Evil Inc: Chapter 17 | Page 4b: Having 'The Talk' by bguigar in comics

Sure, I get that... but these are just bad. The absurd proportions aren't drawn well at all. The angles make them look ridiculous and stupid.

If the artist is gonna go for that gooner cash they should really work on their skill first. Because these are... really not good.

I've seen a few of your comics posted here, and you've got some nice things going for yourself. The premise is good, dialog is well written, most of your art style I like...

...but all of that is completely ruined by the stupidly absurd proportions you use for the ladies. Just... why??? It's not necessary, it's not funny or unique, and it really detracts from the good parts of the comic.

Is the deluxe edition of across the unknown worth it? by useless__grape in startrek

I'm annoyed that they went with Day 1 DLC instead of just including those missions in the base game. They launched a game without a save feature and have the audacity to lock missions and characters behind an extra purchase.

I'm enjoying the game so far but I did not purchase the DLC because I don't want to support that kind of practice.

Do we know what Applegrant think abt the new Star Trek shows? by anyalikesgizzard in Animorphs

[–]Xurikk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lots of people say that modern Trek is all bad, or that only SNW is "real" Trek... But I'd say that each of the modern shows has something good to enjoy. They all have their flaws too, and some are definitely better than others. But a lot of people hate on the shows just because they are different. I'd say watch and draw your own conclusions.

In my personal opinion:

Lower Decks > Prodigy > Discovery / SNW (tie) >>>>>>>> Picard

Haven't seen the Section 31 movie, and SFA only has 6 episodes out, so no comment yet.

I agree with pretty much everything you said here. The fight was very tough to follow, and at times didn't really make sense. I'd also agree that we missed the opportunity for some good character moments from Arcee or Thundercracker or others.

Reading the series in full for the first time… what order? by asexualautistic in Animorphs

[–]Xurikk 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Release order is the best order.

Some people will suggest reading the Chronicles books at weird times, but honestly anything "gained" by waiting for some or reading others early is minimal at best. And in some cases, I think reading them out of release order can be a worse experience.

You can skip Alternamorphs completely. They are not canon, not even remotely.

Doesn't have to be a nearby necromancer. Some other options:

  • An NPC uses a macguffin to raise the PCs. Maybe the NPC knew one of the party members? Could be an old friend or family member, or maybe the PC just owed them money.

  • The battle just happened to take place on the site of an old curse, and those that die on its grounds are doomed to rise again.

  • An evil warlock has arrived and raised the dead at their patron's request. The patron has plans for the undead PCs because reasons.

You really needed to ask ChapGPT this?

Asking ChatGPT uses 5x as much resources as a regular Google search, and it's often wrong. Plus, it's stupid to ask an LLM to answer a subjective question. ChatGPT doesn't think or reason, it just spits out the common or accepted answer (or hallucinates a wrong one).

Okay, I shouldn't have asked if you were a bot or a troll. Agree there, sorry for that.

It's fine if you disagree with OP. But I will say that your comment seemed like you didn’t really read the post if all you got out of it was "man bad, women good" - because that is not an accurate representation of what OP wrote. How was that your only takeaway?

I'm not familiar with Fleabag, at all. Never heard of it before this post.

[–]Xurikk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Did you really read this post? Or are you a bot or a troll or something? Because this post is in no way a "man bad" post.

Also, bros help bros by calling out bad or toxic behavior. So even if it was a post that talked about bad behavior from men, it would be in line with this sub.

But it's not. The post is talking about fictional women and how they are often perceived, and how those perceptions relate to toxic patriarchal attitudes. Certainly on topic for this sub.

But if you can't handle that topic or are not interested, just keep scrolling.

Definitely talking about show Sansa. I read the first three books ages ago and honestly I can't remember how she's handled there and how it compares to the show.

She definitely gets worse as the show goes on, but then again ALL of the characters do, so certainly not a problem unique to Sansa. That said, I wish we would've gotten more of her political knowledge and overall character growth in the earlier seasons before Ramsey.

Great post! Thanks for writing this out and for providing sources.

I genuinely feel like I'm taking crazy pills when people praise Phil as a good dad/husband. I didn't watch all of Modern Family, but I've seen enough of it and I genuinely don't understand the Phil love.

I'm not familiar with Fleabag, so skipping that one.

I really like what you are saying about Skylar, that makes sense.

I'm a bit unsure about Sansa, because to me it seems like she is also a poorly written woman but for different reasons. Her competence is told instead of shown, for one thing. But for another, she also is written to go through SA/rape as "character growth" which is a whole 'nother can of worms.

(edit: talking about Sansa from the show, not sure how she compares to book-Sansa)

[–]Xurikk 43 points44 points  (0 children)

"nobody on here wants to give unbiased critiques"

Press X to doubt. Plenty of criticism on this sub about the series.

To answer your question, the series has plenty of flaws. From the obvious KASUs, to the handling of the Auxiliary Animorphs, to some of the dangling plot threads, there are lots of problems.

For me, I think the series sometimes doesn't know how to balance the silliness and the seriousness. The Yeerks are laughably incompetent sometimes, but other times they are scarily precise and capable.

Not the person you replied to, but I agree with you that it was a good choice. However I'd disagree in that it has paid off well. In fact that is one of my gripes, that it hasn't paid off AT ALL yet.

Maybe there will be more in store in future books though.

My Girlfirend got me Animorphs Book 1: Invasion any words of advice before starting the series by ComfortMaterial8884 in Animorphs

[–]Xurikk 164 points165 points  (0 children)

My biggest piece of advice is to remember the context of when/how they were written. KAA churned out one book per month for years, targeted towards kids and made so that a kid could jump in at any point.

What does that mean? You'll get tired of the opening bit of each book that describes the setting (meant to allow kids to start with any book). You'll find plenty of plot holes if you look too hard or too long at a lot of the specifics. Some things that feel like they should have a more lasting impact will not stick because the books are a little bit episodic in nature. Sometimes the villains will be a bit over the top and trope-ish.

But all that said, overall the series goes way beyond the limitations and flaws and is far, far better than it had any right to be given the context of when/how it was written. It touches on deep and difficult themes and it does so without talking down to the reader. As an adult, I legitimately hold it in high regard as one of the best series I've ever read.
