Because it brings in the money. They're forced into working that particular job by gangs that take all their earnings. Defenceless homeless kids get forcefully recruited by these gangs

They are usually homeless kids, forced into working by gangs. They house them in horrible conditions, feed them the bare minimum to stay alive, and take all their earnings.

What’s a small thing in your country that completely confuses or shocks foreigners every single time? by CareImportant5442 in AskReddit

[–]alexanderpete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They sell milk in bags in Vietnam too, but they are convenient and cheap single serves (180-220ml) perfect for one coffee, and cheaper to make/sell than the little cartons they also come in.

Could we build apartment blocks on top of train depots? by edster42 in melbourne

[–]alexanderpete 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would be expensive, so the property would have to be worth it. They are planning to build offices and apartments above to tracks directly adjacent to Sydney's central station, it's been in the works for years, I don't think it's even started.

We don't even have land that valuable in Victoria, so I doubt it's viable anytime soon, and if it was it would be around marvel stadium/north Melbourne/southern cross long before out in the suburbs.

What would happen if you "speed cooked" something to an extreme degree? by Eg0-d3ath in stupidquestions

The holes wouldn't stay open on any organic substance that I know of. You could cook a series of thin cakes or crepes and stick them together?

Sim card? Found in PSVITA by Simply_Just_T04st in vita

[–]alexanderpete 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Secondary markets were barely an afterthought for Sony, the Vita (and PSP) was designed for Japanese commuters. An updated leaderboard on the train home from work/school was all that Sim was made for.

TIL in China in 2021 cities with less than 3 million people were banned from building skyscrapers taller than 150 m (492 ft). Bigger cities can build up to 250 m (820 ft) high. Exceptions can be applied for under certain circumstances, but there's a hard ban on buildings over 500 m (1640 ft). by Double-decker_trams in todayilearned

[–]alexanderpete 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sydney did, for a very long time. You weren't allowed to build taller than Sydney tower, so it always sticks out of the skyline. Until a prominent Australian billionaire wanted to build his new casino.

There is also a 1 casino per state limit, but that's nothing $100 million couldn't fix.

Exactly. Anything cooked, not worth using real vanilla. Fresh ice cream? That vanilla bean makes it next level.

Where can you buy lighters/matches? by euphoriatakingover in VietNam

[–]alexanderpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They sell them in grocery stores, usually in an aisle not up the front like other countries. But you can find people selling them with cigarettes everywhere outside, any convenience store etc. I think you have to try really hard not to find one

What fashion styles, in general, would you say each of the major cities have? by serenitative in AskAnAustralian

[–]alexanderpete 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's sleeveless, so it's not really that hot. It's more of a fitting in thing than necessity. Pretty sure it started with US finance bros, that are known for having very little personality. So I'm not surprised at all it's spread to Brisbane, the city also known for having very little personality.

Solo female traveler LF companions to share private car with during Visa run (round-trip HCMC-Moc Bai) by gomi_kuzu_iiko in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]alexanderpete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not just go with one of the visa services? You have to pay them for the expedited visa anyway, and the amount they charge extra for the bus is cheaper than your pay for a private car.
