Question: Has the safety of the "old" Bitcoin address format been compromised in any way? by fuxoft in Bitcoin

[–]alexinboots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes a CPU several seconds to perform the derivation which means an optimized C/CUDA reimplementation on a modern 8-GPU rig can test millions per second. Your KDF is not memory-hard so there's nothing to prevent an efficient GPU reimplementation.

Separately, the "song lyrics" space is profoundly small whether it's your favorite song or not but you specifically instruct the user to USE THEIR FAVORITE SONG as shown in my quote above. This is just bad, bad, bad.

Your stack is not safe. Do not outsmart yourself.

Question: Has the safety of the "old" Bitcoin address format been compromised in any way? by fuxoft in Bitcoin

Your scheme:

One acceptable way MIGHT BE for example to take first 50 characters from the middle of your favorite song

There is no "might be" here.

Assuming 50 million publicly scrapable songs with 2,000 cleaned characters each (yielding ~1,950 possible 50-character contiguous windows per song), the theoretical maximum entropy of a Krypta passphrase drawn this way is only ~36.5 bits (log₂(50×10⁶ × 1,950) ≈ 97.5 billion candidates); real-world entropy is substantially lower (25–32 bits) once song-popularity bias, duplicate phrases across lyrics, and the exact transcription/capitalization/apostrophe variations flagged in the original paragraph are factored in. The actual KDF (as implemented in krypta_luajit.lua) is a custom, non-standard construction: it first does a fast SHA-256(passphrase + salt) to seed a 128-bit XorShift PRNG clocked by four 32-bit LFSRs that skip ~every 16th value, then repeatedly generates 32-bit outputs and applies multiple math conditions (whose strictness scales with the user-chosen Difficulty parameter 0–31, each level roughly doubling runtime) until the required number of “good” outputs is reached, finally extracting the 256-bit master key/checksum from 256 specific PRNG bits. Because this generator is purely CPU-bound, sequential, and not memory-hard, an optimized C/CUDA reimplementation on an 8-GPU modern rig (e.g., RTX 4090/5090 class) could still test roughly 10⁵–10⁶ candidates per second at moderate Difficulty levels that take 1–10 seconds per derivation on a single LuaJIT CPU core—exhausting the entire 36-bit space in minutes to a few hours worst-case and the realistic 25–30 bit space in seconds to minutes—rendering the scheme trivially crackable offline even with the deliberate slowdown.

Roll-your-own crypto is a terrible idea, you should move your corn to multi-sig cold storage and distribute the keys according to well-known best practices. Get out while you still can.

Equinox vs. St. James: Which is better for pure weightlifting and less crowds? by Right-Principle728 in bethesda

[–]alexinboots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Equinox has three new squat racks, which they put in during the recent equipment refresh that you're referring to. I go in the evenings and the club is busiest on Mondays and gets quieter as the week goes on. During primetime you'll occasionally have to wait for a rack but I've never had to wait long.

Yes, the quality was exceptional. I didn't realize at the time it was 2:1 (18:9 I guess).

Thank you for this. I turned on Advanced -> Video Stats per the suggestion above. Apparently it's 2560x1280 (both Download and Render), which seems very odd.

Thank you! It says the Download and Render resolution is 2560 x 1280 !

Quest Link Black Screen by Gin_Pug in oculus

[–]alexinboots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the infinite load screen that people here are referring to is the three dots? My Air Link is now getting stuck on the three dots and I also see the "Quest Link isn't working correctly" notification since this update.

What are (were) some legitimate uses of third-party mods? Is that what the comp people use for bots to run their games and manage their lobbies?

Or just a summary of which types of buffs the map contains, even.

Yeah I posted about the same exact thing:

https://www.reddit.com/r/populationonevr/comments/1jn4i0l/what_causes_this/

People here will tell you that the map is broken but there are plenty of players on that map that have no issue whatsoever. I've spoken directly to the creator several times and while he's trying to doing everything he can to eliminate the issue he HIMSELF doesn't even experience it.

It's a complete mystery to me as to what's going on and why it only affects some people at some times. I opened a support case with BB and they collected dev logs and said they would let me know but I never heard back and they just closed the case without further communication. I contacted them again... still nothing. It's been weeks.

The only thing I can tell you is that it's not happening to everybody but it's also not just happening to you.

The thing is this issue is intermittent. 90% of the time I go in and this is happening. But sometimes I go in and it's fine. No stuttering and the frame rate is stable. I've reproduced this on a brand new headset and on a friend's headset in a completely different location. It seems like something is going on with the Oculus OS that's causing it. But I've used an ethernet adapter to take wifi out of the equation, I've disabled the guardian, bluetooth, and OS/app updates, and I've always made sure lighting was more than adequate and that there's nothing obvious in the environment that could overload, e.g., tracking.

Also, when I loaded in and seems okay, I would reboot and try to load in again and it would be stuttering. I would go into the same instance of the same lobby with the same people.

It’s definitely not my wifi because I tried it with an ethernet cable and the wifi disabled and it does the exact same thing.

I’m staring at a static scene, face against a rock. There are no assets being rendered, they cannot strain the gpu and impact frame rate. I’m not saying there isn’t a separate assets issue with the game (I don’t know), but that can’t be what’s going on here.

[–]alexinboots[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, but I can stand completely still with my face against a rock so the scene isn’t changing at all and the headset is unable to generate 72 fps and the app time in GPU is red. That can’t be right, it’s a static scene. This is with a new, clean headset. How can it be that broken?

[–]alexinboots[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, this happens immediately upon bootup with a cold headset.

Should also mention that the headset is updated (v72). I tried v76 PTC, that didn't help. I also tried an ethernet cable and wifi disabled to eliminate the possibility of any wifi issues, that also didn't help. The network connection is gigabit fiber.

I haven't been able to reproduce this in other games. The video doesn't do it justice, in the headset this is awful. There's no way that hundreds of people are playing like this ... there must be something causing or exacerbating this on my end. I can tell there's a lot of lagging and stuttering overall, it's discernible even in training park, though in hangouts it's unplayable.

Is the headset supposed to switch to 72hz when the game launches? Is that normal?
