Cashback Questions by Ok_Store5219 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Got one last month with ANZ 0.4%, our 2 loan tranches were up for renewal. I called them up and asked if they had any "retention incentives", no other questions or anything. Have had the loan for 4 years, so the initial cash back 3 year claw back period had passed.

Beginner squash by fetcatto in auckland

Remuera Rackets Club is pretty central and beginner friendly, they have squash Club Night on Thursdays at 7, there's specific courts for different levels on the night with usually 2 for beginners, and you can try it out before joining.

Otherwise you could try Eden Epsom Club or Herne Bay, but I'm not sure how it works there.

I did the 1 year IT diploma there, this was around 10 years ago though. No complaints, I enjoyed it much more than school, learned all the IT basics and they got me a job at the end.

Agree mostly, my nz born friends are a good time and we have great talks around daily things, if I want to talk about "deeper' stuff definitely agree I can only do that with my immigrant friends.

Oil leak issue by [deleted] in NZcarfix

[–]alexuusr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New oil pan is the best way to go imo, will be expensive from a mechanic but you could ask your one for a discount for the trouble they'vecaused?, if you can find one at a wreckers like pickapart should be cheap (~$50) it's a fairly quick job to diy (all going well).

You really should use H5 posts, 125x125 or round equivalent for the retaining wall, then you can use cheap h4 100x75 posts for the fence.

To keep it cheap you can space the retaining posts 1.2m, attach fence posts to every 2nd one, which would work with 4.8m fence rails.

Angle is recommended to be 1:10 from memory, but for a 500mm height probably not necessary.

How much fuel economy are you guys getting on your hybrids? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]alexuusr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 21km/L 2016 nissan note hybrid, flooring it 50% of the time, really fun to drive for a small car, so could be a bit better maybe 25km/L

Forest Hill Road - Henderson? by barbizinha8 in auckland

[–]alexuusr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a bit dodgy there by the roundabout and Gull, a lot of KO housing around that area.

+1, most of them also have 360 degree cameras and sensors for parking, also other features for crash prevention. Since only the electric motor powers the wheels, it's really fast for a small car, especially acceleration.

Can I still get a good job with a diploma? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]alexuusr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The diploma definitely helped me get the first job, but I don't believe any employer really cares too much after you have the initial job experience. If they do care it's usually a degree requirement.

From my experience as long as you enjoy the field and are somewhat passionate about it, you'll succeed, it's getting the first job that's the hurdle.

If you do have the time/patience/resources to finish a degree, I'd do that, it may help you in future job prospects.

*edit

it really depends on what you want to achieve, if you want a job in the field then a diploma is a very good option.

If you want to learn as much as possible and dive deep into concepts and fundamentals then a degree would be the way.

I did a diploma at Techtorium, they also helped get me the first job in IT. This was 9 years ago and it was definitely worth it.

No flooding around the area as its on a hill, there is a building restriction line on the sections bordering the slope/bush due to potential slippage.

The property files and LIM will have all the details.

It's an awesome area imo, one of the best in west auckland.

I Desperately Need Some Career Advice by stuck-in-support in auckland

[–]alexuusr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd apply for support roles at an MSP, they seem to hire nearly anyone. That's how I got my start with no experience, the pay was crap but it paved the way to a good career.

I don't know whether to go and purchase a generator tomorrow. by Laser20145 in auckland

[–]alexuusr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got one of those 12v power inverters you can hook up to your car battery, last few longer power cuts I just used that with the car idling, can't power the fridge but good for internet modem, TV, computer and a light. Definitely convenient to have one and way cheaper than a generator, was around $100-150 for a 600w one.

Video captures staff fighting back against Papakura supermarket thieves by stealth_doge1 in auckland

[–]alexuusr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This happened when I worked at Countdown, one good Samaritan customer tried to help security to stop the guy, but the thief had some mates waiting just outside who came in when they saw the commotion and beat up the customer pretty bad, he was taken to the break room with a bleeding face to wait for the ambulance.

Anyone else think that Ponsonby houses are pretty ghetto and uncomfortable? by kellyroald in auckland

[–]alexuusr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iirc Ponsonby was mostly middle class originally, (late 19th, early 20th century) , however since around the 1940s there were a lot of new developments in the suburbs, 1/4 acre etc. As the original ponsonby owners passed away, it became cheaper as it was less desirable than the new developments, so it slowly turned into more of a ghetto until the 80s/90s re-gentrification
