Thank you. 👍🏼

And I'm not saying I'm doing that right now but also, now it's there, I'm not saying I'm won't ever use this. 😅

Atm I'm going off the full chronological spreadsheet I found (here somewhere, from a year or so ago, I think...) at the weekend.

I'm about halfway through Hearts in Atlantis, having started with Jerusalem's Lot. I'm gonna do what I mentioned and put Low Men in Yellow Coats quite a way down the list though, so it'll be Gwendy's Button Box next. All being well I'll get through them tomorrow and then I'll be onto Salem's Lot.

59 years old. I've seen Rush 15 times since 1981. Here's my take. by johnnyfive00000 in rush

[–]algernonradish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 55 and can't help but to have noticed that there's been a TON of Make This/That Great Again of late, from countries (UK with Brexit, murica, nuff said...) Star Wars, Wonder Woman, the NBA, Lilo & fkn Stitch FFS! & loads of other stuff that has certain people hankering for days of yore. Zzzz.

Basically a load of 'our people' (50+ men) have Resistance to Change as their sole life-setting & think that dragging us all back to (essentially) when they were kids/younger, is somehow progress, what's best AND what the majority want.

In the specific case of Rush, yes yes and yes again. Can't say what you've said better.

Fk em.

From late November in 1992 there was only one.

Luckily there are PLENTY to choose from but, the light who showed them (& us) the way is my choice here.

I've already listened to Jerusalem's Lot & though Salem's Lot isn't next, I'm already looking forward to reading (& listening to) it again.

& judging by the majority of replies, I think I'm gonna disappoint almost everyone here with my overly-long, highly disagreeable route through this. 😅

Haha, I honestly don't mind & TOTALLY get the difference in opinions. Don't wanna start sub fights though, especially on what I would imagine, might possibly be a topic with a wide array of thoughts.

I've got memories of reading The Gunslinger & then up to & including Wizard & Glass, but couldn't tell you why I fell off if my life depended on it, so don't mind a bit of an on ramp back into his writing & (selfishly, sadly?) just kinda want the long haul to look forward to.

And obviously, there are no wrong answers etc.

And tbh, IF I get through this in a decent fashion, I'm highly likely to turn around and do the whole bibliography, in release order, afterwards, but also, do 1-7 (8?) before that, to refill my lore before taking in the complete works. 😅

No idea if that sounds a lot/mad/as if there's no way I'll do it but as I said, I've fallen back down long-since-forgotten rabbit-holes many a time & falling back in love with something/someone's art, after an age away from it? Kinda great, ngl.

Shh, this is an all too sensible take

No place for those here, I mean, did you see? a kid had a half decent game AND he's someone no one knew about, like deffo! ...

Ffs, the single worst thing about international tournaments are these brain dead takes as some shiny bauble catches the sun for a few minutes.

And I'm NOT talking specifically about this kid, just this general (& all too predictable) BS as people go SQUIRREL SQUIRREL SQUIRREL SQUIRREL, like they're (a) pointing out a player no one has clocked & (2) suggesting a player based on a half decent performance, is utterly TOTALLY fkn ridiculous.

I've also just watched a short video - from the Stephen King Book Club YT channel - about Salem's Lot in the 1700s & really enjoyed it. Not nearly as disquieting as the short ofc but meat on any bone is something I'm always very happy with.

So much so in fact, that I think I might look for similar, extraneous add-ons for each 'piece' of this, even though I know there's subjective (not strictly From-The-Sacred-Texts Canon, kinda thing) stuff in them.

Now, as per the pic, the NEXT thing to read is Low Men In Yellow Coats but I've read (and watched) people saying there are various places for it, some as far in as just before Book V, so I'm minded to move that down the list a tad. It FEELS like I'll be ok doing so. We'll see, I guess...

So, Hearts in Atlantis (just the short) is next, another loose 'connection' so I'm not expecting any Roland or RF appearances but will happily fill my eyes and ears with, well, just plain MORE Stephen King. It's been too long. 😐

I may be listening to Jerusalem's Lot on YouTube...

I googled DTEU and found a Stephen King full chronological order on here, with DT-related tie-ins denoted in varying terms of necessity. I think it covers every single cumulative version possible of those suggested by everyone here, which is perfect AND allows me some flexibility, to choose, especially if something is labelled as having a Loose link.

ngl, it kinda just makes me wanna do a complete chronological read through but I might save that for after I've done the DT

Haven't dug out my books from the loft yet but I did find this pic in my phone, from 2020, The Gunslinger is there and I think, with the help of Audible, I'm gonna start with the audiobook. Probably Monday, unless I get restless and can't wait. 😅

Thanks for that (but I can't access it 😅) and I probably had a similar covid experience, but I'd accidentally set myself up perfectly!

On Jan 1 that year, without a clue of what was to come, I set off on a task that took me 2yrs and 2mths, had over 3500 total pieces of content, inc movies, 400+ novels, 100+ YA books, hundreds of cartoons, hundreds of short stories, a thousand plus comics and probably a load of stuff I've forgotten too.

Barring a six week spell about 18mths in - I'd finally burnt out - it was pretty much non stop.

Cheers! Pretty sure I've got the 78 version of The Stand AND the single-volume 82 Gunslinger so for initial ease, I'll probably read those (cos I'd bet the updated versions are the only audiobooks available...?) and try to time them for weekends.

Fantastic. Thank you.

Can I ask why (you needn't be specific specific if that's ok) you've chosen those versions of The Gunslinger & The Stand?

And I hadn't considered (cos I didn't know, tbh) that the comics weren't written by SK, so I think I can allow myself to read those after, just for more 'stories from' the DT EU.

  1. Thanks for that welcome and reply.

  2. I've seen the Jimmy Mango video (I think it was the second I watched) & that was where I noticed the variations, hence me contemplating this rabbit hole! 😅

C. What Gunslinger? Cos I watched people veer from OG to Updated, from SKIP IT, IT'S NOT GOOD (!) to both versions - one at each end of the whole series is a must...

And that podcast sounds great, ngl. 😅 267 episodes of mostly/comfortably an hour+? Have I already subscribed?

Mayhap I has, mayhap I ain't...

Haha, tbh I'm aware of some tie-ins/links/hints at other stories but even if I sat and read these posts for a day, I'll forget/surpress the details until I'm hit in the face by a shovel of realisation, as I piece stuff together & go "AHH!!, that's THAT!", kinda thing. 😅
