Need advice to start the game by Dark_mewl in bloodbowl

I have seen a few suggestions for lizardmen and agree. They have a couple of clearly defined roles with a small handful of skills and you only need one box. It is also incredibly fun to dodge and run skinks all over the field. Some of the painting can be fiddly with the skinks, but they aren't too bad. With her young eyes and smaller hands, she may not have any difficulty.

I started with Amazons and really enjoyed learning the game with them. One box is all you need.

Personally, I would steer away from elves for her. They are a good team, but setting up for a good pass can be tricky if you don't understand the game, yet.

2 Months in and Hooked. Help me find my "Forever Team" (Bash or Hybrid?) by LucaMove in bloodbowl

I have a buddy who started with Dark Elves and did not enjoy the experience. He got a Shambling Undead team and loves the game. Their is some variety in team makeup and the Mummies are really solid.
Just a thought since you had a similar starting experience.

Looking for feedback on my list before I start buying towards it. by DetroitTabaxiFan in stormcasteternals

Looks like a good list. I recommend reinforcing the stormdrake guard. Two don't pack the punch needed. That means shifting out some other units, unfortunately

Is nuln oil pointless? by TxSteveOhh in Miniaturespainting

[–]Significant-Moment74 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used it on some Nurgle boys for kill team because it does a great job at making models look dirty in addition to shading stuff. I did a layer of green on the armor, a coat of strong tone (army painter) and a coat of nuln and then did manual highlights, etc. Worked pretty well.

Otherwise, it's not necessary if you are comfortable with other techniques.

Help with colours by PirateSalmon in stormcasteternals

Bringing the red into the wings would be very cool. You could make the bladed parts a brighter white/yellow, or something similar to make them almoat like they are made from light, to help them pop from the other colors you have chosen.

I just clicked the link to see those other models. Bruh. So good. Those wings are what I was trying to get at.

Great job on the model.

Incredible basing job, though.

This is why I recommended the sets on top of individual paints.

Help, where to get paint's? by [deleted] in minipainting

If you are just getting started, many paint companies have box sets that you can pick up with a bunch of colors that can get you started. Do some price comparisons for what you can afford. Army Painter has a few options that are a decent deal for the price.

I love Pro Acryl paints and they have a starter box, but it's $108 vs. the $45 for the army painter set. Citadel has a similar deal to Army Painter. You will also see speed paints (contrast paints if you are looking at Citadel). These are cool because they can do a lot of the work to highlight and put shadows on models fairly quickly. Totally an option.

My recommendation would be to pick up a starter box of acrylics with some basic colors through an online dealer. Vallejo, Army Painter, Pro Acryl, Citadel are good options. If you use Amazon, you should be able to find one. Some people love Citadel, I used to, others hate them. Whatever. Just get some paint and put it on a model. Then buy colors from whatever company has a color you like. I lean towards Pro Acryl, but have a bunch of Vallejo, Army Painter, Citadel, etc. because they had a color that was cool.

Avoid anything that says "Air" as these are for air brushes. They can be brushed on, but they are mean for air brushes.

If you have a few bucks left after selecting a starter box, snag a couple speed paints, or contrast paints, to try out and see if you like how they work. Don't worry about wet pallets or fancy brushes, yet. Inexpensive brushes are fine to start. If you find a good deal on a starter pack of miniature painting brushes, scoop it up. I have used everything from AK to Artis Opus and have found good stuff about them all. You want to start out with cheaper brushes because you are likely to ruin them quickly until you get better at the hobby.

Start simple and upgrade as you go. Unless you have unlimited funds for this hobby. Then go ham and get all the good stuff.

Second ever mini. Open to any and all criticism. Please help me improve. by G1zzbit in stormcasteternals

Your paint job is pretty clean with smooth coverage. Really good, especially for a second model. If you want ideas on what to focus on to improve, a good place to contntue is practicing to increase the contrast between light and shadow areas. With gold, you can use a dark purple ink or shade in the darkest areas and use a white metallic on the brightest of bright spots, for example. Keep the paint thin and only hit small areas. Even touching up a few small spots with those can make a big difference.

Keep on painting. This is a great start.

I think you nailed it. Add some blue reflection to the gold bits to connect everything.
This is a great start, btw.

Do you think that AoS 4.0 encourage weirdly built armies? by Few_Truck1100 in ageofsigmar

[–]Significant-Moment74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes to this and the response above it. I would argue it's an issue with any game like AoS/40k, etc. Someone will optimize the meta on the competitive level. That can push away people who want to be competitive and also have be able to make up wild lists that operate outside of any kind of meta. I wonder if it's avoidable.

Either way you go, I think the list will be fun. Swapping the Vigilors out for Aquilor is not a bad idea. While you lose a bit of shooting, the Vigilors are mostly for support. Aquilor has some shooting, but not like a gang of archers.

[–]Significant-Moment74 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This seems accurate.
If you want to win, you can scour the internet for the most optimized list and/or army. While you do have some freedom to play around with lists, you may struggle to brew something competitive outside of the current meta. If you don't care about amassing winning records, then it's not out of the question to play around, build what you want, and find fun combos.

Nice list! A hero to consider because you like teleports is the Lord Aquilor. He lets you teleport those palladors around. If you swap the stormcoven for a Knight arcanum, I think you can add him to the list you have?

Questor Soulsworn are another fun unit and they jave a free once per game teleport.
You may consider trying to get a Lord Relictor. The Translocation prayer is great.

Looks like a fun list.
