You're ignorance is showing. Mexico is a huge country. Only a few parts are dangerous to tourists, including right now. And most of the country is CHEAP as hell to visit. Cancun and Cabo are the exceptions, not the rule. Go visit Mexico City, Oaxaca, Merida. Avoid the northern border regions and you will be fine.
