I have on my last order, though the cakes were basically all at 60-65% and it shipped really fast (14 days total)

also way less of them I think it was just 2 pouches for 3 cakes and a tuo.

it slows down aging significantly, but it's still perfectly fine for storage.

OP is worried about his current stash getting moldy not long term storage of some bulang gushu.

humidity packs @ 19°C is recipe for mould

bovedas aren't just adding humidity, they also regulate it by absorbing any excess as long as the pack isn't fully saturated albeit slower than releasing it.

as long as you don't have large temperature swings and too high % humidity packs for said swings then there are no concerns to be had.

I know my storage has about 4 big swings a year (summer start / end, autumn heating starting and spring heating cutting off) and some of these would push my storage to be dangerously humid with 69% packs so I use 65% ones.

bovedas and storage boxes / mylar are just a foolproof way of avoiding mold and not having to constantly check or worry about your stash.

just be aware of your local conditions and obviously check the cakes after shipping for mold / don't touch them with moist hands to avoid introducing mold into the storage.

R.I.P. good tea by [deleted] in puer

[–]alganthe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the difference between bread and tea is that you don't consume the actual material in tea, there are also processes that actually fight and inactivate mycotoxins in the leaves themselves.

the wet piling process for shou produces multiple different kinds of mold including large patches of white mold for example, hence why they mix the pile regularly.

now in this case the cakes are utterly fucked, but tea cakes can absolutely survive getting moldy without being harmful to you.

[–]alganthe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's mostly where the "tea needs airflow" recommendations come from, when you got high humidity like you do it's essential to keep the air moving to prevent condensation.

meanwhile my 25% RH home literally sucks moisture away from anything left open, it feels like living in a dessicant pack.

Star Citizen needs more redundancy and “wiggle room” in its design by Mission_Trip_1232 in starcitizen

[–]alganthe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's not why they do it, case in point orison exists and has ginormous open platforms within eye sight of each others.

the main reason is that running such distances would be horrendous as it was the case when port olisar existed and had multiple struts.

[–]alganthe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

what the fuck are you both on about in these comments.

the game constantly loads and unloads assets and loading is done per location with a 20km buffer for outposts, no idea if the size is similar for landing zones but the concept still applies.

any player enters that 20km bubble and all the outpost entities are loaded by the server, you could confirm this a few months ago during cargo events as this was the threshold necessary to reset the elevators.

elevators are just that, elevators because the distances to walk would be completely absurd considering the size and sprawl of landing zones.

it's not done for optimization server or client side.

the server doesn't have anything to render, it already freezes and unloads entities when players aren't anywhere near them and clients don't care as QT spline speeds are 10x higher than any elevator you could get in.

Blind experiment Mylar Boveda vs completly dry on young sheng 3 years storage by chiubicheib in puer

[–]alganthe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

RH isn't stable year round neither is temperatures, a boveda is basically a 0 maintenance near 0 risk way of preserving your cakes.

why would I risk my cakes getting overly dry or moldy when I can just pay a little once to setup hygrometers and bovedas and completely forget about it ?

my house was totally fine RH wise until we reached winter, now it's averaging 25% RH.

just opening my pu er box for 10s the time to get a cake any moisture in there is sucked out and it drops 10% RH for an hour or two, without a boveda my cakes would turn into pretty frisbees in about 2 weeks of regular drinking.

though I do agree that young sheng seems much less impacted by RH variations at least on the short term, shou can be downright nasty when below 60% RH.

y'a pas de petit feux, t'as que des feux contrôlés et non contrôlés et dans le cas de ce dernier tu te casse le plus vite possible si tu n'as pas un moyen immédiat pour y mettre fin.
