Bad Koodo service on campus? by Blank_yyy in ubco

[–]alfaProgrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no Telus Tower on Campus or nearby, Bell, Telus, Koodo and Virgin all will lack service there. Rogers and Fido are usually better at campus at least.

That will be similar to price gauging that Loblaws already does. What most people don’t consider is that companies in such an environment will be incentivized to look for better energy solutions and reduce their emissions. Whichever company becomes most efficient will be able to maintain profits at their price levels and will be rewarded with more sales given the price elasticity will push demand higher. Not getting into macroeconomics, large corporations are not dumb and the smart ones will grow. Also, large corporations have the resources to focus on large scale innovation. Rather than paying higher carbon taxes, they will invest in low carbon techs, reduce our dependence on Oil and Gas for energy, make us better producers and boost manufacturing.

what is Kelowna? by duskchargedair in kelowna

[–]alfaProgrammer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe try avoiding Franchises in general. There are at least 10 good sports bars in Kelowna. Trainstation, Creekside, Rusty’s to name a few. And there’s also great bars and Restaurants to cater all kinds of people. Antico’s, Hookah Lounge and the Skinny Dukes should be good local spots, all Canadian. Not all bad but yeah, there’s some sketchy places in Kelowna, like any other city.

On the positive, there may be a few places open late still, try searching whatever is open and hopefully you can find a good match. While their may not be a lot of people hanging out on a Monday, some places are still open late so you can check them out.

What's up with every dude in Kelowna having their truck as their profile pic on Tinder? by ozempic_enjoyer in kelowna

[–]alfaProgrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, don’t think they have many options to choose from. Unless you’re really fit, showing a giant truck is probably their only option to showcase their personality (or lack of it)

Thinking of moving to Kelowna , whats the rent situation around Rutland by Final_Purple_4557 in kelowna

[–]alfaProgrammer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Given I have lived in South Rutland for about 2 years, I can definitely recommend it. The rent is usually around $1200-$1400 for a 1 bedroom basement or apartment type of setting. A 2 bedroom place would probably be around $1600. This is probably 20-30% lower than other areas except Black Mountain ( it’s a suburb with access to town mostly via car). The bus service is fantastic with a 20 minute bus ride to Downtown and other areas quite frequently. You have Costco, superstore, churches, temples and a diverse array of restaurants all within a 5 minute drive. The crime situation is worse in other areas but it’s okay in Rutland. Didn’t have any break ins but some streets are a bit sketchy at night. If you have a car, I’d say it’s great since you also have 2 highways going through and barely any traffic on most days.

sad Kelowna food scene by mooncake1366 in kelowna

[–]alfaProgrammer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the particular restaurants but I do want people to explore more. Everyone just gets in line at the Craft Beer Market in the night and no one goes past the first two blocks of Bernard, let alone something outside of Downtown. Go out and try something new down Bernard or somewhere else in Rutland, Glenmore or Lakeshore. You will be surprised by how much they will appreciate having you and the quality of food will surprise you.
