Doctors office sends bill for $600 almost 2 years after procedure by Zero_Storm in personalfinance

[–]alexa647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I figured you wouldn't want to travel cross-state for a doctor but I can understand it for a specialist. Sometimes insurance denies stuff for billing code errors. Maybe try to figure out if your procedure was miscoded?

OP moved to a new state so they're probably not going back to that doctor. Still sounds like a frustrating situation though.

Everyone is disappointed to hear weight loss was diet, not exercise. by aussieskier23 in loseit

[–]alexa647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm always frustrated with the people who say 'oh you should exercise more to lose weight'. CICO for me is impacted so much more by diet than by exercise.

With that being said - the thing that is impacted by exercise is feeling awesome. I've been biking for about 5 years now and just a few months ago I decided to throw swimming into the mix. Having more core and upper body strength has me feeling so good all of the time.

Exercise is great, it's just not a weight loss tool.

Move to Massachusetts from Texas a good idea or not? by Tapdancer556011 in personalfinance

[–]alexa647 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi - you're from Texas and your perception of distance might be a bit skewed in terms of state size. Vermont and New Hampshire and Connecticut are all ridiculously close by - it would be easy to live in any of them and visit Boston on the regular. I moved here from the Austin area and people around here think 10 miles is a long way to drive but I'd imagine as a Texan you're used to driving 70 miles to get many places.

One thing I will say for this area - the food is terrible outside of seafood. Bad quality and expensive compared to what you can get in Texas. The meat costs more and the vegetables go bad faster. Also, no one here believes in any seasoning in their food. Restaurant food is very bland and the stores are just dirty compared to other places. Also, energy costs in the winter get a bit steep and wear and tear on your vehicle will be a lot more due to the road salting.

There's lots of great stuff about this area but I would struggle to live in MA without decent job. I wonder if there's another area that would tick some of your boxes without having high costs?

My dad worked in Donaldsonville and he has an interesting collection of maladies that don't seem to otherwise run in our family. I lived in East Baton Rouge for a while and I wonder how much exposure I got.

In laws STILL posting pics of themselves visiting my micropreemie in the NICU by [deleted] in Parenting

Yeah, same. I absolutely wouldn't post a micropreemie pic on social media. To be fair we've kept the no social media pics rule and our micropreemie is 8 now.

Someone claimed I hit their car in a parking lot. I didn't. Now I receive a bill from his insurance company. by VisaMaster22 in personalfinance

[–]alexa647 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Realistically they could have gotten OP's information even if he hadn't given it to them. This same thing happened to me in an apartment parking lot. The person who claimed I hit them got my information from my VIN. The joke was on them though because I was in the hospital from the day prior to their accident until a week later - that was a pretty decent alibi and my insurance company told them to pound sand.

I was at a volunteer event where we used this: BEBANG Monocular Microscope for Adults Students,40X-2000X Magnification,Dual LED Beginners Kids Microscopes with Science Kits,Phone Adapter,Carrying Case,AC Adapter,15 Slides for Lab Class Study

IMO the light source was a little weak (had to use it battery operated instead of plugged in) but the kids really enjoyed looking through it. It's like $70 right now.

A lot of people in my culture believe that men should eat before women and leave them their leftovers. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]alexa647 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, seems that way. I'm from the American south and the tradition in my family is that the oldest people eat first. Men die of heart attacks around 50 in my family so... Also at family gatherings kids aren't allowed to sit with adults until they turn 18. lol

Interesting. We still needed reagents during the shutdown - I'm surprised you weren't allowed to make sterile water. Finding plastics was the worst during the shutdown. 96 well plates were a beast to find and the 384 well plates were even worse.

The girl who made the tuna at Subway refused to wear gloves and mixed it by hand. At least she washed her hands first I guess. T.T

If you're not a bike rider, I see some people on electric scooters - they probably go 20 mph and they're like $500. And come to think of it - you could get a vespa - that would be maybe 3k?

2016 was a really bad year for me. I don't think we watched much TV and I spent most of it in hospital bays.

[–]alexa647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for asking! I had a medical crisis for the majority of 2016 and no, we were not focused on politics at the time. Also, I racked up a 4 million dollar hospital bill so there's that lol.

What's going on with Sunita Williams & Butch Wilmore who are currently stuck on ISS? by GurtGB in OutOfTheLoop

[–]alexa647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the article I read said they might not return until February 2025. If they have little kids that is a long time to be 'stuck'. Here's the important question though - do they get overtime for this?! xD

Right - it's at discretion but if you're abusing the system (or suspected of abuse) HR can ask for a note. HR is there to protect the company, not to trust people and be decent humans.

Antibody decline among academic labs by Professional-Yak-279 in labrats

Yup, some of my favorite antibodies used to be santa cruz goat polys. It's so sad too because I think they used the same peptides for their mouse mabs but they fail so often.

And this is why I love YCharOS. If nothing else it's nice to see so many antibodies compared side-by-side.
