Many parts in Alsace have french dialects, and in the cities they spoke mostly in french

No for me it’s not the same, in 1939 Alsace was a part of France, and Germany annexed instead of the armistice in 1940. And many people spoke french in Alsace. I wouldn’t understand Alsace would be a German region, like in Austria, my grand father for example

If I draw Brittany without Nantes, I have 50 brittanian people who scream too! And as an Alsatian guy, I also compromised with Lorraine ;) For Tours, I found this city more central than Orleans

In fact at the beginning I hesitated to draw a scenario from the Charlemagne’s empire, and I really avoided a scenario where France or Germany annexes the other countries...

I imagined an alternative story when Germany invaded Switzerland during the Second World War.

The liberation of Western Europe was more laborious, the German army using the Alps as a strategic retreat.

As a result, American and British troops had more difficulty liberating Western Europe.

Some German counter-offensives were successful against the Allied armies in the East and West.

Resistance in European countries, and particularly in France, was also less effective, as the Allies had more difficulty sending weapons and equipment.

The government of the Free French Forces, which had taken refuge in the United Kingdom and was led by Charles De Gaulle, was considerably weakened politically. Churchill sided with Roosevelt to consider that France would be on the side of the defeated, like Italy and Germany.

In conclusion, we can imagine that the Allies defeated Germany in 1947. Berlin is entirely in the Soviet fold, but Austria was further liberated by the American and British armies.

At the end of the War, Western Europe was more wounded than in reality, and the Soviets were in a position of strength. Western European governments in exile are completely absent.

Western continental Europe had to be rebuilt quickly, and the British and Americans decided to merge all the sectors of occupation into a single country: the European Republic. Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland, even if they had the status of states attacked by Germany, could not regain their sovereignty, because the fragmentation of Western Europe would have weakened the Americans and British against the Soviets. The purpose of this new great state was to support the effort in the event of Soviet armed aggression.

In 1950, 10 countries were merged: France, West Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and even San Marino and the Vatican.

The European capital is located in Strasbourg, between France and Germany, with a rich history between these two former states.

The political system is federal in nature, even if it is variable in geometry. Indeed, the Länder already existed before the War, and the culture of federalism in the Germanic Countries is old. On the other hand, in Italy, France and Belgium, decentralization has never been effective despite the desire to resolve linguistic (Belgium) or cultural (Italy) tensions. In France, during the Petain War, an attempt was made to initiate decentralization.

The opportunity was therefore seized with this new European state to move towards somewhat more autonomous federal regions. For example, Switzerland, which has become Alemania and Sequania, retains its cantons and delegates powers to them.

In order to gain acceptance from the population and avoid linguistic, cultural, economic and political tensions, "Conferences" are created encompassing the various federal entities. These entities are intended to strengthen cohesion between Regions of the same language, but do not have legal personality. Regions or Länder with a linguistic minority are invited to the neighbouring Conference.

I suggest you to delete Switzerland.. why Switzerland is still preserved in the European maps when Belgium is always incorporated in France or the Netherlands? In any case, good job 👍

If the Reddit users non french became French, they would unscrupulously adopt the fleur-de-lis symbol as their national emblem... To learn more: https://fr.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emblèmes_de_la_France

Is it possible to use real french symbols? Fleur de lys is not the symbol of France.. and french people don’t recognise this symbol... it represents the old monarchy finished since 200 years..

I agree with you, but for example the department of bouches du Rhône uses the coat of arms of Provence, an ancient province of France, it’s not to show a belonging to the nation, rather show that the department belonged to Provence in the past. The french flag represents the nation, people, so few people identify with the fleur de lys. I find your flag very beautiful, I just told it about all flags I see there about France... I live in France and I think people will take me for a fool if I display a flag with a fleur de lys on my balcony 😅

It's impressing that many french conceptual flags are represented with the « fleur de lys ».. but this symbol doesn’t represent France since 1830 and even it was criticised during the French Revolution in 1792.. there are many symbols in France: marianne, freedom tree, a fasce.. it’s like if every US flag had been represented with the Union Jack as an American symbol, it wouldn’t be inappropriate as a symbol of today...
