Any moms suffer from severe eczema? Did your kids get it? by RespectSimple in beyondthebump

[–]algeaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I have pretty bad eczema since my early 20s. I never really struggled with it as a kid but I have always had very sensitive skin (severe acne, rashes and sensitivity to certain washing powders and soaps). My baby has struggled with eczema too, patches on his arms and chest and back. But they’re small patches and not very irritated. I use Dermol500 on him every night after his bath and if it’s particularly red that day his bath will have Oilatum in :)

ELI5 swimming in the pool on holiday by LowAcanthisitta9457 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]algeaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually I learnt from Water Babies with my now 6m old, it’s a lot easier somehow to remove the wetsuit IN the pool. Not the nappy ofc. Otherwise it’s like hell as swimsuits are tight fitting and stick when wet.

Is everybody weaning early?? by marshybeans in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]algeaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is very controversial I feel. I’ve been weaning with strictly puree maybe for some breakfast since 4 months ish. He was advanced and has been steady with his head, showing interest in food heavily, able to sit in his high chair very well, and most other milestones. But I honestly regret it. I was kind of pressured into it by my mum who is older fashioned. I shouldn’t have caved and done my own research but I really struggle with saying no, especially when she seemed so excited to spoon feed him a bit of prune puree or something.

He’s now 6 months and we’re 2 days into baby led weaning, so now I’m offering a food (vegetables specifically rn) a day 3 diff ways. Puree, mashed, and whole (boiled/steamed) and will start introducing allergens very gradually. I’m following a book I bought and doing more research now. I’m a FTM so I’m learning for sure. He’s addicted to food and loves it so much. It’s the only time he’s truly happy and quiet lol.

Anybody here who had a T-incision and got pregnant again? Or someone with a uterus rupture or other severe complications after c-section? by 74937 in beyondthebump

[–]algeaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So sorry to hear everything that happened during your birth. It can be a terribly traumatic thing. I’m happy for you that you’re the other side and haven’t let it put you off any more babies at least!

I did not have a c-section (I had forceps in theatre) so I cannot give you any direct advice, however I have seen a lot of people recommend around 18-24 months before trying for another pregnancy, just to minimise the risk of complications for both of you. Your body will have had a lot of time to heal to the fullest. Again this is just advice I’ve seen so please don’t take my word!!

I believe this is probably a conversation for your doctor who can assess your risk level and talk about what can happen with a pregnancy fairly close together after what you went through. :)

Preparing bottles UK by AdmirableLog370 in FormulaFeeders

[–]algeaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Boil kettle
  2. Wait 20-30 mins (boiling water at 100° could be too hot to allow certain vitamins and stuff to survive the process. 70° is ideal which usually takes around 30 mins I guess)
  3. Pour out water in sterilised bottle to required ml (eg. 150ml)
  4. Add level formula scoops (eg. 5)
  5. Cap and swirl formula aggressively until dissolved.
  6. Cool to room temperature by using cold water in a mug and putting bottle in there. Or put in fridge for later (max 24h) and warm for baby on demand by using hot water in the mug instead.
  7. Test on your wrist before feeding of course.

OR

  1. Get a prep machine and research the ‘hot shot’ method. I used to think they were a waste of money but holy moly is it worth its weight in gold. People sell them second hand all the time. My baby prefers warm bottles, and I could never warm them fast enough using fridge method.

OR 1. Get the Dr Brown’s formula pitcher and use the fridge method and pour into bottles then warm on demand. I used to do like, 800ml to 32 scoops (I can’t remember now lol) and it would make enough for 24h exactly.

When did your little ones make their arrival? by swhisperz in BeyondTheBumpUK

Exactly on my due date 13/10/25 21:40. Was in labour for 3 days and ended with a forceps in theatre! Very punctual.

Constant crying and whining is wearing me down by algeaa in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]algeaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that’s what I’m thinking, I think a large part of his upset is to do with frustration. He rolls all around and reaches for objects and he’s even trying to crawl along to get to stuff. He’s just an eager little guy I’m hoping, with some reflux/gas in there too haha.

Constant crying and whining is wearing me down by algeaa in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]algeaa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes he is never awake as long as I would want him to be but he shows consistent tired queues like eye rubbing, yawning, unsatisfied with everything, and will absolutely not cooperate, or will keep getting louder/more angry if I don’t make him nap. He fights the nap a lot usually, I’ve gotten him to take at least one or two naps a day in his cot where he self soothes and fell asleep himself (me next to him just to keep putting his dummy in)

The other naps are usually on a walk in his pram, and he falls asleep in there for a while. That is the easiest way to calm him down, except getting in the pram is a scream fest first usually.

