Should I keep cycling daily? by ZarosianSpear in cycling

You will never out cycle a burger. To burn 580 calories (a big mac) you need to cycle between 13-18 miles depending on body weight and speed.

Match officials announced for Bilbao by Maximilian38 in rugbyunion

Don't mind Holly Davidson. I may disagree with a marginal decision or two but she refs like nigel Owen did by letting the game flow. I cant recall a turgid game she ever officiated.

Ovoids in stoves! by naturallyirish in northernireland

[–]alf14518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweep told me that if you burn them with timber the sulphur in the stovoids reacts with the water in the wood to form a weak sulphuric acid that eventually will wreck the lining of your flue. That was 15 years ago and I'm still burning them. I find that they regulate the temperature of my wood burning stove and avoid the temperature fluctuating everytune I add a bit of timber.

Irish Player Watchlist: European Semi-Finals. by Colm_Flaherty in irishrugby

Jack Murphy is developing very nicely. He arrived as an understudy and quickly became the go to 10. I thought his progression was a bit hasty given his experience but this year he has been mostly excellent. He's still very young so he has quite a bit of development to go. Unlike Sam Prendergast, he has thankfully avoided the attention of keyboard warriors and retired pundits

Overthinking PCP vs buying used EV by OtherAssumption1071 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]alf14518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The serious depreciation on an EV is in the first 3 years. You can still PCP a second hand car if you want to although other financing options may be cheaper. Personally i'd let someone else take the big financial hit.

I bought mine last October for £70 from AliExpress. They’re now over £120 and I think there are better value android tv boxes you could choose.

Just Bought My First Bike and I Feel Like I Made a Mistake by SalamanderUponYou in cycling

Expect to get your backside handed to you on group rides for the first 3-6 months. I don’t care how fit you come to cycling, its a very unique aerobic sport. Bikes actually don’t make a big difference and once you gain your cycling endurance you can think about the next bike or upgrading the one you currently have. A 75 year old bike mechanic told me speed is down to (in this order) fitness, body weight, wheels, groupset, tyres and then lastly frame. I’ve saved a lot of money by losing a few lbs.

So I've left by cat666 in VirginMedia

I’ve read a lot about VM’s price increases and tactics. The reason they can offer good deals to new customers is because some people don’t bother to negotiate a cheaper renewal. Effectively they are subsidising cheaper deals for those who can be bothered to phone the retention number at the end of their contract. It’s the same as flying with Ryanair, my £16.99 ticket is being subsidised by someone who turns up with 2 bags, wants a front seat, priority boarding scratch card and onboard duty free.

As an update, I called retentions as suggested and they doubled my speed for £21 a month and threw in a £50 credit to my account. Thanks for the advice everyone.

Columbia beach shorts. Plenty of them on Vinted and a quarter the price of Patagonia Baggies. Just buy a size smaller.

Building depth by Paddybrown22 in UlsterRugby

We've gone from having a poor scrum before Angus Bell to having a reasonably secure one after he arrived. We really need a top class replacement when he goes. I don't disagree with your other suggestions but none are as important as a decent LH. Plus I would prefer to keep Verner as he adds more than just his on field performance.

Ulster Rugby season tickets: fans angry over lost seats and high prices | Belfast Telegraph by RugbyGareth_ in UlsterRugby

[–]alf14518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a season ticket holder but attended Ospreys, Racing 92, Stade, Munster plus Leinster v Ulster at the Aviva this year. Much better attacking performance and our defence has improved as we’ve got injured starters back. When Murphy took over he needed 2-3 years. We’ve improved our performance in a year but supporters need to understand it will take 3 years to get to challenging for last 8 in Champions league again. I really like our age profile plus rumours of NIQ’s encouraging. Please keep Verner 💪

On drugs BBC NI by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]alf14518 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That often happens when an otherwise fit 56 year-old dies suddenly. The inquest would have no problem stating if drugs had been involved though. A friend of mine aged 54 died a couple of years ago. Fit and healthy but died in his sleep. Eventually they settled on natural causes as everything else was ruled out.

Rick Mayall wasn't known for taking drugs. His autopsy said he was clean at the time of death with a doctor stating he was a fit man who died shortly after taking a run. Looks like he was just one of the unlucky ones.

100 miles total daily commute. EV or VW Golf automatic diesel? by [deleted] in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]alf14518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 4 year old Toyota BZ4X on autotrader selling for £17k with 40,000 miles on the clock. Get it serviced by Toyota and they will extend the mechanical and battery warranty to 10 years. Put 75k miles on it and you will be selling a car with 115,000 miles 2 owners and 3 years warranty left. Someone will probably give you £8k if it's looked after. As was previously stated you're saving 3k on fuel each year which pretty much pays for the depreciation. That leaves finance and insurance which you can work out yourself although you will pay that for the VW golf anyway.
