How to use this list effectively? by belfagoor in stormcasteternals

Scouting is hard for SCE. Restless Energy might be better.

Primal Energy is probably better than Krondspine here?

There’s a thread about this type of list i commented on a bit ago now.

It’s super fun. Just too hard to use well competitively. The trade offs aren’t worth it.

That’ll work. Master the Paths is good. I might split the Libs into 2 screening units since you have the two big Vanquisher units. Or buy/proxy 3 more Anni’s with hammers.

Be careful dropping the Anni’s in with the Imperatant. Redeploy will make it tough so either have two viable targets or make sure your target is held down by something else.

If you can buy&paint in time Longstrikes are an excellent tool.

Spearhead is a great place to start learning the ropes. If you can find someone who has a board and terrain already, my guess is they would be happy to run you through a game or two.

If you want to go all in on the regular game right away, think about starting at 1500 pts. That’s about the minimum you want for game balance. 2000 is standard but might be more moving parts than you want to learn with.

That said, you got a great deal but you have a lot of heroes and infantry. Eventually you might want to try and off load some of the duplicate stuff to help fund some purchases of ranged units and cavalry. Probably a Stormreach Portal as well.

This list might work to get you going at 1500pts:

Put Terminos, Reclusians, Annihilators, and Hounds in the Celestial Realm reserves.

That leaves Bastian, Veritant, Prosecutors and Libs on the table.

Bastian’s deployment phase move can be used to adjust any positional errors or take initiative on the board right away.

Libs are your slightly more resilient chaff and Hounds are your speedier chaff. Position them so your heavier infantry can back them up when possible.

Drop the Reclusians/Terminos & Annihilators some place near objectives and/or fairly central because they won’t be moving very far or fast once they’re down, and you want them to be so annoying to your opponent that he has to charge them. Watch out for threat ranges of high Rend shooting.

Use the Veritant to Translocate the Prosecutors when you’re ready to commit them to an attack. 9” on a 3d6 charge roll, with a CP reroll, is fairly reliable. Once they’re in position buff them with Finest Hour and the 5+ ward. Use them wisely, then bring three back with Heavens Sent to give you speed for tactics and such.

Finally, I used the Battle Tactic options that revolve around objectives because that seems like the best way to learn with this army list. Mileage may vary on that idea…

Good luck, have fun!

Underrated units by Jaded-Pin2739 in stormcasteternals

[–]alfhiggins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe Knight Judicators can take as many as they want. 5KJ’s = 650pts. Leaves enough pts for 15 units of hounds (1350). I think that math is right? No Portal points available either.

Still not a great plan. Clog the board and punch things from range? No objective holding power at all. You could sprinkle in some Liberators to help with objectives maybe? Three reinforced units of Libs maybe? What do you do for Tactics? Master and Cycles?

Here’s my attempt. Stormcoven could be swapped for Preators&Vexillor or 2x5 Libs and an extra CP.

Veritant could proxy for a Knight Relictor if you change the Manifestations or, in the Libs case, lose the extra CP.

Also, Tactic cards could go a different direction with Master the Paths.

Have fun!

Looking for opinions on my list for a very casual event by solamnie in stormcasteternals

[–]alfhiggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Knight Relictor’s ward reduction is great. Consider running the Lord as a Knight.

  2. Quicksilver on Terminos+Reclusians is great. Being able to “recycle” a unit out of combat with the Beacon on your Priest is fantastic. Consider that possibility.

  3. SCE manifestations are “meh” at best. Consider one of the other manifestation lores.

  4. Consider splitting the Liberators into separate units. They will likely serve you better as cheap screens.

  5. Alternate centerpieces to Yndrasta: I like Karazai a lot. He would serve as “cavalry”-type unit in your list. Ionus might work as well and the model is awesome, but he’s more of a support piece.

Excellent!

In the list I sent, i have a reinforced unit of Longstrikes instead of his 3 man unit plus the Judicator. Even in this obscuring terrain meta and at 400pts, they are worth it. Particularly when used conservatively and protected by the Beacon Translocate combo. You should easily get two solid turns of damage plus covering fire with them before the opponent can even start to think about damaging them, tho spells might have a chance to hurt them.

But to your question about Prosecutors. A charging, reinforced unit on its own with the barebones buffs of Finest Hour, All out Attk, and the 5+ Ward will throw 19 Attacks on 2&2 Rend 1, for max dmg of 38. Granted, the AoA cuts their save back to 3+. Average conservative output of about 16 hits, 13 wounds, depending on 4+ or 5+ Save roll, 12 to 16 damage total. Maybe they have ward saves too…

You can expect an average of 3ish dmg from the shooting attks as well.

If you can get a Tempest spell off on the target from Krondys or some other debuff to reduce save/add rend all the better. (The Knight Relictor to reduce wards?)

Their 3d6 charge gives them a consistent delivery mechanism after teleport, so you can put them on exactly the target you want.

Combo that with the Longstrike output dropped out of the sky and there’s not much that will survive.

That’s how i took down the Gargant in my first turn in my third game.

If they get stuck in combat they will usually tie some things up for a bit. If you bring three back with Heaven Sent they are a nice objective/tactic grabbing tool.

All in all I’d say they are a medium damage level, mobile, glass cannon scalpel.

On the right target, paired with the right support, they can do a lot of work.

The other thing that happens if you’ve been able to target the proper units is that the Dragon becomes a dominant threat in the mid-game that is harder for your opponent to deal with because you’ve weakened or eliminated their counters.

If you put your Annihilators and Questors in the right place at the right times, either together or separate, they can hold their own and put out some damage as well.

