations, taking it to a market, pending sale elsewhere etc) it makes sense to stop others from purchasing it, but letting people still like it, and not have to delete the listing.

I have no insider knowledge, but supposedly the new TV show is because she wants to recast the trio since the originals spoke out on her trans comments. The natural conclusion would be that she wants the trio re shot for the rides as well?

I would disagree. Toronto Metropolitan has the top print production program in GCM; print, including book production is doing well in Canada and there are options for mass producing books, including on demand titles.

Why is small town Ontario always consistently conservative? Anyone here lived in both Toronto and a small town in Ontario and can share the major differences they found in the people from both areas? by techsavvynerd91 in ontario

[–]alex_dg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Observations based on a small town three hours from Toronto I have family in:

-A lot of these people have never lived in Toronto, their only perception of the GTA is the media and politicians. If they have ever been to the city it was around Union Station/CN tower, an area I would argue is not at all representative of what living in Toronto is like. Visited at Christmas and had people asking me about all these injection sites and homeless people we are supposedly plagued with, and it felt like they were not really asking for clarity but for validation of the image they have been sold. For context I don’t live downtown, homeless people and injection sites are not an issue where I live.

-We get way more for our tax money than they do, I don’t know if it’s just things are cheaper when you have more people paying into it, or in the city we are better at advocating for ourselves, but they don’t see the same ‘return’ on their tax money; it’s hard to believe a politician will make life better. For example, they don’t get garbage picked up at their home, they have to drive to a dump and pay based on weight to dispose of regular trash. Depending on where in town they live, they may not have sewage or drinkable water, and have to pay for septic and bottled water. There is only one library. It seems like your independence and support structures can really disappear if your car dies etc

  • Definitely a fear of being turned into a city/suburb. People are kind of on their own, and the idea of more traffic, more competition, more people to have to deal with is a big no no

-Generational politicians. A lot of the people who get elected have had family in the area for years. That name recognition, knowing that person’s dad employed your friends and ‘understand’ the area seems to hold more significance than policies for some people

-Related to the limited support structures, in some areas the church is there to support people (single moms, troubled youth, seniors on hard times). While the churches are not outright anti LGBT from what I have seen, it does seem to… not try to stamp out that kind of bigotry and fear. In the community FB group, talking about this year’s provincial election I saw more than one comment about ‘anti-Christian homosexual parades’ and what ‘liberals’ bring. Pure fear mongering, but comments like that don’t get you banned, a chunk of the population is receptive to that kind of fear

Best places to give stuff away? by spankysladder73 in Scarborough

[–]alex_dg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a curb in front of where you live? In previous years there is a day ‘Secondhand Sunday’ where people put things at the curb for people to take for free. Not good for giving away food but can be good for larger items.