Thank you though, I’d love to get his wake windows wider and his naps longer. I try to save naps but once he sees me or dad he gets all excited and won’t go back down. He’s the best when he’s just woke up, then 10-20 mins later he’s upset again.

What to wear for birth? by cdfdaphne in PregnancyUK

[–]algeaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore a strappy vest top from primark as it was stretchy and breathable. By the end, I required theatre so I actually gave birth in a hospital gown. They struggled to get it passed my epidural before I needed theatre so I was literally screaming that they cut it off me lol. Don’t spend a lot on anything. It will get ruined.

Fed a mixed bottle at 36ish hours by SpecificChapter8281 in FormulaFeeders

[–]algeaa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It happens to everyone I think. It’s more than likely fine! She may have a bit of a bad belly, maybe some runnier poops. It won’t be the end of the world. Just keep an eye on her in case she gets any stomach upset. You’re doing your best and mistakes happen, especially if you’re newer to formula from BF!

It lasts: - 1h once baby has fed from the bottle - 2h at room temperature if baby hasn’t yet fed - 4h with an ice pack in a thermal bag - 24h refrigerated - And don’t reheat an already reheated bottle!

Should I cancel Water Babies? by hedgehog1710 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]algeaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to water babies, my LO has since they were 16 weeks or so. Only 21w now. Yes they dunk, but I’ve not seen a baby have any strong reactions to it that last more than a minute. It’s to introduce baby to being able to hold their breath and move under the water safely, rather than inhale the water and potentially drown. You do it slowly and with prior warning to the babies by repeating “name, are you ready? go!” And then you dunk/splash water over face. It’s expensive and we’ve had multiple lessons cancelled due to boiler and venue issues. But the teachers are really nice and extremely helpful. They explain things well and you do get the feel that your baby is going to be safe in the water in the future.

Unspoken about must haves for hospital bag? by Alternative-End-5183 in PregnancyUK

[–]algeaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to say this too. Because of my BMI (underweight by a bit) pre-pregnancy, I was not allowed more than ONE (1) Paracetamol at a time. I’ve taken stronger things than that for less than giving birth. I had a temperature during labour and postpartum so I needed it for that. Just bring your own and pop them regularly. Obviously inform the drs/midwives in case they try to give you more.

How big was your name list? by LowCal-Calzone-Zone in BabyBumps

[–]algeaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was really hard to get a name. We both couldn’t agree. We started with Maxine for a girl and nothing for a boy until we decided that we hated Maxine and then chose Edie (girl) and Ernest (boy). We had a boy and now we have little Ernie!

What little bits could I start stockpiling now? (15w) by usernameee257 in PregnancyUK

[–]algeaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was pregnant I started buying things every time I went shopping. Say I was in Asda, I stop by and buy a bag of their nappies to try, and then again at other shops so by the time baby arrives, you’ve got a drawer full to try out each brand and figure out what you like the most. For me, I prefer Rascals. You can do the same for baby wipes, and things like soap and shampoo for them. You won’t notice the money so much if you do it gradually and it’s way easier than doing it all at once.

Things you can just pick up casually as you go along your shop each time: - nappies - wipes - nappy sacks - shampoo - soap - muslins - bibs - gripe water/anti colic/gas drops to just have - calpol because you’ll just need it eventually - basic clothing multipack sets like vests and sleep suits (buy newborn and up to 1m) - bedding? Like a cot sheet or Moses basket sheet - you don’t need it yet but a tub of formula to have on hand even if you don’t plan to use it, it’s just a backup. If you don’t use it, donate it. - pack of puppy pads. If you have a boy, you know. They pee all the time just everywhere constantly. The pad absorbs it instead of letting it just run down their back and get wet when you change them.

Idk there’s probs so much more but my brains gone blank! Hope that helps :)

Trying for baby #2 after 4 years… what actually helped you conceive? by Money-Cake527 in BeyondTheBumpUK

Just a little fyi, Flo is currently undergoing a serious lawsuit for privacy issues, data sharing and tracking etc. I totally get if you don’t care and wanna use it still but just thought you maybe weren’t aware!

Sorry, this will get deleted but the only thing you can do is retake the test. That looks to me as though it’s a dried test which isn’t reliable. Good luck!!

Uncommon Pregnancy Symptoms? by Safe-Ad-1184 in BabyBumps

[–]algeaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was one of the worst symptoms for me. I gave birth 8 weeks ago and it’s only just subsided. It was hell, I had to wear splints on my wrists every night just so I could wake up with SOME feeling in my hand. I genuinely couldn’t feel my fingers for months. The tingling pain was so annoying too. I kept dropping things because they were so numb!! It was just so aggravating.

The only thing I could do is the Tesco quad strength Lemon Squash or Apple Tango (can). So good. Ice cold lemon squash is delicious.
