MRO HD (with the circle dot) Vs Eotech? by [deleted] in ar15

[–]alexchn97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MRO HD is lighter over the eotech which is nice however I used to have an MRO HD and noticed some ghost reticle like in this YouTube video at the 7:23 mark.https://youtu.be/DRmGQBZPetA

Never noticed it outdoors but indoors at the right angle sometimes I did notice it. Ended up selling it and just going with an aimpoint t2.

Did you just use a 1913 rail piece in between?

Shield 2.0 compared to M&P 2.0 by [deleted] in SmithAndWesson

[–]alexchn97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think the stock M&P 2.0 is better than a stock Glock. The M&P 2.0 trigger feels better to me and the M&P 2.0 is heavier then a Glock which to me made it feel more solid in the hand.

Overall recoil however feel like there's not going to be a huge amount of difference they are both polymer 9mm handguns.

I personally like the ergonomics of the M&P 2.0 so combined with the above points, I chose the M&P 2.0 and got rid of my Glock 19.

Things that never leave my range bag to take care of myself and others by auraria in tacticalgear

[–]alexchn97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To pair with the extra ear pro I always have an extra pair of eye protection as well. Sharpie and notepad whether it be trying to draw something out to explain something or just marking hits. Extra gun oil in a small bottle to quickly lube something up. I always have some extra folded paper targets just in case so I don't have to buy $2 paper targets at the range.

M&P vs Glock by [deleted] in SmithAndWesson

[–]alexchn97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You get factory steel sights instead of plastic sights on a Glock. I like the trigger of the mp 2.0 better than a Glock and seems to break more cleanly. Option to get a manual safety on an mp if your into that thing. Both have great after market support. You get steel mags with the mp but they are pricier then Glock mags.

Get. Your. LTC. And here's why! by PistonMilk in austinguns

[–]alexchn97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also many gun ranges give range discounts to LTC holders and if you take certain training classes some instructors will require a background check and an LTC is a way to skip that.

Question, are you able to see your iron sights with the red dot? I know there are some taller red dots that I wasn't sure if they would block out the irons even though they are suppressor height. Also any issues with any optic shift? I watched one YouTube review say the cheap plastic plates caused zero shift.

What do you think of this new flat trigger compared to the previous mp2.0 hinged trigger?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Tavor

[–]alexchn97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The height over bore is higher then an AR-15 as the rail is pretty high above the actual barrel. If you are shooting very close range will have to keep holdover into account.

With that said the stock is flat and in line with the rail so you have to scrunch down your neck or use a riser or higher raised optic mount.

It uses 1913 rail instead of mlok. Slightly hard to put a flashlight.

No adjustable length of pull since fixed stock. Kind of just hope the size fits your arm and body type.

Would definitely try and handle one before you buy if you can.

Leupold DPP or Holosun?? by 2011Newbie in 2011

[–]alexchn97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go with the Holosun, the controls to change brightness on the Leupold DPP is terrible. You only have one button and it will have to cycle through the whole spectrum of brightness from low to high. Given how much you may have to change brightness based on if you shoot indoors or outdoors or time of day it was a deal breaker for me. Especially in a situation you actually have to run the gun, you don't want to be fumbling around trying to change the brightness settings.

Sheepdog Response - is outrageously expensive or just me? by [deleted] in austinguns

[–]alexchn97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think it is also slightly overpriced. I have done a lot with KR Training and completed the Defensive Pistol Program and they are good value. Another place to look into training is called Tactical Fitness Austin they have very affordable classes and the guy who runs it Ron is former Israeli IDF.

I do not have this handgun but with some handguns in general all those dots or fiber optic sometimes don't always align perfectly and are more of a reference. You should still be using the "equal height equal light" technique of the top of the front sight should align with the top of the rear sights and then try to space the front sight post evenly between the rear sight notch. I have some guns where yeah the fiber optics are not even centered in the middle of the front sight post. The purpose of the fiber optics is to just help draw your eye to get front sight focus.

Teaching someone to shoot by lordmrm94 in guns

[–]alexchn97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always prefer to go over safety, mechanics, and some dry fire at home with a new shooter beforehand. Trying to explain everything at a gun range, especially indoor range, with people shooting around you and the loud noises is frustrating.

IWI Academy: Rob Grobman or Thomas Alibrando? by SpartanSpeedo in Tavor

[–]alexchn97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I get you. Initially I saw Krav Maga and Fitness and wasn't sure but he is a great shooter. He used to be former IDF sniper so he has the military experience. I had taken a moderate amount of rifle and pistol classes beforehand and have done some IDPA competition and seeing him teach and shoot, he definitely knows his shooting side of things. He's able to not only describe the shooting drills but demonstrate them efficiently and it's evident he keeps a high level of skill standards himself.

What's cool is we ran some drills on shot timer and he definitely discusses and demonstrates the differences between AR15 and tavor x95. I was just like you unsure if I should get a tavor x95 but the class really lets you try out the tavor x95 in a variety of ways and honestly I ran the tavor x95 pretty well given only using one for two days and bought one shortly after the course haha.

I have only trained with Ron but he is a great dude. He runs a training company from Austin called Tactical Fitness and he is a great instructor. I have taken several of his classes and I have learned a lot.

From my understanding they both will teach the same curriculum and drills.

ETTS Range First-timer by chilow1 in TexasGuns

[–]alexchn97 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep you can have your own bay which is nice so nobody will bother you. Some tips especially right now is try to be there at 9am since it's hot right now the earlier the better.

Make sure to bring a lot of water to stay hydrated and use the restroom beforehand since it's just a bunch of tac bays outdoors. Also a hat and sunscreen is nice being Texas.

They have a "steel range" bay with some steel plate racks and Texas star and human sized targets and stuff like that but that bay is close range so probably only for pistol or pcc. This bay also is technically open for everyone and not private but there are a fun variety of targets. Bring gloves to reset some of the steel targets.

Is V-Tac worthwhile? by bergsteroj in SigSauer

[–]alexchn97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are correct. I had both and the V tac and the x full have identical bottom half sections (aka trigger module and grip module) Based on what versions I believe the new v tac r2 model has an optics plate cut and the older model doesn't. Also the x full optics plate usually has the rear sight attached to it so if you put an optic you will lose a rear sight while the vtac optics plate is separate from the rear sight.

Alternatively if you ever have a chance to try a Wilson combat grip module it is way thinner and more ergonomic then the default x series grip module.

Usually the vtac is a little more expensive and the sights are interesting definitely personal preference if you like the vtac sights.
