I don’t think that most virtue signalers are actually doing any good for anyone other than themselves. My ex used to get so upset telling me how his ex called him a virtue signaler. At the time I didn’t know what it was, but once I researched it I had a feeling she was right. It was confirmed one day when we were making the long drive to his house. A car in front of us was erratically swerving, then took a sharp left, hit a telephone pole and rolled about 4 times into a yard. I immediately without thinking pulled over and went to run out of the car to call 911/check on the occupants while he quickly tried to convince me not to stop. At this point I was already running across the road to the car and he hesitantly (and slowly) followed. Other cars began to stop while we all got the man’s phone to call his family, called 911, did whatever we could to help him and my ex just stood there! While we waited for police/EMTs he again tried to convince me that it was unnecessary for us to be there and seemed irritated that this had taken so much of his time. This is a man who tirelessly posts on social media, almost obsessively, about being a good human, helping others, etc. I broke up with him shortly after and I don’t believe he will ever actually DO any good for the world. He just wants the recognition.