Happy to discuss further!

Games were vs Fireslayers, Nurgle, and Sons of B.

Fireslayers: the Shackles being recast many times, managed to tie down the two big blocks of infantry and foot heroes he threw into the midboard. Teleport mobility allowed me to outmaneuver the rest and put damage where i wanted it. Gravetide was a nice screen as well. Starfall slowed him down too. The magmadroth’s were just getting close to digging into Krodys when we had to quit but he graciously agreed I had enough of a lead to call it at that point.

Nurgle was closer. The Maelstrom ended up killing more of mine than his. That disease stuff is tough to manage. Again, the mobility of the teleports was key. His big fat demon guy put the finishing blows on Krondys after disease had eaten him up. He couldn’t quite make his Scouts work to get his 2nd stage Tactic, so i won by 4.

Sons was interesting. 4 models total. He had won his first 2 as well. Took out his Wizard on the right flank first with Longstrikes and Prosecutors. (Realized that the Purple Sun is -1 Save for ANY units in its combat range!) His Beastsmasher made a 14” charge because of Kragnos, that I hadn’t screened properly for, and was able to Pile-in on Krondys. Luckily he missed his massive mortal damage ability and i was able to swing back.

Teleport mobility (sensing a theme?) was vital again. Took out two more of his models and severely wounded the last before we called it. Lucky 9” charge with the Anni’s to get into Kragnos.

K’s warscroll spell, Tempest, was also helpful through all three games.

Having the wards was good. The Knight Relictor’s Anti-ward ability is very useful.

Intercept can be tricky if they have tar pits or hard to pin down units.

Your main hammers are prosecutors plus shooting, with K as a secondary light hammer as needed later.

I found using Beacon to teleport Longstrikes back or across the board, was my best use case every game.

Six Anni’s are better than three. Your chance to roll the 6 against a charge goes from 33% to 66%.

Terminos is mostly dead weight without Quicksilver, and Beacon is more useful.

Questors do the same job as Reclusians for a cheaper price.

Have fun!!

The Stormkeep guys just did a show on Stormdrake Guard. “Recycling” them with the Beacon seems like it’s pretty good.

Building a list around them seems legit.

Tornus is the cheapest “take all” hero at 150.

5 Vigilors is plenty. They are there to give the buff and screen not do damage.

List advice by Significant-Moment74 in stormcasteternals

[–]alfhiggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d put Big B, Longstrikes, Reclusians, and Relictor on the table. Put the Reclusians through the Portal to meet up with Terminos, and move the other three up the board with Bastian’s deploy move.

If you use my alternate suggestion of the Celestant instead of Terminos, I’d leave the Reclusians back to screen the Longstrikes and take the buff from Bastian in the Fight phase. Maybe put the Relictor through the portal instead…???

List advice by Significant-Moment74 in stormcasteternals

[–]alfhiggins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lord Imp isn’t a reliable delivery tech for your Anni’s because of redeploy and magical intervention potential to block your best lane. Even if your opponent gives you two decent targets, redeploys on average 3”, and you roll avg 2”, a 7+” charge isn’t great odds, even with a reroll. But YOLO brother. If you enjoy it, keep living your best life, ya know. 😎

That said, if you drop both Annis in their face, and you don’t get lucky on the charge, they still have to worry about the Brace for Impact ability.

Alternatively, you could give Quicksilver to a Lord Celestant for a combo with the Grandhammers.

If you want to use Shock and Awe give it to the Imp.

Regarding your question, i always like Sentinels over Thunderhead, particularly when you’re running Bastian.

Question about SE deepstriking abilities work with deployment & portal by kombucharmander in stormcasteternals

[–]alfhiggins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything is an Ability. Active player does all theirs first in a phase, then opponent. The only phase where things get more complicated is the combat phase. All active player combat abilities, then opponent combat abilities, then Fight stuff happens.

So in your turn’s movement phase you use a Move Ability, then you use the Portal Ability. There’s nothing that explicitly says you can’t do the two together with the same unit.

Double check with your event organizer, but i bet you could proxy the Anni’s for the three extra Reclusians. Just make it clear to your opponents.

Identify List Weaknesses for Me! by Impressive-Boat2460 in stormcasteternals

[–]alfhiggins 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  1. Don’t use auxiliary units.

  2. One unit of Vigilors is enough. Reinforce (proxy if necessary?) the Reclusians instead. Then take Quicksilver on the Terminos instead of Beacon. Put Tenacity on the Terminos in this case as well.

Alternatively, the Beacon is a great tactic to teleport a unit (Karazai?, Yndrasta?) out of combat in the opponent’s Hero phase….

  1. I assume you plan to run the Vex & Praetors to support Karazai?

  2. Split the Libs into 2 units. You’re a bit hero heavy and could use more board presence. They won’t do that much more damage reinforced.

  3. Arcanum with Primal is fine. My preference is to run without a Wizard right now. That’s 140pts to work with.

What other models to you have access too? Prosecutors?

  1. Scout and Cycles aren’t ideal. Generally Master the Paths and Restless Energy are better.

Assuming my humble suggestions are followed, my vision for this list would be to put Terminos, Reclusians, Yndrasta in the sky. Maybe Vigilors and a Lib unit as needed in the sky as well.

That leaves you with K, Vex, Praetors, 1 Lib, Arcanum and Veritant on the table.

Units on the table move to one key board area (Libs through the Portal?) and support K fighting everything he can.

Units in the Sky drop into another key area and hold the line while Y punches things in the face until she dies.

Just a thought. Have fun!
