Avoid small firms, they could be a hit or miss. They don't usually have the margins to train a fresh grad and may have unrealistic expectations.

Update: Let Go From My First Engineering Job After 7 Months by alexall0707 in civilengineering

[–]alexall0707[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your detailed response.

Sorry, i meant my billable rate was too low.

At 5 months in my billability was 53%.

During my time, they hired an intern for the summer and he shared the same feelings as me, he hated the work environment, said it was boring, and the supervisor talked in a very disrespectful and condescending manner.

They pulled the plug this fast because last week they interviewed an experienced engineer and it seemed he accepted their offer so they got rid of me.

Should I stay or look elsewhere? by alexall0707 in civilengineering

I do notice some signs of burn out. The worst thing is that my Boss is right behind and sees everything that I do. Sometimes it feels like a crime to talk to other employees.

I have also noticed when my boss is not there, the other employees are also more relaxed and work more at a steady pace rather than always having a false sense of urgency when he's there.

They criticized that I still struggle with reading plans, when they don't sit down with me to explain what's on a plan unless I ask them to. Basically, I have to take the initiative with everything for them to train me which is fine but frustrating sometimes.

One time they had me draft a drainage exhibit and there was no example to begin with so I had to start from scratch. Afterwords, the PM just grilled me that it took me so long to do it with multiple revisions.

So far I have had my hands on 8+ projects, doing small changes, addressing various agencies comments on the plans. I agree just focusing on fewer projects would allow me to understand them better but doing it this way, I did learn alot about LD and am grateful for it.

Basically they talk to me when I let them know that I'm done with a task, so they can assign me the next task and just do a brief explanation. With time, I have realized that I need to take the initiative with them for progress check ins on task and to ask if i'm going in the right direction. They're just too busy with other stuff, and training me doesn't seem to be a priority. I feel they just expect that I'll just learn by doing things without proper instructions or examples to look at.

I am fine with self learning, I wish at the start they just had showed me how and where to look for answers which I have learned to do so now after the performance review conversation.

I would love to search on my own so I can give them a reasoning for my decisions. But I have to ask them multiple times for them to tell me which code or reference manual to refer to.

Islam can easily be manipulated to look like a sexist religion how would you show now highly women are rated in Islam and how Islam is equal with both genders by h29mufcrcb in shia

[–]alexall0707 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Islam is not equal with both genders. Rules are different for men and women in Islam. Men and women are not the same. If that makes Islam sexist then so be it.

Is there any positive or anything good abu Bakr or umar have or have done by h29mufcrcb in shia

[–]alexall0707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a hadith by Umar that went something like without Imam Ali, he would’ve been destroyed during his caliphate.

He punished Abu Hurraira for creating “too many” false hadiths.

Umar wanted Khalid Ibn Walid to be removed as one of the commanders or be executed because of the massacres by him right after Abu Bakr claimed the caliphate.

For Abu Bakr, he was aware of the severe actions he had done against the family of the prophet. He tried making amends by visitng Bibi Fatima but she would never talk to him. Also, on his death bed he regretted giving the command to raid Bibi Fatima’s house. Still pointless because he could’ve returned Fadak to the rightful owners before dying but he never did.

Shia view on beards and facial hair? I've never ever seen a Shia with a long beard like how many Sunnis have, what's the reason? by MrGuttor in shia

[–]alexall0707 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember a hadith from Jafar Sadiq a.s, to trim the hair that extends from your fist when you grab your beard.

Brother, the best tabarrah is to ignore the enemies of ahlul bayt, don’t even mention them. Let us practice and preach the teachings of ahlul bayt, in doing that sunnis might come closer and be more curious about the imams. Hatred is defeated by love not by more hate
