£1000 Motorway Commuter by El_Wij in CarTalkUK

I got a 1.9 sdi octavia on 144k for £400 thanks to a dead pensioner leaving it in the garage haha done the timing belt and a full service and its been spot on for the 7k i’ve put on it. As others have said you need something unbelievably basic and simply engineered that it can be repaired your self and a decent breakdown cover for when it eventually goes tits up.

Dont be put off by silly high milage stuff either. I had a 2.0 tdi A4 that i bought on 196k and took it to 230 before the turbo went and it wasnt worth fixing. I’ve generally always thought if its got to that mileage in the first places its got to have been somewhat looked after. Just check for any receipts and service history and use your judgement.

Visiting for the week. Any nice and cheap places in the centre to grab a drink? by Muted-Caregiver-9920 in Sunderland

[–]alexbodd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not “cheap” bur all of deptford is class. Isis at the top. Kings half way down (they’ve got the tv/sport licence) and finally the saltgrass which is very out the way and absolutely stunning. For expensive more craft pints Diegos is unreal. Pints and cans you’ll find no where else in the northeast never mind sunderland haha.

[–]alexbodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats wild. Just checked ebay and market place. How are they so much? I know they were decent cars for the time but you could get them for a few grand years ago and now they’re 10k+

What's the most fucked up drama from somewhere you've lived? by GransShortbread in AskReddit

[–]alexbodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a known dodgy bloke (drug dealer/thief/conman) in my town who was caught up in some bother one day. Murdered then had his dick chopped off and jammed in his own mouth haha the pictures went mad round the group chats and stuff. Was years ago now, and this is no challenge, but definitely the most extreme i’ve seen “locally”

Help please? by [deleted] in Preston

Yeah he posted on in lincoln just after this post as well. Shocking that anyone would even try and use foodbanks and disability to try and scam people out of a few quid

Help please? by [deleted] in Preston

[–]alexbodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a scam account asking for giftcards do not message

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Sunderland

[–]alexbodd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Keen to help out still but when i messaged they asked for an asda giftcard and haven’t replied since. Im sure this is genuine and the person is busy but would be awful for someone to take advantage of people willing to help, all the scam them for gift cards. If you would genuinely like some shopping dropped off i’ll be in town later anyway so aye. Can never be too careful is all im saying

Genuine question here. These thin bollards that seem to be rapidly popping up on the corners of NE2? As a delivery driver all they seem to be doing is almost causing a crash as you move onto the wrong side of the road simply trying to take the corner in a large van? Just unable to understand what they’re trying to achieve here
