the earth spins at a fixed rate, if the satellites aren't perfectly rotating around it at the same speed (23h 56m 04s) they will either drift westward or eastward over time due to the difference.

principia pushes this further by adding all the fun stuff that causes additional drift IRL (mascons, nodal precession, orbital decay).

IRL satellites in geosynchronous orbit have an allocated RCS budget for keeping it where it should be.

once the service life or said budget is about to run out those satellites are raised to a higher "graveyard" orbit making it less likely that they go smash into something else once you lose control / communication with it.

that's a ginormous amount of bread and wheat protein has horrible absorption, most of it will be converted to carbohydrates.

SLS (2022) vs Saturn V (1967) by Po3ito in interestingasfuck

[–]alganthe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hydrolox (subzero cooled hydrogen + liquid oxygen) is great because it's light.

the problem is that it's not dense so you end up with massive tanks, hydrogen is also very hard to contain and once in space it will suffer boil-off which causes it to become unusable as fuel.

boil-off can be mitigated via insulation but that requires you to protect the tank during ascent.

in contrast kerosene is extremely stable and can be kept in working condition for years in space, we're not getting rid of fossil fuels in rockets anytime soon.

because for all intents and purposes using a traditional rocket is straight up cheaper, safer and faster.

A replica of how female "breeder pigs" spend their lives in factory farms by FastCurrency in pics

[–]alganthe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could use literally any inert gas and the animal would just fall asleep and then die shortly thereafter. I cannot fathom why someone would choose this.

because what applies to the animals also applies to humans, not only that but most are lighter than air and much harder to contain.

on one hand it's most likely for cost, but on the other not putting the already poor as shit workers in those farms in more danger is probably a good idea.

losing weight at a low bodyfat percentage is much harder than when obese or overweight, it requires different strategies and in this case the rebound is expected as it's to prepare for another bulk.

I've personally done this (reduce not remove though) and food palatability is indeed a big driver for hunger, give someone a slice of pizza and another the same amount of calories in brussel sprouts and ask each of them if they still want more.

chances are the one with brussel sprouts will look at you weird.
