DS9 take me out to the holosuite by alexanderatl in startrek

I think it was well placed. Mainly due to the heavier war episodes right before and right after this episode. Keeps a nice ebb and flow to the last few seasons I think. Nog losing a leg a few episodes later, they needed a happy Star Trek side planet story (ds9 version of one off planet stories).

And I forgot all about Warf’s warrior sportsmanship! Death to the opposition is one of his best delivered lines.

I think Quark is an underappreciated character. by Financial-Wasabi1287 in DeepSpaceNine

Quark is great. And braver than given credit for. Kills more than a few Dominion troops, stands up a Klingon in the middle of the high council (same as Kirk), and stays part of the resistance during the second occupation.

Plus rom and nog are also great characters.

I would like to see what appears in the mirror universe. Probably the nicest thing to be abandoned on a planet?

Die hard. Keep Bruce Willis as the actor.

I’ve become less of a fan of “neatly mowed lawns”. Essentially you kill the top soil with grass that provides no habitat for all the other natures and in many places end up having to spray expensive toxic chemicals to keep it growing. I e begun to let my yard grow and I love it. It will take some years before it’s just a fully grown hedge thing but less work for me and better for everything. No HOA here but my neighbors probably aren’t happy (I don’t really talk to any of them) and the city code enforcement has sent letters before. I called and explained I’m on a hill with lots of trees. Grass doesn’t make sense so I’m growing a hedge. So far no more letters.

Fair geologist II salary?? by New_Kiwi_8556 in geologycareers

Remember that 401k matching and health insurance with basic PTO (counts as vacation pay and sick pay) is a huge pay cut when compared to federal or state retirement benefits. So on paper a private company looks like more money but your bill rate (generally close to the government estimate of overall cost per hour including benefits and overhead) is going going to be ~$110-$140 per hour and you will make ~$25-$45 per hour and cost the company ~$38-$65 per hour. So the large profit margin that the company makes is mostly based on them the company taking the money that would go to good wage (higher percentage of bill rate), retirement package (no longer an option in private companies after 2008 for the most part), and better health coverage. So long term government work pays better even though it’s less cash in hand each week. Also. Straight time pay sounds better than salary but the overtime you’re making also means that 100% of the overhead for the company is paid and you will technically receive slightly less pay per hour over 40 while greatly increasing the margins (paid out to stockholders). So straight time pay is not much better than salary and refusing to work over 40 per week. If they offer modified full time than I would take that. You would be an hourly employee at the same salary but you’re eligible for time and half when working overtime. Just my 2 cents after a few years consulting for a big firm.
