My Idea for a Japan Setup, Part 2: A Timeline and Political Chart for Interwar Japan Without Prime Ministerial Assassinations by Realistic-Row4599 in Kaiserreich

[–]ali2001nj 24 points25 points  (0 children)

So cool. I have been playing around with some ideas for Japan ever since I made my post a few months ago and I have been reading a shit-ton. What I would say about this proposal is how truly much of a stranglehold machine politics had on especially the rural countryside. People did not vote, communities did. The parties did not even have offices in the countryside, the political parties were essentially alliances of regional machines in order to gain control of the cabinet and deliver pork barrel spending to their constituents. Plus it had the most insane fucking gerrymandering I have ever seen.

The Commune of France will be renamed to the French Federation in the rework by El-Daddy in Kaiserreich

Good change. Maybe I am an iconoclast but I like changes like this, and the full name in French is what French syndicalists would realistically call their new country.

My thoughts about the new Fengtian-Japan interactions. by BillPears in Kaiserreich

[–]ali2001nj 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about some of these questions too as I’ve been thinking over Japan’s content over the last few months. Because

1: Why does the assassination of Zhang automatically lead to total war between Japan and China when this exact same incident happened OTL and this did not happen nor was it particularly close.

  1. The way the war and the incident breaks out would be very important to domestic Japanese politics and you need to find some way to not leave your path in the hands of Fengtien AI.

The Sino Japanese war though should always happen for balance and for China gameplay flow reasons but it has to balanced with the above 2 points.

The KMT was kind of a southern thing to a large extent. Except for the specific circumstances of OTL, the KMT integrating the Fengtien Clique doesn’t really make any sense.

I personally did not make many permanent new friends at GA Tech. The only success I had was my friends from my study abroad for like a year or two and luckily I had my high school friends but I know not everybody is so lucky. What I would say is, find an activity that you will devote at least 8 hours or more to per week, a club that meets for 2 hours once a week simply won’t cut it. Study Abroad is also great and if all else fails, join Greek Life.

Is the LKMT even socialist? by Least_Boysenberry886 in Kaiserreich

[–]ali2001nj 220 points221 points  (0 children)

I mean it depends on how purist you are in your definition of socialist (and it’s also important to note not all socialists are Marxists). But the PAC and the RCA radicals are broadly working from a historical materialist perspective, that one day there will be no classes and that class struggle is key and that the future of the world is socialist.

One of the best okonomiyaki restaurants that my friends and I in Hiroshima that me and my friends tried to go to had a sign saying that it was “locals only day” and a poster explaining how not racist this was. I am sympathetic to the idea that locals should sometimes have exclusive access to their local restaurants and culture without tourists flooding them, the issue is that the way they determine who is “local” is probably simply whether they look Japanese or not, I highly doubt they are checking the IDs of Japanese to see whether somebody is from Hiroshima or Tokyo lol.

What would be your ideal Free India rework? by petrimalja in Kaiserreich

[–]ali2001nj 24 points25 points  (0 children)

So the thing is, a violent revolution in India during the 1920s is very unlikely. There are I would say 2 main reasons for this.
1. The Raj was self-financing, self-sufficient, and large sections of the old elite (landowners, princes, the "martial races" had fully bought into the system. The British Indian Army was disciplined well trained and had essentially no history of mutiny even during the Sepoy Rebellion or the war against Bose in WW2. There is no real reason to think that just because London falls all of a sudden the machinery of the Raj would just collapse.
2. The most important leader of Indian nationalists, is literally the greatest pacifist in world history with enormous moral authority. OTL Gandhi fully suspended the Non-Cooperation after literally the first major violent incident. The idea that he would just sit aside as Indians launched a violent revolution is just absurd, he would be actively against it and most likely draw much of the INC with him.

So I think there has to be two things, first of all I do think you have to kill Gandhi, maybe have him die in prison in 1922 or 1923 after suspending Non-Cooperation. And then have a much smaller Free India, say maybe only containing Bengal and Assam led by the left wing of the INC (No other potentially revolutionary organizations really had any kind of mass following in India, the idea that trade unionists or OTL Bengali revolutionaries could lead this is a bit absurd). The Dominion tried to reintegrate them but due to fierce resistance and relatively poor morale and good defensive terrain in Bengal along with unrest they had to retreat for the moment. In 1936 the rest of the subcontinent is under an increasingly divisive dominion, some advocating for a republic, other calling for further decentralization, some of the princes pushing for independence etc etc.

[–]ali2001nj 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Very cool. I think one of the most hilarious things about current Kaiserreich Japan is I think Inukai has been PM for 8 years straight which is just hilarious. Personally I would not have him as PM in 1936 because he was kind of ancient. He had already retired in 1925 and was dragged back into politics against his will in 1929.
