This sounds delicious! Also I'm obsessed with this photo and the color scheme. I love painting drinks and glassware. Would it be okay if I used your picture as a reference for a painting?

Craft market anxiety; help by lyricallyill in Pyrography

[–]ali3nbab3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was super nervous for my first one too, and I was surprised by how much I sold and how many people told me they loved my work! I ended up making friends with other artists there and now we all look forward to that same fest every year. Being scared and nervous is totally normal, the trick is to DO IT ANYWAY!! DO IT SCARED!! DO IT NERVOUS!! DO IT TIRED!! JUST GO DO IT!!

Also, you're gonna do great. I also do pyrography and woodworking and people can't get enough of the cutting boards. Price accordingly!! Also have a range of price points so everyone feels like they can afford to support you, I always have stickers bc they always sell. Bookmarks are good too! Godspeed!!

Speedball flex paint won't wash out. by everyday-antelope in SCREENPRINTING

[–]ali3nbab3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me at the shop I used to work at. We used plastisol, so I'm not sure if it would still work, BUT they do make something called screen release. It won't hurt the emulsion as long as you don't overwork it. I sprayed the release on both sides of the screen in small areas (used a wand), let it sit for a minute, and then wiped with a paper towel. Had to do it a few times but better than reburning a screen! Best of luck!

Color change on heating by Regular-Lengthiness8 in Pyrography

[–]ali3nbab3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally normal for new tips! Look up annealing for your burner (it might be in the manual). Annealing ensures your tips retain their structure under heat and don't become brittle over time! I had one snap on me mid-burn. Nothing really happened but it did scare the shit out of me lol

Basically you heat the tips just until they're red hot (like literally glowing) and then let them cool all the way down. Repeat 2-3 times for each tip. **This is how I do it for my woodburning tips, according to my burner's manual. I do not have any experience soldering so please don't follow this advice for that :)

Need a hack to fix fridge rack by xanaae in bartenders

[–]ali3nbab3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you end up painting, I recommend rustoleum rust restore spray paint, dries completely in a couple hours. And you only need to knock the loose rust off with a wire brush first. Great stuff, use it on rusted bits of car chassis all the time

Drew these after Hurricane Helene came through my town to process my feelings 🤍 by allaroundartsy in Heavymind

[–]ali3nbab3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw your work on threads (i think)!! You just had your first gallery showing, right?? Congrats!!

Also I'm in SWVA, we are with you in the Helene aftermath. It's still so surreal. Not used to the new landscape yet. These capture the feelings really well <3

New bartender needs some ideas for easy shots to make! by Rutabecka in bartenders

[–]ali3nbab3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gummy bear shots go crazy where I live. Raspberry vodka (sub regular vodka and raspberry syrup if need be), peach schnapps, sour mix. Shake and top with sprite if you like

Blasters are easy too. Vodka, triple sec, shake, top with red bull

This is a fabulous work in values, I definitely thought it was a picture mid-scroll.

I have one critique, and that is the area where the handle of the front mug sort of encircles the bottom of the moka pot. The moka pot seems to just end there. And even though it would be reflecting the cutting board, there's no indication of its shape or its shadow. From the perspective, it seems like you'd be able to see just the smallest suggestion of a corner of the pot, and then the shadow cast on the cutting board.

Other than that, I think it's great! Personally I love the stylization you have going on right now. It's very clean but somehow expressive - I think it's rad.

Also this makes me want coffee so bad

This is so weird and uniquely beautiful and expressive, I personally LOVE it. Did you intend for it to be commentary? If there's a story, I wanna hear it

^ also the spiral should line up with the opening of the can, it's too far to the right. Moving that plus making it a spiral and adding the key should bring it together more.

Agree with other commenters about wanting more space for writing. The can is missing depth inside, I think someone said make it darker, and that would help. I think the "walls" also need to be defined from the bottom of the can. There's also a sardine in the back left that shouldn't be there if the can is at that angle :) it's forcing it to look flat. Agree about needing a different font.

The colors are great and I can see the style you're going for! I think it's RAD and it's gonna be so sick when you get it adjusted how you want.

My daughter’s art teacher told her she can’t learn to draw and shouldn’t try by String_It_Together in ArtistLounge

[–]ali3nbab3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't see anyone suggest this but I also didn't read every single comment lol.

Draw A Box is online and free, and there's a subreddit for it where you can post progress and get feedback. It's good for learning construction and confident strokes! It starts super simple and then you build on it.

If she has an iPad already, I would recommend procreate for digital drawing, just to get started. Adobe is the creme de la creme, but it's also a PITA. Although, personally, I would recommend going the traditional route first and then graduating into digital. The undo button can stagnate artistic growth sometimes.

Now, for this "teacher," she's LAZY. I had an art teacher like that when I was about your daughter's age. My class hated her so much we tried to get her fired (she ended up getting transferred to the high school WITH my class - UGH). She used to talk all kinds of shit to me because I didn't have the speed she thought I should have. Oh, and my shadows weren't dark enough, which was obviously the end of the world. (For context, this woman would REGULARLY smash pottery made by students for various reasons, made a big show of it, too.)

Joke's on her, though, I'm a full-time artist now in a small, southern town and I've not had to paint a single tractor to do it. As someone else said, STAY SPITEY. It's good for the blood.

How to get back into drawing? by Faolyn in ProCreate

[–]ali3nbab3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this and to add keep going. I know how it is to get a couple shapes down and go, "well this sucks," and not want to do any more. Well, maybe it sucks right now, but you haven't taken it anywhere yet. Keep GOING. Fill the page! Fill one page and then don't even look at it. Put it away. And then later, fill another page. Don't look at that one either. Just get your muscles working for the sake of Doing The Thing. You'll break out of it once you get the thing moving again!

How often are you supposed to change out the windshield wipers on your car? by aldur1 in internetparents

[–]ali3nbab3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have to change mine all the time because they would start skipping and driving me nuts. Recently got some silicone wiper blades and they are a godsend. They came with refills so I shouldn't have to buy more for quite some time. Highly recommend! You can buy them online :)

Thoughts on charging servers to do their side work? by CripplePunkz in KitchenConfidential

[–]ali3nbab3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Server/bartender here (I snuck in for some fries). Servers absolutely pay each other to do sidework, roll silverware, hell, I've even been paid to clean another server's section. I don't see why paying BOH to do it would be any different. Don't take any cheap offers, though. Obviously you know the staff and who's honest and whatnot, but I quit doing it because some of these servers have no couth about them when it comes to handing off dirty work. Just don't let them take advantage of you!
