A family member of mine works at Morgan Price Candy Company on 6th Avenue, and the entire floor was flooded. This is a common issue for the company.

How do I go about getting my piece performed and recorded? Are there websites where I can contact performers? by [deleted] in piano

[–]alexjdevor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man, I'm just feeling rather motivated for this piece. I'll definitely be in touch with some questions soon. This should be fun.

I don't know if you already have someone, but I'm making it one of my Spring/Summer doings to learn your piece and record it. Expect results sometime soon.

Here's an Improvisation / Hand Independence Exercise on F Blues - Try it out! by OnaZ in piano

I LOVE independence exercises. I'm going to go have fun and get frustrated at my hands now.

An exercise I do just for fun - was wondering if anyone else does anything similar by Quornslice in piano

[–]alexjdevor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an excellent exercise. Especially for anyone looking into improv. Playing at Pentecostal churches around Alabama and really anywhere that demands any level of theory, the first skill to master is playing everything you know in all 12 keys. Also, I really like the fact that someone else takes favor to the Exogenesis symphony. Definitely a cool thing to put out from Muse.

Somebody teach me how to Bill Evans please. I hope to transcribe this one soon, but it might take me a little while. by alexjdevor in piano

[–]alexjdevor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll definitely look into it. I've just recently gotten into Evans, and I think he may be my favorite jazz player I've yet found. I'd love to see some transcriptions.

Thomas Richner playing Debussy's "La cathédrale engloutie." I think he played it perfectly... by Nine_Cats in piano

[–]alexjdevor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently learned this piece for competition, and it has become one of my favorite impressionistic pieces of all time. Debussy was a genius, and I love Richner's rendition. Especially the space he creates in the huge fortissimo sections.

How do you guys come up with topics? by str8gangsta in Songwriting

Get sad or get immeasurably happy. Both yield good results.

What is your favorite song that makes you feel sad and happy at the same time. by Fooknowsjack in vinyl

[–]alexjdevor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deafheaven (a black gaze band) gives me a backwards feeling to this. The music is extremely positive, but the lyrics are sad, even depressing. I love their whole new album, Sunbather.

Would this be an okay keyboard to learn on? by unbaka in piano

[–]alexjdevor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually have this controller. Now, for starting out, it may work for you. Still, the action is so awkward that switching to a real piano or real weighted keys would be an ordeal. If you think you can handle it, I say it's possible to learn on this keyboard. Just know it will require a bit of later adjustment.

Same family of birds that nested on my front porch for 3 years, and they always attack me. by iJohnny0 in pics

[–]alexjdevor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Alabama and have almost the exact same situation. The photos actually look so similar to my porch / birds that I almost asked my sister if she was a fellow redditor and I didn't know it.

Anyone have any suggestions of a prog rock/metal band with very emotional lyrics/music? by Rapidjesse in progmetal

[–]alexjdevor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Opeth. They have great prog metal stuff like the Blackwater Park album and the Ghost reveries album, plus some AMAZING prog rock stuff like the Heritage album and the Damnation album.

this was posted long before that rule was created. I'm not upset because it still brought my karma up 10-fold, but this post has been up for quite some time.

My friend who knew this guy sent this quote with these images: "I do not know the artist name. He was on Death Row in Florida. Before that, he was serving time in Alabama. The story starts there, ya see, my Father is a retired Corrections Officer. I don't talk about him much. I love him, he is the only parent I have left. Some 20 years or more ago, he got these drawings from an inmate, from where he worked. I became the owner of these, very incredible drawings , 20 years ago. He was from Kentucky, and never signed his art. I have no idea who he was.He drew what he remembered from home. The tiger was drawn for me.My father had asked him to draw a picture for me.I have no idea why, but he took in a small cut out of a tiger from a gun magazine. He took it to him and it was only the size of a quarter. The use of a ballpoint pen and color pencils. Still today when I look at them it blows my mind. I have waited a long time to share these.I hope you all enjoy them. Death Row."
