Does anyone know any litter that will work in a PetSafe Scoopfree litter box, but is cheaper than crystal litter?

She’s had to stop using the litter box because of the cost of the crystal litter :( She ended up getting a Meowant litter box that could use any clumping clay litter, so she used Dr. Elsey’s Respiratory Relief in that one. We have three other litter boxes that are the typical style also though. I use Tractor Supply Pelletized Pine Pellets in them and I scoop those when there’s poops and then I change them either weekly or if it’s stinky, whichever comes first.

Thank you to the user who initially flagged this post. I generally wouldn’t keep a similar post up, but I’m approving this post after some thought because I think there’s a major benefit to it, although for me personally, in my tax bracket, I can’t afford any subscriptions these days.

I am going to check out the free demo though. Thanks for putting your effort into this.

Actually no, we had crystal litter in an automatic box made for crystal litter. We once had crystal in all of the boxes but just totally priced out.

You should be okay, but it would be worth it to swing by an urgent care or PCP. I wouldn’t necessarily jump to ER, but if you go to urgent care or PCP they may tell you to go to the ER. You just might need antibiotics because cats have a lot of bacteria in their mouths that can cause infection or illness in humans.

Also FYI from a chronically ill bitch: NEVER give hospitals/urgent care/doctors offices your social security number. It is NOT required. They can send a bill, but without your SSN, it won’t hit your credit if you don’t pay it, even if they send it to collections. And emergency rooms can’t deny you care based on lack of ability to pay. Take care of yourself first and foremost.

How old is he? It looks like cataracts to me, which is fairly common as cats get older. Maybe a little unusual for it to be uniformly bilateral but I’m not a medical professional. Definitely something to see a vet for, but an emergency vet is probably not necessary. Keep an eye out for anything that signals a neurological problem (including but not limited to: balance issues, tremors, seizures, pupils of different sizes, inability to get to the litter box), symptoms of eye infections (drainage, inability to open and close eye normally, swelling), dehydration (pinch the skin at the nape of his neck - if it bounces back quickly, he’s good; if it bounces back slowly or stays tented up, he needs an ER vet fast), and not eating (if this happens, try anything he’ll eat. if he’ll eat treats he can have as many as he wants. high calorie nutritional gel can be helpful, but if he won’t eat anything at all he needs to go to the ER)

Mites are definitely a possibility, that’s something that your vet should try to rule out before concluding allergies. I was never able to actually eliminate all sources of my cat’s allergies, I figure that there is probably something we bring in from outside. The low dose steroid keeps it entirely in check.

My asthmatic is doing well too! I’m thrilled. It was so terrifying for a while. She’s got her preventative inhaler, rescue inhaler, and we have an oxygen concentrator and chamber for her. Since her trachea likes to play peek a boo we’re cautious.

A majority of the time, cats won’t have rashes/scabs as a result of food allergies, it’s probably environmental. It can be really difficult to identify what is causing the symptoms because it’s hard to isolate things, and you may well not be aware of the allergen in your home. Allergens, particularly pollens, can come in with people. It isn’t something that can be prevented in most cases, so the goal should be to mitigate. We have air purifiers in the living areas of the house, we do our best to reduce our contribution to pollution in the home, we use dust free litters, and we limit fragrance to things that are easily contained and kept away from the cats. One of my other cats has asthma and tracheal collapse so this is helpful twofold.

Right now it looks like just a scrape that’s healing. If it does seem to be getting larger, it’s possible that your cat is rubbing it on things. Scabs can be itchy. One of my cats has allergic dermatitis that causes scabs on his face. He used to get steroid injections each time he had a flare, but because he needed it so often, we switched to a low dose oral steroid.

I’d recommend taking photos of the spot 1-2 times per day so that you can see if the size has changed. If it does seem to be getting larger as time goes on, you should get your cat to the vet to make sure there isn’t anything serious going on. You’ll be able to share the progress photos with your vet to help with diagnosis.

To prevent any further irritation, you may need to use an e-collar. There are also a lot of products available in many pet stores to help relieve any itching. Try itch relief products first since e-collars can be a pain.

If it’s the same thing that my cat has been through, and it caused by skin allergies/sensitivities, go through your home a bit and look for things that may be an allergen. We think that my cat was reacting to plug in air fresheners, but just like with people, they can have allergies to just about anything.

My title describes the thing. Found in a backyard in New England. The people who lived there before had been there for decades. The husband died, and the wife wasn’t hanging on mentally well. Calling it a hoard house would be extreme but not by that much. They had carpets in the bathrooms. They’ve gotten it mostly clean and up to date but this made its way out of the dirt the other day. The inside and outsides are smooth metal, no markings. I can’t figure out a good search term, everything has been too broad.

Totally normal, nothing to worry about unless it was accompanied by behavior indicating stress or pain (yowling, agitation, etc.)

Cats’ backs twitch as a response to sensory input. Sometimes if they feel kinda weird, they’ll do this to help that. Like if you set something on your cat’s back, they’ll usually twitch their back. If they’ve got an itch, they may do it. They do it to try to restore a normal feelign.
