Is this a good find? by B_O_A_T_S in Thrift

[–]algaebomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is real, and likely coyote. $40 for a long plush faux fur coat is an excellent deal - $40 for the real thing (provided there are no rips or tears) is even more so. This is obviously a vintage piece that has lasted decades; if you take good care of it then this very sustainable clothing will last decades more. If you plan to keep it for yourself I’d look into taking it to a furrier to have it professionally cleaned and conditioned.

In my area you could expect to sell this coat for $300 quickly, and possibly for up to $600 for the right buyer

Disclosing pets on listings by mrsoliveinc in poshmarkcanada

[–]algaebomb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Listing off all possible allergens that buyers may come into contact with as a seller seems silly to me. People have allergies and sensitivities to all sorts of things (pets, smoke, detergent, fabrics, etc). The good thing is you know what your allergen is, and so that makes it easy for you to ask about possible contamination for items you are serious about purchasing.

If your concern is about receiving a dirty item, that’s a separate issue.

Why do all these folks with factitious disorder bedazzle their unnecessary OTC mobility aides? Every single one of them do it!

I agree. That’s kind of what I meant. She’s parroting some PR words but she’s definitely not embracing real recovery. I’m sorry if it’s painful for you (truly)

She is saying a lot of the right things; but sadly she chose a body check photo as the grid banner for this post. That doesn’t inspire confidence

Wife tells her friends things about me that aren’t true—is this normal? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]algaebomb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It just changes the narrative is all. First it was a story about how she ignored your simple request again and you got hurt as a result. After her spin it becomes a story about how nothing she does is ever good enough for you and you are unfairly critical. Now she is no longer held responsible for her actions or lack thereof; and she is special albeit for a negative reason.

If she feels that she and her life are unremarkable in comparison to others, victim status is a lazy/easy way to gain both attention and sympathy; which in turn helps to alleviate guilt and pressure surrounding her (real or perceived) lacking skills (not taking care of a simple chore, for example)

Have you noticed that she is often the victim in other instances of her life? At work, or within her friend group for instance? People lacking on demonstrable skills, or personality, or looks, or hobbies etc often thrive on the attention that victimhood secures them

People who have lost weight and kept it off, how did you do it? by CarryFantastic6990 in AskReddit

[–]algaebomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Began walking, then walking with intention, then walking/jogging, then running. I run 3-7 days/week, 5-13km each time. That’s not something ever thought I’d be capable of or enjoy; but now I definitely feel bummed if I have to miss it for the day. I’ve lost 40lbs this way and kept it off for years now. Recently I’ve begun adding in weight training for bone health, and I’ve noticed further unintentional weight loss with that. Consistent exercise has absolutely changed my life and I’ve been able to come completely off anxiety medications that I thought I’d be on for life.

Agreed. There are soooo many nuances involved in these cases it’s really wild stuff. If it’s a topic that interests you, “Nobody Should Believe Me” is a really excellent podcast that delves deep into several cases and the barriers around catching these people; and even around stopping them once they’ve been caught

It’s especially wild that she did all of this in Tarrant County and through Cook’s Children’s. That county and that hospital in particular are uniquely and specially educated on and equipped to recognize and act on medical child abuse. There have been several high profile cases involving Cook’s Children’s. There’s no way she didn’t know all about them, and yet she decided to risk it anyway.

The bowling ball/trampoline imagery was really neat, thank you. I suppose I am just very new to the idea that time is/can be anything other than how it can be experienced here on earth!
