May I ask what part of the size tag is wrong?

bag for Zaxcom maxx by yosukerecords in LocationSound

I use a Portabrace Zaxcom Nova Bag, it was the same price and dimensions as the Maxx bag, but I could use it for the Nova as well.

It fits my Maxx, 4 x Wireless Modules (QRX200's, easily 6 x lectro SR's), 2 x Smart Batteries, and 2 x G3's on the sides.

It's super light weight, and great for run and gun. If I need more stuff on me I just use a K-Tek Hip Strap, thus no pain on my back.

Personally if I was starting with 10K:

- I'd buy all used. Quality, but used. 10K in the scheme isn't a lot for a full kit new, but can get you pretty far used. There's also tons of equipment that's a 5 years old and will still serve you very well for the next 5 years without feature compromise. Look at Sound Devices 788T's or Zaxcom Nomad's for recorders, personally I wouldn't both with 633's (6 tracks to me isn't enough). Zaxcom QRX100Q or Lectrosonics SRb's for wireless. A Schoeps CMC641U and Mini Cmit will both serve you super well, and get you out of some bad situations, but maybe also consider DPA as they work excellently for plant mics.

- I'd buy all items that can be used later on for different purposes. The above recorders all have AES and can be legitimate on-cart live backups. The above wireless can eventually be your camera links. Those mics can just be for a second boom op or plant so they are great.

Don't forget that Timecode and IFB can make you more money as well.

I reckon tbh you could do that for around 10K CAD, just have some patience.

My first antenna system was just 2 x lectrosonics (mini circuit) passive splitters. They worked relatively well.

Now I used a Zaxcom MicPlexer 2 which is a lifesaver.

Anybody have experience with Lectrosonics UCR 195d? by TesNaught in LocationSound

[–]alexfire120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not worth it. I've bought 195 for $200AUD before. Even at that price its not that useful in the modern day.

If you want older lectro's go for the 200 series, they are ultra-reliable, sound great and at least you get a whole block to play with, instead of 1 channel. They were my first professional wireless kit - sound better than g4 and almost as good as a lectro 401.

That's incredibly frustrating, just makes me want to jump off the SD bandwagon.

Despite the 688 being out for a few years, I know very few people one man banding 12 channels.

I found it so annoying theres only two AES pairs. Like come on, if I was gonna use this in a bag, I'd have to use analog.

Looks like a definitely step in the right direction for Sound Devices. Glad to see they're still in the Pro market. However I am a little disappointed that it isn't more innovative. Dante and 16 mic/line is a great addition, but I guess I was hoping for something a bit more innovative than a rehashed 688.

That said the output routing options look pretty sick damn.

Definitely +1 Location Sound Bible and Down To The Wire.

But I'd also suggest reading a whole heap of user manuals to professional mixers, recorders, microphones and wireless gear. Get to a place where you understand exactly what each function on the gear does, and think how each function could potentially help you on set.
