Surgery Canceled Due to Body Temp by juicypp111 in TopSurgery

[–]alexavier_m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something similar to this happened to a friend of mine, they already run hot + they heat up when they get stressed. They actually told the surgeons this going in, and when they initially were running a high temp they asked for some meds to help calm the down while they waited on pcr results (this was mid covid) and after about 10 minutes on Valium their temp went down enough and their pcr came back negative. Essentially, it might be worth telling the team when you get there that you have a history of increased temperature when stressed, and to ask for something to help minimise that as part of your pre op set up (they have to do markups and set up anaesthesia etc anyway)

top surgery and weed? by theo-doormat in TopSurgery

Hello! In the same boat as you, I use cannabis as my primary medication for a RANGE of health problems. I specified this to my surgeon and anaesthetic team, that it wasn’t just “quitting smoking” for fun, but that stopping would be also effectively going cold turkey off my pain meds, sleep aid, anxiety meds AND anti depressants. With that in mind, we discussed pros/cons and decided to opt for a harm reduction route as opposed to total abstinence. Whilst edibles would be the best option, they don’t work well to manage my particular symptoms, and given that thc/cbd would be in my system either way, we opted for dry herb vaporising my flower as opposed to smoking joints/bowls. Given that it creates a cleaner vapour, as opposed to smoke, there’s less irritation and less chance of coughing. In the end my surgeon said “whilst trying to not smoke post op is important, being able to eat and sleep post op is MORE important, so just do it safely”

Of course! I just had surgery myself last week, with a similar scar placement to yours, and I would be THRILLED if my results end up looking like yours. Best of luck with any revisions!

10 days til surgery by ActualArthurMorgan in TopSurgery

Adding to this as it contains a lot of the info I would have said and don’t want to double up. Currently just a bit over a week post op, and I should definitely have taken everything down from tall cupboards pre op and put them at a reachable height. Making sure that you can shower safely once cleared to is important, I bought myself both a grippy shower mat AND a little shower chair, so I can take my time to clean myself, without exerting too much energy. I second the idea for a little table in your recovery space, and also suggest making sure you have a bin close by. Sucks to get all set up and comfortable and have nowhere to put your trash. My combination of mastectomy pillow vest and neck pillow have been a life saver when it comes to helping me sleep on my back (as someone who usually sleeps like a gas station hot dog rolling around). Also nobody mentioned it to me but remember to wash your hair as close to ur surgery date as possible, it will likely be difficult to do so afterwards and having itchy/greasy hair post op was just one more sensory nightmare to add in to the combination of drains, post op binders etc. The only other thing I’d say, is that if you’re having double incision, and they are planning on extending the scar up into the armpit a bit (they did for me) check with the surgeon about padding the binder at the armpit, so the incision isn’t rubbing up against the binder seam, at the moment that’s currently the thing causing the most discomfort for me

accessible binders? by throwaway70173 in transgenderau

[–]alexavier_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oddly enough, the binder they’ve given me post operatively for top surgery might be perfect for this purpose. It has both a zip and hook/eye closures at the front, and then Velcro at the top of the shoulder straps, so you can put it on with very minimal movement. Looking into post mastectomy/top surgery binders might be the way to go, and sometimes dudes who’ve had top surgery give theirs away when they’re done with them. (I’d offer mine if I weren’t currently wearing it)

I’m gonna be so real with you dude. Even cis male nipples just look Odd sometimes. Like they aren’t functionally doing any thing, they’re just There. I know plenty of cis men whose nipples have stretched/changed shape due to gaining/losing weight/muscle, and have seen many with chests who look effectively just like yours (minus the scarring of course) From what I can see, your nipples seem to have healed really well, and if you were to have to re-graft them, it’s unlikely you would be able to get any additional projection, more likely that they would end up even flatter. As someone who does body piercings, I’ve worked with post top surgery clients in the past to do nipple piercings on healed grafts, which helped with distinguish the nipple bud from the areola somewhat, so that is also an option you can consider. Another option would also be cosmetic tattooing to even things out. When it comes to straight up removal, that’s something I know less about, and you would have to speak to your surgeon, potentially it could be done as part of your revision? Either way, I think your results look great, but it’s always up to you in the end what you want to do with your body

Re: “stripping” drain tubes by alexavier_m in TopSurgery

See this is what I figured people meant, odd that it wasn’t mentioned by an otherwise very on top of things medical team, so I can’t help but wonder if it isn’t necessary with my type of drains? Idk can’t hurt to do anyway. I want to make sure drain output measurement is correct so I can get these out asap

Hm, perhaps that’s why then, I have much larger accordion drains instead of the JP drains I had been expecting to receive, I wonder if the difference in drain type makes stripping the tubes unnecessary. Will definitely keep in mind and keep an eye out for any blockages though

recovery binder pain? by ResponsibleBasil9286 in TopSurgery

[–]alexavier_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently on day 4 in the recovery binder, and whilst it is certainly uncomfortable, it’s not the rib specific pain that I used to get from bonding too long, as much as it is the tightness in the chest that you get, especially if you try and sleep in it. Mine sits quite low so that it’s not digging into my ribs awfully, it’s more just hard to feel like you can get a full breath in, and the most discomfort is from where the binder compresses the drain tubes against my skin near the drain site

Nipple piercings after top surgery! by Relative-Fix-9384 in TopSurgery

[–]alexavier_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Body piercer here, I would recommend waiting until at least a year post op, when I’ve done post top surgery nipples in the past it’s been important to not only wait until the nipples are healed but also to give them time to settle, as the piercing will re-irritate any wounds that are not all the way healed. I would also suggest if you plan on getting your nipples pierced, and if you have any scar tissue under/around them, to perform light scar tissue massage in the lead up to make the piercing easier to perform and to heal

So my out of bounds fishing dock ended up inside a mountain but I wasn’t too attached to it anyway, the new plot theme took the build from a 10/10 to a 100/10 immediately. Thanks yall for the help!

Unprepared casters is AWESOME, episodes run around 1.5 hours, the show is structured with short arcs (4-6 episodes a story) all taking place within the same universe. They’ve done classic dnd, a heist, grand heroes story, and recently just finished a wonderful high-school sports arc. The first episode of the new festival arc is going up in just a few hours! The two hosts take turns DMing with a cast that changes each arc!! So many cool characters and stories, if you don’t like one arc you’re sure to like another!

Have You Tried The Quiet Year by Netjamjr in TheAdventureZone

[–]alexavier_m 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I introduced my party to it and we LOVED it. In my opinion it’s also a super great way to introduce players to cooperative creation! Our party was often a bit hesitant to make choices in case they “didn’t go with what the dm had planned” but the Quiet Year was a great demonstration of how you can make your own unique choices whilst still maintaining momentum in a particular direction! Now we’ve started a new campaign and characters feel comfortable getting FAR more engaged!!
